The Chelsea Fancast Archive: "Three nil and we ****** it up! with Special Guest Mickey Thomas | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:02:42

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past. This week's episode is Chelsea FanCast #191 which features a guest appearance on the show by former Chelsea player and cult hero, Mickey Thomas. The show was originally recorded on 8th February 2012, a day after a frustrating 3-3 draw against Man Utd. Mickey Thomas is a much loved former Chelsea player in spite of his relatively short time at the club, but his bubbly and cheeky personality marked him out as one of the great characters of the game in the 1980's. He also scored some important goals for Chelsea put in some great performances in John Neal's side which are remembered fondly to this day. Chidge and the boys are joined by very special guest Chelsea cult hero Mickey Thomas to discuss the 3-3 draw v the Mancs and Mickey’s Chelsea career and thoughts on the modern game. After a frozen afternoon at the Bridge, the Chelsea FanCast report back on how Chelsea managed to find themselves 3-0 up, only to squander the chance for 3 points and end up drawing 3-3. But due credit must go to Howard Webb for evening things up!! While the boys are gutted to see a 3-0 lead disappear, they are encouraged by the signs of life in AVB’s ‘project’ when considering the absentees from the team. Chelsea cult hero from John Neal’s mid-80’s team, Mickey Thomas, is the special guest this week and is full of stories about his time at the club, playing with Joey Jones; Pat Nevin; Kerry Dixon and the 4-4 at Sheffield Wednesday, and his relationship with the Chelsea faithful. He also airs some very interesting views on the modern game about pressure; Fernando Torres; John Terry; and money! Mickey has had a tough time recently while he battles cancer. This has impacted his ability to earn a living. If you wish to help Mickey in his battle you can donate to his Go Fund Me page here. Get his book here: Kickups, Hiccups, Lockups!  Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 12/07/19 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:49:32

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio – the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Jake Watson, Stamford Chidge and Dean Mears. With Frank Lampard's first game in charge against Bohemian's last week, the boys ask what has he learnt and who caught his eye? Do we take pre-season too seriously and is the Club ripping the fans off? Chelsea draw 1-1 v Bohemians in Lampard’s 1st match in charge with a mix of youngsters & loan returnees. Who caught the eye? What systems is Frank Lampard's coaching team using? What, if anything, will Lampard have learned and is it too early to see who might make it in to the first team squad and who won’t? With pre-season meltdown already in full swing, do the media and the fans take it too seriously? Is pre-season predominantly about fitness rather than performances & results? Is it unfair on fans to pass these games off as competitive or is it a good opportunity for overseas fans to see the team play? Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron: Become a Patron! Chelsea are charging £1.99 per pre-season match to watch on the 5th stand app. Many fans paid but couldn’t watch and for many others the app crashed. All this while fans used to get all the pre-season games for their Chelsea TV subscription of £5.99 per month. While the Club issued an apology and a refund, are they missing the point? Should they be charging at all? Is it exploitative? Are the fans being increasingly treated as customers rather than supporters? In this weeks 'Legend of the week' sponsored by Classic Football Shirts, Dean chooses his boyhood hero Carlo Cudicini. But is he really a Chelsea legend? He is only the third Chelsea goalkeeper to win the Club's 'Player of the Year' in 2002 and arguably is the third best goalkeeper in the club's history, but the feeling remains that his Chelsea career is a case of what might have been, had Petr Cech not arrived and relegated Carlo to the bench. It should not be forgotten though, that Carlo in his Chelsea prime was one of the best 'keepers in the Premier League and arguably the world.  The Chelsea Fancast Archive - "All Very Bleak - Chelsea FanCast #192 with Neil Barnett" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:42:19

