Fifth grade students at St. Simons Elementary are pleased to introduce their unique city and surrounding coastal islands located in South Georgia. The students found the podcast to be quite a challenge since they go to school on St. Simons Island, but the actual city is Brunswick. With the help of their teacher, Mrs. Bennett, and their media specialist, Mrs. Marshall, they fine-tuned their research to include St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, and the city of Brunswick. They learned a lot, so enjoy their podcast and you'll discover why they love all of the Golden Isles!

Third graders at Leon Sheffield Elementary School recently finished an International Baccalaureate study of Communities. As an ending activity some students volunteered to stay after school to learn more about their city and create this episode. They researched the city using the Internet and wrote their own scripts for the podcast. They were helped by a third grade teacher, Mrs. Carol Davis, and a fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Vicki Williams.

Mrs. Marybeth Owens’ first grade students at Holly Heights Elementary School enjoyed creating this podcast with the help of Mrs. Carmelita Graham, our district’s technology trainer. This project-based learning experience included a classroom visit from Mrs. Mimi Peterson, a member of Millville’s historical society, classroom discussions about landmarks in the city and the history of the city, and student visits to some of the city’s landmarks with their parents. Each student chose the segment that they would be interested in talking about in this episode. The students also did research at home with their parents and brought back to school artifacts, pictures, and documents that would help the class prepare to create this podcast. They hope that you enjoy listening as much as the they enjoyed creating the episode!

With the assistance of their homeroom teacher, Mrs. Dee Berry, and their technology coordinator, Mrs. Jodi Bauler, students took their own pictures, researched information, and recorded their episode on GarageBand.
