Our City Podcast

Fourth grade students at Badger Road Elementary School are excited to introduce their small town. North Pole is located near Fairbanks in the beautiful state of Alaska. Students researched, wrote, edited, recorded, and mixed their segments for the Our City Podcast. Enjoy learning about the town where it is Christmas all year!

Fifth grade students at St. Simons Elementary are pleased to introduce their unique city and surrounding coastal islands located in South Georgia. The students found the podcast to be quite a challenge since they go to school on St. Simons Island, but the actual city is Brunswick. With the help of their teacher, Mrs. Bennett, and their media specialist, Mrs. Marshall, they fine-tuned their research to include St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, and the city of Brunswick. They learned a lot, so enjoy their podcast and you'll discover why they love all of the Golden Isles!

Sixth grade students at Bellwood-Antis Middle School are delighted to introduce their hometown in the wonderful state of Pennsylvania. Students spent time researching their city's history and learning about the past in the area that they live in. Enjoy their episode and find out why these students love their home!

Fifth and sixth grade students at Notre Dame Catholic School are excited to introduce their lovely community located in Northeast Iowa. Students spent time researching their history and learning about the highlights of their town. They worked hard in Mrs. Jackson's technology class to show why they are proud of Cresco! Navarro Elementary fourth grade students from Ms. Aston, Mrs. Crouch, Mrs. Roberts, and Ms. Benavidez want to say, "Howdy from Bryan, Texas, where the good life is Texas style!” Segments include: History, Geography, Climate, Famous Landmarks, Sports, and Fun Facts.

Third graders at Heritage Elementary School are thrilled to tell you what is so wonderful about living in their town, Wake Forest, North Carolina. This episode is one way they are celebrating Wake Forest’s 100th birthday in 2009. Students asked their families and neighbors what was so special about living here. Please listen to their episode to learn why they think Wake Forest is so welcoming.

This episode is all about the city of Louisville, Kentucky and is brought to you by middle school students of the SEEK class of the Archdiocese of Louisville School District. The SEEK program is a group of advanced placement students within the school district who are able to participate in a variety of in-school programs on different topics. For this SEEK class, students in grades 5-7 share information about their hometown. The teacher of this SEEK class is Denise O'Brien, teacher at Saint Mary Academy. Enjoy learning all about this wonderful city!

Year 6 pupils at Wilbury Junior School in England are proud to present their episode all about Letchworth Garden City in Hertfordshire. Lots of planning and research went into this episode which tells you all about this city, which was England's first "Garden City." Pupils found information on the Internet, from the local museum, and from books. They hope you enjoy this podcast!

The students in Mrs. Hamilton's seventh grade class at Spring Mills Middle School invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy their episode about their hometown, Martinsburg, West Virginia. Located in the Eastern Panhandle, Martinsburg is close to many large cities and historical sites. They are excited to share all that they learned about their city!

Anna and Asha from Schiller High School in Berlin have lots to share about their European city. The two seventh-grade girls have even composed and sung songs for their episode!

Third graders at Leon Sheffield Elementary School recently finished an International Baccalaureate study of Communities. As an ending activity some students volunteered to stay after school to learn more about their city and create this episode. They researched the city using the Internet and wrote their own scripts for the podcast. They were helped by a third grade teacher, Mrs. Carol Davis, and a fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Vicki Williams.

Grade 5 students in Ms. Kenon's class from David Lloyd George Elementary researched and explored their city to put this episode together. They learned a ton about their city in the process and are very proud to share their city with everyone. Hope you enjoy!

Mrs. Marybeth Owens’ first grade students at Holly Heights Elementary School enjoyed creating this podcast with the help of Mrs. Carmelita Graham, our district’s technology trainer. This project-based learning experience included a classroom visit from Mrs. Mimi Peterson, a member of Millville’s historical society, classroom discussions about landmarks in the city and the history of the city, and student visits to some of the city’s landmarks with their parents. Each student chose the segment that they would be interested in talking about in this episode. The students also did research at home with their parents and brought back to school artifacts, pictures, and documents that would help the class prepare to create this podcast. They hope that you enjoy listening as much as the they enjoyed creating the episode!

The seventh grade students in the Multi-Media Applications class at Lincoln Park Middle School, along with their teacher/media specialist Ms. Noble, are excited to introduce you to lovely Lincoln Park, Michigan. Located south of Detroit, Lincoln Park is a fun place to live and they hope you enjoy learning about their hometown!

The fifth grade class at Sacred Heart Catholic School has created an episode showcasing all that Waterloo, Iowa has to offer. With the assistance of their homeroom teacher, Mrs. Dee Berry, and their technology coordinator, Mrs. Jodi Bauler, students took their own pictures, researched information, and recorded their episode on GarageBand. They hope you enjoy learning more about Waterloo and visit soon!
