Welcome to Pokémon GO Podcast! Charles and Joe are holding down the fort and braving the Twitch chat without Brian to moderate. The eggstravaganza event has come to a close, but those eggs were pretty sweet. On its tail we have research, Mew, and new ways to get legendaries. Moltres is available through field research, so now Charles will be able to get his own team’s mascot. We take a look at a step by step guide to getting Mew and Charles is dreading the fact that he needs to evolve another Magikarp; he is still scarred from Magikarp watch 2017. At least he doesn’t need to catch a Snorlax. One thing that’s awesome is that these research quests actually have Charles interacting with gyms! 8-bit sprites are in the game for April Fools’ Day, but they will be gone shortly; though we’re hoping they remain an option we can toggle on/off. Latios and Latias have joined us, but they are only available in half the world at a time. They will rotate on May 8th at which time they will remain available until June 5th. Niantic is going to be hosting a HUGE event in Germany this summer, but will it be a Pokémon GO event? They are expecting 100,000 people to attend! Yonderkid provides a great infographic that shows how many trainers are required for each raid boss. Claydol is surprisingly tanky which makes it a more difficult raid boss. The last wave of EX raid passes went out with strange criteria due to a bug with the delivery system, so we’re uncertain what the criteria will be moving forward though we suspect it will return to something similar to what it was prior. The US Air Force is conducting Red Flag drills causing the western United States to have occasional spotty GPS. The guys have a new infographic detailing the most useful Pokémon in the current meta. Hint: Rayquaza is going to be amazing. Pokémon GO earned over $890 million in 2017; even though that’s a lot of money, it’s less than they made in the 6 months the game was out in 2016. That said, Pokémon GO will probably still be around for a long time. There’s a new trailer for the game and it’s pretty awesome; the hype is real. While Joe spends countless hours talking to wireless service providers to work out a deal so that he will be able to continue playing Pokémon GO come March. Pokémon GO is starting to do a monthly event with extra stardust, extra xp, longer lure modules, and special Pokémon. Kyogre aka “Shamutron” has become the newest raid boss to appear around the world. In general, you are going to want to fight him with grass and electric type Pokémon, but be weary of Shamutron’s that are sporting Blizzard as their charge move. We don’t know the full details yet, but The Pokémon Company has hinted at upcoming legendary events. Will we finally see Mew in the game? Will they merely repeat legendaries we’ve already seen? We agree that EX raids are a poorly designed mechanic and brainstorm some possible solutions. Reddit has decided that EX raids encourage behavior that is against the terms of service; it encourages people to share their accounts if they are unable to go to the EX raid themselves. The addition of generation 3 Pokémon and new moves getting added to the game have mixed up the top attackers a bit. As much as we’re loving Gyarados with Waterfall/Hydro Pump, he will get completely outclassed by Kyogre. Niantic has decided to stop supporting iOS devices that are unable to upgrade to iOS 11. Our own Joe Ard currently has an iPhone 5, so unless he gets a new phone by the end of February he won’t be able to play Pokémon GO anymore.
