It only took 300 episodes but I think we've finally hit our stride... and maybe not. This week we're unpacking two new films (Life of the Party & Upgrade), talking our favorite SDCC releases that have been announced so far, and diving in to the stage design of Jack White.
I can't count the number of times I've heard the phrase "print is dead" uttered. While some may view print as an outdated medium, today's guest views print as an option... and in his case, a preferable one. His love of print has guided his creative career and over a decade in, his resume reads like a top 5 list of the worlds best known publications. Currently serving as a Senior Art Director for Time Magazine, Martin Gee sat down with us to talk through his history in the industry, the perspective of working in a temporary medium, improv presentations and lego mech warriors. We can't say enough good about Martin and know you'll take something away from this conversation.
This week we are joined by Tom Whalen for another segment of Ten with Tom to discuss his new gallery opening at Gallery1988. 4x4: VERSUS (a two-man show by and about people who hate each other) is a collaboration of mean-spiritedness between Tom and Dave Perillo. New pieces are being dropped everyday so keep your eyes open. Additionally, this episode we talk Five Points Fest, czeetoys, Joshua Ranger coins, Making Fun: The Story of Funko, and more. Give it a listen!
Put your pens and styli down, take a step back from your task list and question your perspective. Jamal has decided to devote his life to mentoring a younger generation and giving them the skills they need to rise above their circumstances. These are kids that otherwise would be absorbed by the party culture and in many cases without modern skills to build a future on. It is absolutely important we each question how we can leverage our knowledge, experience, and strong footing to pull up those around us. Use what you know to give someone else a chance they might not have otherwise.
The box office numbers may be low but our energy is high. Except for Patrick... he's sick. This week we briefly recap Solo: A Star Wars Story and then discuss some of our most memorable film scores. We talk about crowd-funded projects Defunctland and Enchanters: Overlords and discuss amusement park attractions. Finally, we explain the concept of Blue Zones and how you can rearrange your space to be healthier.
Be bold enough to go after your purpose. Back in April, I had the opportunity to talk at length with Alicja about the relaunch of Manual Focus and its new direction. While she initially had a clear calling for the show, it took several years for her to embrace that higher purpose and confidently pursue it. Today we discuss the new iteration of Manual Focus and take a look at the incredible photography and paper illustration that is dominating her social feeds. It's a surprisingly calm and focused discussion given all the personality sitting around the table.
Crop Hot Seat 10: Forefathers
You know it's going to be a good episode whenever we're joined by the ever-neat Andrew Kolb. Even if Patrick doesn't fully understand it, today we're introduced to the Manga of One-Punch Man. Luke has been binge-watching the very British comedy Toast of London and insists we give it a listen. Andrew dips back into the number one bookmark in his browser - Kickstarter - and talks Streets of Steel. Finally, Patrick talks about creating genuine community and offers a word of caution for people trying too much too quickly.

Witty pun about playing with your food. We are truly blown away by Danielle's food & dimensional typography. Armed with only her hands, she brings perfection to a plate of food... even when it smells. We discuss her work with food + tools of the trade before sinking our teeth into guiding principles. There is so much good in this episode.
Crop Hot Seat 7: Joey Blake & Matt Espinosa
Grab a banana and heat up the cornballer because our favorite show is back! We prepare to say "Annyong" to season 5 or Arrested Development with a quick recap of the season 4 recut. We then announce the newest Paul Budnitz + Huck Gee collaboration and soon-to-be empire that is Superplastic. The Kickstarter kicks off today and it's already funded, so go grab your limited edition designer toys before it's gone. Additionally, Luke show's off Barker's Row while Patrick introduces the family to a new site called Timed Edition. It's something to check out for sure (and it's free).
