UW athletic director Jen Cohen says Kelsey Plum's jersey will be the next to be retired, but Terry wants to know who is most likely to have theirs retired after her. Q13's Aaron Levine talks about injuries, Dee Gordon, the Opening Day starter debate, and all things Mariners. On SHOT! or NO SHOT!: If the Warriors/Kings game goes well, could the NBA announce a new Seattle team within four months? We play a clip of the video that's inspired the new Mariners mantra "good". It's a little cheesy, but simultaneously motivating.
It was announced today that deposits for future NHL season tickets in Seattle will start being taken next week. One thing is for sure, there's nothing like the experience of a live hockey game. The Seahawks can now put the franchise tag on Sheldon Richardson, but is he worth the money? Athletes taking political stances have gotten a lot of attention recently, and some people are upset about it, but everyone seems to forget that some athletes have been doing this for decades.
Fergie's National Anthem performance wasn't good, but there have been plenty of worse examples. Maybe it's just best for singers to stop trying to add their own flair to the anthem. We play back a press conference that Mike Hopkins held earlier today, and talk about what they Huskies need to do to keep their playoff hopes alive. Textimonials on the NHL coming to Seattle, players speaking out, and more.
We start the hour by covering the results of the polls Terry took on Twitter. First, we briefly discuss whether Lindsey Vonn will win the gold media tonight. Next, what will the Seahawks do with the 18th pick in the draft assuming they keep it? Odds are pretty high that they'll trade down though. Finally, which quarterback likely to go in the first round is going to be a bust? One of them is likely to not live up to expectations. Is there any chance LeBron comes to Seattle if we get an NBA team, and will Edwin Diaz get 30 saves this year? We answer these and more on SHOT! or NO SHOT! What are players and managers saying about the latest rule change? There's a debate going on about who should start for the M's on Opening Day. Should it be Felix, or Paxton?
Terry Blount is in today and all this week for the vacationing Softy. The MLB is going to try to speed up the game by cutting the number of trips made to the mound, but will it actually make that much of a difference? Ryan S Clark of the Tacoma News Tribune talks about Isaiah Thomas' number retirement, the impact Mike Hopkins has had, and all things Husky hoops. In the first of several Twitter polls, Terry asks what you are most looking forward to from the Winter Olympics? We discuss the results.
Inspired by yesterday's NBA All Star game, Terry asks Twitter which of the four major professional league's All Star games gives the best show. Spring Training is barely underway and the M's are already dealing with injuries. Could Tebow actually make the Major League? Textimonials inquire about Mike Zunino having another breakout year, and if Cliff and Kam will be back with the Hawks.
Terry asks Twitter to weigh in on what will most likely happen to Earl Thomas as the Seahawks prepare to make one of the key personnel decision of this off-season. In his final Twitter poll of the day, Terry asks what is more likely to happen in 2018: Husky basketball in the tournament, Husky football, the Seahawks, or the Mariners in their respective playoffs? On SHOT! or NO SHOT!, we explore the idea of the Huskies basketball team running the table in the regular season. With the Combine coming up, Terry looks at some of the players the Hawks might be interested in.
The fact is, most teams who win the Super Bowl our paying their quarterback less than 13 percent of the salary cap. If we're going to pay Russell Wilson what he's worth, we need the NFL to succeed. The better the league does, the more money it makes, and the higher the cap goes. If the cap increases enough, Wilson's huge salary won't have as big of an impact. The question still remains, do the Hawks have an elite quarterback? Is paying Russell Wilson what he's going to command worth it? The Huskies have now lost three in a row, and if they want to make the NCAA tournament, they need to step it up. This is where good coaching can play a major role.
With the time difference and so few medals won by the US so far, it's been a weird Olympics, but we've still enjoyed watching. Jon Wilner of The San Jose Mercury News tells us whether the Dawgs will make the NCAA Tournament, and who will win the Pac-12 in football in 2018. Textimonials respond to the first two hours of the show.
With all of this talk of changes coming to the Seahawks, and the fact that they aren't likely to be dominant again for awhile, will Pete Carroll be the coach of this team when they make it back to the playoffs? Ross Tucker decides whether Andrew Norwell would be the right pick-up by the Seahawks this off-season. Will the Hawks draft an offensive lineman in the first round? Find out on SHOT! or NO SHOT! On the eve of the UW retiring Isaiah Thomas' number, we replay an interview from December where he talks about being given the honor, and how playing for UW impacted him.
Attendance is down for both college and NFL football games this year. With how much technology has advanced, and how difficult it can be to get to a game, would you rather see a game in person or just stay home and watch? Tim Lincecum worked out for a bunch of teams today including the Mariners. Maybe the M's should bring him to Peoria. Yeah, he didn't do so great his last season, but there's no harm in seeing what he can do. There aren't many offensive linemen available in free agency this year, but the Hawks might only be one key piece away. It might be worth it to pay Andrew Norwell the huge price tag he's going to command.
PJ Carlesimo tells us whether he thinks Mike Hopkins plans to stay with the Huskies long-term, and if the Dawgs are a tournament team. SportsPressNW.com's Art Thiel wants to know what it would take for you to consider trading Russell Wilson. Textimonials weigh in on the thought of giving up the Hawks' quarterback.
If the Hawks can get back to drafting the way they did a few years ago, even close to as well, they can put the pieces they need around Russell Wilson and still afford to pay him. If there's any front office in football that can do it, it's this one. Bill Krueger tells us what the Mariners need to do to make the playoffs in 2018. Can the Mariners starting rotation make the top 5 in innings pitched? Can Kyle Seager make it to 40 home runs this year? We discuss on SHOT! or NO SHOT! Trading away Russell Wilson at this point would be like robbing Peter to pay Paul.
With the Bills making the playoffs, the Mariners now hold the record for the longest current playoff drought of any team in the four major professional sports. Sixteen years without making it to the playoffs; how did the team get here? Softy says maybe it's time to tear the whole thing apart and start from the ground up: new name, new colors, new roster, new farm system. Let's just create a whole new team and maybe that'll fix things. Noah Dickerson talks about deciding to remain a Husky, and what went wrong in the last two games against Oregon and Oregon State.
After our discussion with Joel Corry yesterday, it seems like the era of the Legion of Boom is probably just about over, and if that's true, maybe it is time to make some wholesale changes to the roster. Petros Papadakis talks about interviewing Tiger Woods, and Softy mocks him for making the interview about himself. Textimonials respond to Softy's plans to overhaul both the Seahawks and Mariners.
