 TED Tutorials – Android basics | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:21

*** Milestone - This is my One Hundredth Podcast *** It comes on many devices and is probably the most used OS in the world. It can be the OS on a phone, tablet, laptop, TV & set-top box, Auto or others mainly mobile devices. Google's Android open-source operating system is a derivative of Linux. You may have heard of this before or not. The current version of Android is 5.1.1 Lollipop released April 21 2015. The next version will be Android M. The official site for all Android. First question someone might have is Why Choose Android. First would be price as most devices are cheaper. Second most have removable parts like batteries or memory cards. Third is Features not found on other devices. Fourth is standard USB charging. Fifth its Linux and allows you to unlock or customize it. I will give you some of the Android Basics of Android 5 Lollipop for this tutorial. This would be my minimum standard version you should have on your device as it has better features, security and other things that are useful to have. Understanding Apps vs Widgets are applications or programs, but Apps are applications that need to be started from the screen by clicking an application icon whereas widgets are always running in the background. Because Widgets are always running they are always consuming resources and so you should be careful how many are running at once. There are tons of apps and you should remove the ones you really don't need as they use memory when installed. There are also some standard ones that come with Android and may not be able to be removed. Home Screen: - Screen Layout - Top left of the screen is the notifications area. Emails, system messages etc will display here. Top right shows system and status messages. - Notification Shade/Area - Displays small notification icons from various Apps. To open the notifications, swipe down from the top left corner of any screen. - System/Status Area - Shows the battery, Wi-Fi, time etc status. Swipe down from the top right you can get to the quick settings screen. - Favorites Bar or Tray - Sits above the Navigational bar on the bottom of your screen, and contains the Apps that you use most often. The central icon will take you to the All Apps screen. You can add/remove Apps by simply dragging them from/to the home screen. Navigation Bar: - Back Button – Opens the previous screen you were working in, even if it was in a different App. - Home Button - Opens the central Home screen. If you’re viewing a left or right Home screen. - Recent Apps - Opens a list of thumbnail images of Apps you’ve recently been using. To open an App, touch it. To remove a thumbnail from the list, swipe it left or right. - Adding Widgets and Apps to the Home Screen. To add an App/Widget to the a home screen go to the All Apps screen. Select either Apps or Widgets from the menu selection in the top left. Touch the App/widget icon and hold until a home screen appears in the background. Drag the icon to the desired location and let go. - Removing Widgets and Apps from the Home Screen. Touch and hold the App/Widget icon and the remove App sign appears on the top of the screen. Drag the App to the remove App sign and it will be removed. - Moving Apps Between Screens - Move an icon between screens by pressing and holding the icon then drag it left or right to the new screen and release. - Creating Folders - Lets you organize. You could create a folder for what you want and then place them in a folder. To create press and hold an icon and then drag it on top of another icon that you want in the same folder and then release.

TED Tutorials – Things on the Net | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:02

Things on the Net or surfing. These tips are all for a web browser on a PC but similar things can be done on a MAC. Downloading Files: Clicking on a hyperlink or button on a web page may download it automatically, then you get a dialog box asking you to save or maybe run or open. Sometimes it just opens within your browser instead of downloading. If you don't want this to happen then you can prevent it by right-clicking the link and select Save Target As, some browsers may be slightly different. You'll be able to choose the folder where the file is saved. Unless you have changed the location in the browser setting it will be C:\Users\(user-name)\Downloads folder. Downloading a file varies from site to site, it may require some trial and error. Tip: You can see downloaded files by clicking on Downloads in toolbar, this will allow you to go to the downloads folder on you computer where they are saved. Saving images: Sometimes you might want to save an image to your computer. To do this, right-click the image and select Save Picture As. Or you can highlight it and do a copy and past to a document. Copy: Highlight the Text, image or Link/URL first. To do this, move your cursor to the item you would like to copy. Left click on mouse and hold it down. While holding it down, drag your cursor over what you would like to copy. When you get it highlighted, lift your finger. Don't move the mouse with cursor inside highlighted area, right click. When you see the dialog pop-up with options, select Copy. Tip: Alternative method is to highlight what you want and then do a keyboard Ctrl C. Paste: Copied items are temporarily saved in your computer’s memory, so you can paste it in an email, a form, web page or document, for example. Place your mouse cursor exactly where you would like to paste. For a link, first open a new tab and place in the address bar. For other items have the document, email or form open and make sure your cursor is blinking on the spot you want it. Tip: Alternative method is to put cursor where you want item placed and then do a keyboard Ctrl V. Both Ctrl C & V will work sometimes when right clicking won't. Some pages have blocking code to stop someone from doing a copy or paste. You can also download and install a clipboard viewer or app for power users. The following is part of the web browser user interface. Scrolling: Sometimes a webpage is too long to fit on the screen then you need to scroll. Clicking the arrows on the right hand of the screen. Clicking and dragging the bar on the right hand of the screen. Rolling the scroll wheel. Clicking on the PgUp or PgDn keys on keyboard. Clicking End to go to bottom of page. Things on the Taskbar, toolbar, navigation bar, application toolbar or dock. Back and Forth arrows:

I did my testing of the Jobsite model they sent me for review using my Amazon Kindle Fire HDX table as I don't own a smartphone. They are definitely heavy duty with very nice braided cables and extra soft padding around the ears. This is where most around the ear ones fail. I have tried many others with this feature and they hurt your ears after a short time of wearing. Listening quality was excellent. Liked the EQ/Voice control switch on this model. Nice soft tips, I especially liked the cone shaped ones. The case they come in was definitely very rugged too. I give these earbuds 5 out of 5 with a prices ranging from $39.99 - $79.99 on Mizco Store. They also carry a excellent line of braided audio and USB cables, device cases, car / wall / solar chargers, handsfree bluetooth, USB power extenders besides these audio devices available on Amazon Store or Mizco links.