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past. This week's episode is Chelsea FanCast #192 which features the first guest appearance on the show of Neil 'Spy' Barnett. The show was originally recorded on 15th February 2012, a day after a miserable 2-0 defeat away to Everton in the dying embers of Andre Villas Boas' ill-feted tenure. Neil 'Spy' Barnett makes his first guest appearance on the Fancast and at the time was still the on-pitch announcer at Stamford Bridge and presenter on Chelsea TV. As well as throwing himself in to the show he discussed his book 'Perfect 10' on his favourite Chelsea players and regaled us with anecdotes of his time as on-pitch announcer, presenter at Chelsea TV and Chelsea supporter since 1959. Not a very good day at Everton would be an understatement, but hats off to the Chelsea Faithful who made the effort and got behind the team and the manager. Where do we start? No effort; no desire; no pace; no creativity; no pressing; poor defending and giving the ball away too easily. That’s 2 wins out of the last 10 games; 12 out of a possible 30 points. The worst points total at this stage of the season since 2000/01. It really is going from bad to worse isn’t it? Many Chelsea supporters are asking is AVB the right man for the job? Will Roman wield the axe? What if anything can we change? Hopefully we answer these tough questions on the show, aided and abetted by Neil ‘Spy’ Barnett, a man close to the Chelsea camp, who can bring some much needed perspective to proceedings having watched Chelsea since 1959. In among the insightful analysis we give out this week’s Match Awards - the ‘Fannies’ - for Man of the Match, Chant of the match, Guinness and Celery moments. In the second half of the show we talk to Neil about his book ‘Perfect 10’ and his often hilarious anecdotes from writing, editing and broadcasting for Chelsea for over 20 years, working closely with players and managers, and exchanging banter with home and away fans as the on-pitch announcer and presenting for Chelsea TV. But, we warn you. Neil can talk…a lot…and for a very long time!! For a shorter version read Neil’s book available here.  Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 05/07/19 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:49:19

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio – the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Jake Watson and Stamford Chidge are joined by special guest, Rick Glanvill, Chelsea's historian and author to round up this week's Chelsea news including the return of Frank Lampard and establish whether or not Chelsea has any history! Finally, after more '48 hours' than anyone can count, Frank Lampard has come home having been appointed as the next Chelsea manager (or Head Coach to be precise). What does Lampard’s appointment as manager mean to the supporters? Will the Club (or Roman to be precise) be patient? How will expectations be managed? How much of an issue is losing Hazard & the Transfer ban? Can Lampard really integrate the youth? Will the fans back him no matter what and just how long will he get? Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron: Become a Patron! With pre-season starting next week, what will be on Lampard's to do list? Does he need to make a decision on Kante’s role? How will he replace Hazard’s goals & creativity?Who stays; who goes and who comes back? Which youth players will he integrate and can he sign up Callum Hudson-Odoi? When you have Chelsea's official historian on the show, it would be remiss not to establish once and for all whether Chelsea does in fact have any history! Rick answers this as well as whether there are any historical equivalent’s to Lampard’s appointment? Rick busts some history myths around Chelsea; looks at some historical low and high points and some of the great players, managers and characters from Chelsea's rich history. In this weeks 'Legend of the week' sponsored by Classic Football Shirts, we choose Paul Canoville, a fitting choice as the most popular guest on the Chelsea FanCast and there is no one better to discuss Canners than Rick who wrote Paul's fantastic biography Black & Blue Canners may not have been the greatest Chelsea player of all time, but his legacy in paving the way for so many great black players in Chelsea's recent history makes him one of the most important players to have worn the Blue of Chelsea. The Paul Canoville Foundation is the official Charity partner of the Chelsea Fancast and information on the great work that Paul does can be found here.  The Chelsea Fancast Archive - "Chelsea FanCast v The Press" | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:17:26

