Episode 53: Daisy Walker | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

The world of Arkham Horror: The Card game is more than simply smashing shoggoths in the face. Hidden in dark corners of the land, in musty libraries and secluded meeting halls are sects and secrets, esoterica to be rustled up by only the most determined of investigators. Where pages are to be thumbed and rites studied, there's no one better than Miskatonic's very own librarian, Daisy Walker. Join Peter and Frank in this episode as they discuss Daisy's strengths, weaknesses and playstyles in another investigator-specific episode.  Episode 52: Time Warp | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

Drawn to the Flame is delighted to be able to announce a forthcoming card from the Dim Carcosa mythos pack: Time Warp. Fantasy Flight Games has very kindly sent us the card to announce to you, our dear listeners, and we are absolutely bursting with excitement about this amazing, *weird* card. Tune in to listen to our reactions to it! Thanks again to FFG for being magnificent! This episode also contains a second section, in which Frank and Peter discuss Carcosa so far. The two sections are clearly separated. In the second, we talk about what's happened, what we feel doubt and conviction are doing, and where it all might end. What are patrons? Where is Carcosa? Who you callin' dim?  Episode 51: Esoteric Devices II | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

Join Peter and Frank for another Esoteric Devices episode, their occasional series which takes individual cards and explores how they disintegrate what we expect from Arkham Horror: The Card Game. In the first episode, it was Adaptable and Delve Too Deep under the microscope. This time it's a look at the 'mini quest' mechanic that's built into Strange Solution and Archaic Glyphs. How do they work and what do they mean for what we understand of the game? ALSO: Drawn to the Flame's first event is happening! Listen to the end of the episode to hear how you can get involved.  Amazing logo courtesy of this guy Listen on iTunes: right here Subscribe to our RSS via Feedburner: right here Direct download: right here Email us on drawntotheflamepodcast@gmail.com Twitter is here and Facebook is here.  Episode 50: Frank's First Look at Black Stars Rise | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

Join Frank for another first look, this time at the player cards of Black Stars Rise, the fifth mythos pack in the Path to Carcosa cycle. Will this be the Super Frank pack?! Listen to the mad echoes as Frank speaks to you trapped in the Labyrinth of Drills; hear how his voice cracks as battery ebbs from his device; marvel at the shoddily edited episode of wonder, brought to you from a makeshift studio, after his computer went completely kaputnik....  Episode 49: Think on your Feet III | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

Join Frank for the third Think on your Feet, in which Sefina Rousseau continues to carry out tasks set her by Dr Henry Armitage. Will she find the dread Necronomicon? Just what are these delays on the train line to Dunwich?? In the Think on your Feet series, I endeavour not to edit much at all. Sometimes I cut a bit of shuffling sounds or abbreviate some of my longer pauses (a boy's got to think!), and I normally aim to pare out the bus sounds (buses? in the middle of a museum??) but otherwise, it's uncut, unaltered and meant to feel like you're with me at the table. There are mistakes and misplays a-plenty, but hopefully some successes too.  Here's the deck before Miskatonic Museum: https://arkhamdb.com/deck/view/114354.   Here's the deck before Essex County Express: https://arkhamdb.com/deck/view/114378.  Scenario 3 begins at 2 minutes. Scenario 4 begins at almost exactly 41 minutes. Thank you to everyone who wrote in saying the first live play was enjoyable, or encouraging me to do more. It's been very touching and I'm super excited to share these further episodes with you!  Episode 48: Year One | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

Just a measly twelve months ago, Frank and Peter settled down to record their thoughts about weapons and allies in Arkham Horror: The Card Game. At that time, the core set and the Dunwich Legacy deluxe were the only cards out in the wild, and your two hosts of Drawn to the Flame were just learning the ropes. A year's passed! What a difference a year makes. Tune in for an end-of-term episode when Frank reflects on Arkham highlights over the year and Peter loses himself to his favourite topic: flavour text.  Amazing logo courtesy of this guy Listen on iTunes: right here Subscribe to our RSS via Feedburner: right here Direct download: right here Email us on drawntotheflamepodcast@gmail.com Twitter is here and Facebook is here.  Episode 47: Frank's First Look at The Pallid Mask | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

Join Frank for another first look, this time at the player cards of The Pallid Mask, the fourth mythos pack in the Path to Carcosa cycle. Rumour has it it's time to get skilful, and familiar cards grow ever more powerful... The card discussion itself starts around 2 minutes. Special guest arrives at 40 minutes.  Amazing logo courtesy of these guys Listen on iTunes: right here Subscribe to our RSS via Feedburner: right here Direct download: right here Email us on drawntotheflamepodcast@gmail.com Twitter is here and Facebook is here.  Episode 46: Sefina Rousseau | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

