Summary: Things on the Net or surfing. These tips are all for a web browser on a PC but similar things can be done on a MAC. Downloading Files: Clicking on a hyperlink or button on a web page may download it automatically, then you get a dialog box asking you to save or maybe run or open. Sometimes it just opens within your browser instead of downloading. If you don't want this to happen then you can prevent it by right-clicking the link and select Save Target As, some browsers may be slightly different. You'll be able to choose the folder where the file is saved. Unless you have changed the location in the browser setting it will be C:\Users\(user-name)\Downloads folder. Downloading a file varies from site to site, it may require some trial and error. Tip: You can see downloaded files by clicking on Downloads in toolbar, this will allow you to go to the downloads folder on you computer where they are saved. Saving images: Sometimes you might want to save an image to your computer. To do this, right-click the image and select Save Picture As. Or you can highlight it and do a copy and past to a document. Copy: Highlight the Text, image or Link/URL first. To do this, move your cursor to the item you would like to copy. Left click on mouse and hold it down. While holding it down, drag your cursor over what you would like to copy. When you get it highlighted, lift your finger. Don't move the mouse with cursor inside highlighted area, right click. When you see the dialog pop-up with options, select Copy. Tip: Alternative method is to highlight what you want and then do a keyboard Ctrl C. Paste: Copied items are temporarily saved in your computer’s memory, so you can paste it in an email, a form, web page or document, for example. Place your mouse cursor exactly where you would like to paste. For a link, first open a new tab and place in the address bar. For other items have the document, email or form open and make sure your cursor is blinking on the spot you want it. Tip: Alternative method is to put cursor where you want item placed and then do a keyboard Ctrl V. Both Ctrl C & V will work sometimes when right clicking won't. Some pages have blocking code to stop someone from doing a copy or paste. You can also download and install a clipboard viewer or app for power users. The following is part of the web browser user interface. Scrolling: Sometimes a webpage is too long to fit on the screen then you need to scroll.