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past. This week's episode is Chelsea FanCast #226 On this week’s Classic Chelsea FanCast we repeat the show originally recorded on 4th December 2012 where Stamford Chidge invited some of the leading Football Journalists to debate the press coverage of Chelsea FC and the Fans. Think the ASBO lovechild of ‘Question Time’ meets ‘Sunday Supplement’! ‘Stamford’ Chidge presented the show and assumed the 'David Dimbleby' role, and asked questions sent in by Chelsea fans from all over the world. Martin Lipton, Chief Football Writer at the Mirror; Neil Ashton, the Daily Mail’s Football News Correspondent; Rob Shepherd, football writer formerly at Today; the Daily Express and the News of the World and Dan Levene, Chelsea FC writer for the Fulham Chronicle were on the panel. There were many issues on the agenda at the time... Chelsea fans believed that both they and the club were getting unfair treatment from the press. Whilst elements of this were clearly justified, the intensity and volume of these attacks led us to believe that it was driven by an agenda. However, the show was not a hatchet job on the Press led by Chelsea attack dogs. During the show we discussed issues such as the relationship between the press, club, players and fans; the impact of social media; the negativity surrounding Chelsea; Terry-gate; Clattenburg-gate and Di Matteo & Benitez. Recorded in Putney Station in front of a live audience, it was a unique opportunity for Chelsea fans to explain how they feel and get a response from the Press as to what is really going on and why.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 28/06/2019 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:50:01

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio – the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Johnny Burrow and Stamford Chidge are joined by special guest, Tim Rolls, author of 'Diamonds, Dynamos and Devils'; former Chairman of the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust; writer for cfcuk and Chelsea regular since 1967 to discuss his new book: 'Stamford Bridge Is Falling Down'. Rounding up the latest Chelsea news, with Chelsea rumoured to be signing Kovacic, does it make sense in the light of the transfer ban? Will a new manager get the best out of the Croatian international and former Real Madrid player? Talking new managers, the wait for Frank Lampard's appointment to be made official seems interminable. If, as expected, an agreement is concluded next week, which back room staff will Lampard bring with him from Derby. Is he the right man at the right time for Chelsea? Will his appointment go a long way to healing the rift between the supporters and the club? And with many pundits in the media claiming that the supporters will turn on Frank if he does not deliver the success they have become used to and now expect, Tim and Chidge set matters straight and explain why Lampard will get unequivocal and wholehearted support from the match going fans no matter what happens. Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron: Become a Patron! Tim Rolls discusses his forthcoming book 'Stamford Bridge Is Falling Down' which explores the causes of the decline which saw Chelsea win the European Cup Winners Cup against Real Madrid in 1971 only to be relegated from Division One in 1975. Tim delves in to an era when the great 'Kings of the Kings Road' side started to break up with star players such as Peter Osgood and Alan Hudson being sold after falling out with manager Dave Sexton. With the club bankrupted by the ambitious redevelopment plans, no money was available to rebuild the team with quality players and the club's very future was threatened. Tim discussed the idea behind the book and explains how Chelsea went from Euro Cup winners to relegation in four years, highlighting the key characters and stories involved. But are there parallels with modern Chelsea? Tim is crowdfunding a hardback version of the book, including 24 photos, an index and a slip cover through Kickstarter. A single copy for the UK costs £25 (including p&p) - prices for one or two signed copies, and for different parts of the world, are listed at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/timrolls/hardback-of-stamford-bridge-is-falling-down Backers will also get their names listed in the book.  In this weeks 'Legend of the week' sponsored by Classic Football Shirts, we choose Peter Osgood, one of Chelsea's greatest players and a character central to Tim's book. Tim and Chidge recall some great memories of Ossie from his playing days and his time with Chelsea before his untimely death in 2006.  The Chelsea Fancast Archive - Paul Canoville "And now you're gonna believe us"? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:08:20