She is a fantastic painter, but found that her talents could be turned to more lucrative, less strictly legal art forms. In the course of her work, she discovered an entire new world, a place inside one of her paintings, and her experiences there have given her deep wells of resources and countless arcane insights. Now she arrives in Arkham, prepared for whatever events she may encounter there. This episode, join Peter and Frank for another investigator-focused episode all about Sefina Rousseau, the painter.   Amazing logo courtesy of this guy Listen on iTunes: right here Subscribe to our RSS via Feedburner: right here Direct download: right here Email us on drawntotheflamepodcast@gmail.com Twitter is here and Facebook is here.  Episode 45: Sketching Preposterously (aka Thinking about Card Draw) | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

In this episode, Peter and Frank look at card draw. Why is card draw a good thing - and is it an unqualifiedly good thing in a game where the safety of one's own deck is to be questioned? Why is card draw a cornerstone of card games, and how does that relate to Arkham Horror? How do the five factions draw cards, and does it add flavour to the character of the factions? This episode isn't quite a guide, but it's not so much a discussion as a survey, either. We hope you like it!  Episode 44: Think on your Feet II | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

Join Frank for the second Think on your Feet. After suggestions from listeners and a poll on Facebook, Sefina Rousseau has been chosen to take on the challenges of the Dunwich Legacy. As with Think on your Feet I, I've dived straight in and got to the meat of playing. Unlike Think on your Feet I, Sefina is a far more tricksy investigator to pilot than Roland, so there are certainly some pauses and challenges with flow and best lines. As before, it's meant to sound real - so you might pick up the sound of traffic, or tokens being shifted, or droplets of sweat dripping from my brow as I fret... Here's the level 0 version of the deck: https://arkhamdb.com/deck/view/88127. There are some odd choices there; I talk about (most of) them in the episode.  Here's the deck after scenario 1: https://arkhamdb.com/deck/view/100374.  Scenario 1 begins at 3 minutes. Scenario 2 begins at almost exactly 50 minutes. Thank you to everyone who wrote in saying the first live play was enjoyable, or encouraging me to do more.  Episode 43: Spending Experience | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

In this episode, Peter and Frank look into spending experience. They think about upgrading strategies, ways of approaching experience, looking at team composition and wrestle with a good answer for what's best to cut. They try to fill the episode with good examples, too, for which you can be the judge...  Episode 42: All Purple All The Time | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

In this episode, Peter and Frank participate in the #AllPurpleAllTheTime challenge, a gauntlet tossed at our feet by the good fellows of Arkham Chronicle. We're joined by the Mythos Busters and the team is rounded out by The Whisperer in Darkness, aka the Man from Leng, and it's a pretty simple mission: we each have to build a deck for a mystic investigator, and they'll make up an all purple investigative team! We drew... Akachi Onyele, so tune in as we discuss her strengths and weaknesses and build a deck for her. To see our final deck, take a look here: https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/4092/allpurpleallthetime-akachi-onyele-1.0.  Episode 41: Think on your Feet I | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

Join Frank for a new type of Drawn to the Flame episode: Think on your Feet, a live play series. In this episode, very much the pilot, he takes a Roland deck through a little campaign called... The Night of the Zealot. Will the zealot get enough sleep? What happens when morning breaks?  This is a new style of episode for Drawn to the Flame, and we'd be delighted to hear what you think of it. We wanted to dive straight in, so there isn't much introduction and Frank cracks on. We wanted it to sound real - as it is - so there's been minimal editing, mainly just shortening up long pauses and removing the sounds of traffic from outside. You can hear the token bag being shaken and cards being shuffled, and that's all intentional. It's a live play-through!  Frank chose a good stuff Roland deck he'd cooked up - no frills, no tricks - to try out for this style of episode. Here's the list: https://arkhamdb.com/deck/view/93235 You can click through that list to the future iterations, but maybe do that when you hear the musical cue.  What else? Time stamps: scenario 1 begins at 1 minute; scenario 2 begins at 25 minutes; scenario 3 begins at 52 minutes. ENJOY! Merry Christmas! Oh and if you like this sort of episode and have read this far... tell Frank whom he should play as next!  Episode 40: Frank's First Look at A Phantom of Truth | File Type: audio/mpeg3 | Duration: Unknown

Join Frank for another first look, this time at the player cards of A Phantom of Truth, the third mythos pack in the Path to Carcosa cycle. There is lots of oohing and ahhing, and some personal details from your boy Frank... but more importantly: what terror cards are out there? What are relics? And is salt on a slug really a cheap shot? The card discussion itself starts almost exactly at 3 minutes.  Amazing logo courtesy of these guys Listen on iTunes: right here Subscribe to our RSS via Feedburner: right here Direct download: right here Email us on drawntotheflamepodcast@gmail.com Twitter is here and Facebook is here.
