NiP’s CEO would sign a VAC banned player | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:04:42

The discussion around bans for cheating or match fixing, and the punishments for pro players that come with them has been reaching a peak in recent months. In the professional scene a VAC ban has almost always meant the end of your career. Valve doesn’t allow VAC-banned players to compete in the Majors and pretty much every other big tournament organiser followed suit on those rules. That is until ESL decided to make a change. A few weeks back they downgraded the punishment from a lifetime ban to a two-year ban, meaning some big names could return to competitions such as the ESL Pro League, the Intel Extreme Masters and ESL One events.

When you look at the list of teams competing at a LAN it is often easy to point out the key teams that are missing. This becomes especially true if there are some relatively unknown teams in the mix. But for the StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 3 finals – which will henceforth be known as StarLadder for obvious reasons – it is difficult to think of a way to make the team list even more exciting. Almost all of the big names are here, with Astralis, Virtus Pro, FaZe, SK and more taking part, alongside the first LAN outing of the new G2 roster and a some of China’s best.

How Valve’s coaching rules have impacted two of America’s best teams | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:06:18

Last year Valve rocked the competitive Counter-Strike world by severely restricting what coaches are allowed to do at LAN events. Previously some teams were using their coach as a sixth player, getting them to make the in game calls, and point out anything the players may have missed. This allowed players to purely focus on the mechanical side of the game, as the coach could speak to them at all times, adjusting tactics on the fly and giving them more information than they could ever need. This created a scene where teams with top coaches were rising to the top, whereas those that gave their coaches a lesser role started to loose ground fairly quickly.