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past. Chelsea FanCast #157 On this week’s Classic Chelsea FanCast we repeat the show originally recorded on 5th May 2011 where Paul Canoville was our guest and tells us about his days as a player and fan! Chidge, the Boys and the Benches are joined by 1980’s Chelsea player Paul Canoville, and discuss his playing career including the infamous 4-4 draw against Sheffield Wednesday in 1985. The boys discuss a great weekend which saw the Chels come away with a great win against Spurs, only surpassed by seeing Arsenal doing us a favour and beating the Mancs. All that plus Darren Barker winning his fight to become the European Middleweight champion. What a weekend, and we’re still in it to win it – roll on next weekend! We have a good old natter about the win against Spurs where let’s face it we got a bit of luck from the ref and linesman for a change with the first goal and possibly the second. But Sp*rs fans, if you only manage to muster one shot on target in the whole match, albeit a great one, then you can hardly complain! As always we award our Man and Chant of the Match and Guinness and Celery moments from the games, in the ‘Fannies’. We also discuss our nomination for Best Club Podcast in the EPL Talk awards. But even more important than all of that, this week we are joined by a very very special guest in the form of Mr Paul Canoville, Chelsea’s first black player, hero of the infamous 4:4 draw against Sheffield Wednesday in 1985 and all round incredible bloke. We talk to Paul about his Chelsea career and memories as well as what he thinks about the current side and turning out for the Chelsea Old Boys, but not until he has faced the music in “60 Second Fan”! All wrapped up by three very ‘80’s flavoured terrace songs in “We’re out to Show the World the Way to Sing”!!!  The Chelsea FanCast Archive - Banter, Biased Opinion, Beer and Jason Cundy! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:54:04

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past. Chelsea FanCast #43 On this week’s Classic Chelsea FanCast we repeat the show originally recorded in September 2008 where Jason Cundy was our guest and tells us about his days as a player and fan! Chidge, Martin, Stu and ChelTel are joined by Chelsea Legend – Jason Cundy. Jason completes the longest ever “60 second fan” describing his best goal as the one he scored by leaping like a salmon (a tin of salmon!). We also cast our opinions on the Stoke and Pompey games, welcoming the tactical ability of Big Phil Scolari and Chelsea’s stylish play so far this season. Jason explains why Stevie Clarke had to leave Chelsea, whose hat was in the ring to replace him, and why Ray Wilkins was the ideal appointment. Chel Tel finally gets the inside story on why Jason left Chelsea for Sp*rs in 1992, without admitting that it was he who wrote “Bring Back Cundy!” on the East Stand wall. Jason gives us the low down on what it was like rising from the massed ranks of the Shed End as a supporter to being a fans favourite on the pitch. In “Tales from the Shed”, Chel Tel springs a surprise on Jason by producing a programme from the pre-season game against the mighty Somersham Town in 1987. After 21 years, Jason finally signs the programme! In “You’re on CFFC”, we hear from Chris Larwood who tells us about the struggle to watch Chelsea down under, aided by looking for the Celery nailed to a mates front door!! Banter, biased opinion, beer and Jason Cundy – what else could a true blue wish for??  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Chelsea Fancast Archive - The First Show! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:40:30

We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast's from the past. Tonight's show has not seen the light of day since it was recorded on 28th April 2008. It's the very first Chelsea FanCast hosted by Stamford Chidge, a few months after the shows had been presented by several well known Chelsea supporters (names with held to protect the innocent!). Chidge chose his local bar, Putney Station, to set up shop and he and the boys were to record the FanCast there for another 5 years before they went up town to the Sports Tonight Live studios. Joining Chidge on the first show were Martin Levy (yet to be named Dr Mart) and an old mate of Chidge's Sheridan Bird who is now an accomplished football broadcaster for Italian TV. The show was recorded at, as ever, an interesting time for Chelsea. Avram Grant was the manager having replaced Jose Mourinho in the autumn. Having just beaten Man Utd in the league that weekend to keep a slim chance of a Premier league title alive, he was now about to take Chelsea to Moscow for their first Champions' League final. But a second leg against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge had to be negotiated first...  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Johnny Burrow to discuss the latest on Chelsea's Transfer Ban; Eden Hazard's departure for Real Madrid and who should replace Maurizio Sarri if the Italian really is off to join Serie A giants Juventus. With the news breaking that Chelsea has appealed their FIFA transfer ban with CAS, we have Football.London's Chelsea correspondent, Oliver Harbord, on the line to explain what it all means. With Maurizio Sarri rumoured to be leaving Chelsea for Juventus, what's holding things up? Will he still go and is haggling with Juventus for £5 million compensation merely repeating last summer’s mistake of disrupting the preparations for next season? Would a quick exit and a quick hire be better for Chelsea? Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron: Become a Patron! If he does leave, who will replace Sarri and will it depend on the situation with the transfer ban? Allegri is rumoured to be interested and would signal a return to pragmatic winning at all costs football, but would Frank Lampard and Jody Morris be a more shrewd appointment if Chelsea had to resort to blooding the youth? With the news that the deal for Eden Hazard to leave Chelsea has been done with Real Madrid, has Marina Granovskaia played a blinder in getting £88 million which could rise to £130 million with add ons? And have Chelsea managed to persuade Callum Hudson-Odoi to commit to Chelsea on a 5-year deal, worth £100k per week? Finally, we discuss the extraordinary comments in the press from Alvaro Morata which seem to confirm most Chelsea supporter's opinion that he's just not cut out to be a Chelsea striker.  'One Team in London!' Chelsea FanCast #466 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:25:16

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Liam Twomey, ESPN's Chelsea correspondent for the last live Monday night show of the season as we look back at a victorious night in Baku to win the Europa Cup and reflect back at a season of high points and low points. On the show tonight we ask, what is it about Chelsea’s winning mentality – is winning trophies the club’s football identity? And what of Eden Hazard without whom winning trophies for the last 7 years may just have been a lot more difficult. By his own admission, almost certainly off to Real Madrid, we praise one of Chelsea’s greatest and say thank you and goodbye. With Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Arsenal in the final, did we finally see Sarriball in full effect? In part two, we discuss the irony of Sarri possibly earning a reprieve at Chelsea by finally winning a trophy only to walk out on the club with a tempting offer to join Juventus. And if he does go, who will replace him – already the potential list rumoured by the press goes from the sublime to the ridiculous. Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron: Become a Patron! In part three, we ask does beating Arsenal 4-1 in a European final make up for a difficult season on and off the pitch for Chelsea supporters? And we look back at the highs and lows of this season. In part four we have your emails to read out for the final time this season.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Johnny Burrow to discuss Chelsea's fantastic victory in the Europa League Cup Final against Arsenal last week. In beating Arsenal in the Europa League Cup final, Chelsea picked up their 16th trophy in 16 years, proving that they still have the 'Winning Mentality' and the club specialises in turning chaos in to trophies, but how does Chelsea do it time and time again? If the truth is to be told, very few of us expected such a superb performance by Chelsea in the destruction of Arsenal in the final, but were we finally witnessing Sarriball and what prompted the stunning second half turn around? While Chelsea showed pace, passing and ruthless finishing did Arsenal crumble at the first sign of trouble? Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron: Become a Patron! As we all hoped, Eden Hazard bowed out in a blaze of glory but with his post-match comments of “I think it’s goodbye” it really does look like he has played his last match for Chelsea. It's been a superb and trophy filled 7 years at the club, but what will his Chelsea legacy be? All's well that ends well for Maurizio Sarri and it was great to see him so clearly happy at finally picking up a winner's medal, but does this mean he has earned a reprieve at the club or will he be tempted to leave for Juventus? Finally, does winning a trophy make up for the off and on-pitch problems this season? All this plus calls from Ray, Wolf and Chidge getting rather angry with Marcus in the process! Chelsea winning trophies and Chidge shouting at people. Sounds like we've got our Chelsea FanCast back :) Chelsea FanCast is broadcast on Love Sport Radio every Friday from 7.00-9.00 pm. Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd, Joe Tweedie and making his FanCast debut, Dean Mears to preview Wednesday night's Europa League Cup Final between Chelsea and Arsenal. On the show tonight we ask, having heard his indignant press conference last week and heard the rumours about Juventus this week, is Sarri in or Sarri out? And if he is, is Frank Lampard really a viable alternative? In part two, we look ahead to the Europa League Cup final against Arsenal. Will Chelsea’s injury crisis cost us? What will the likely starting 11 be? Will it be a last hoorah for Eden Hazard? Will Jorginho be pivotal? How do we see it all going and just how important is winning the Europa Cup for Chelsea? Support the Chelsea FanCast and become a Patron: Become a Patron! In part three, we discuss Petr Cech being rumoured to become Sporting Director at Chelsea; and are Chelsea banned from making transfers or not – what’s happening with the appeal to CAS?
