So You're In Seattle

Short is a funny thing to put before mentioning Walter Jones - he's a big man. We're the same height and I could easily hide behind this wall of muscle and stuff great for building a wall! It’s tough not to over do it when someone so kind and humble comes in, but it’s the tales we tell of times past that propel the future into the right direction - Walter Jones played an entire career in Seattle as a Seahawk with skills and hustle so strong he’s enshrined in the pro football hall of fame - such an important part of our sporting culture that he joins only two others in history to have his number retired by the organization. But legacy is a lifetime and so Walter is taking his time today to talk to us about a huge community event A Touch of Football benefiting the Crohns and Colitis Foundation just one of the awesome charitable things you’ll see him at around Seattle.

Walt is the newest host on 107.7 The End! While most of us here have only ever really pursued one career - radio - Walt took a break to do something that most kids from Macomb, IL, would ever dream of - touring the world in band! I met Hannah when following up with Brian Morris (ep 86) with a visit to ZakLabs - a creative workspace for cos-play. An array of humans were cutting, painting, forming, and laughing as they sculpted designs for an upcoming convention. Now, RenCon is just around the corner and Hannah came in to talk about her process for making a wild variety of costumes from Hiccup (How to Train Your Dragon) to Nova (StarCraft), learning everything from scratch, and what the world of cosplayers looks like for women. Everything I knew about Joe (J GRGRY) I learned from Twitter and one episode of Locals Only that he joined Steven Graham for at 1077 The End. Shirtless, covered in pink paint and makeup, he had my attention, but in a very specific feeling of intrigue. Joe is someone I wanted to be around, his music something that made me want to be even closer. This guy is a sweetheart but with a tale that feels as dark as the part of your heart that you don't share with anyone. 

He's the former host of the Offspeed Podcast and we've been going back and forth for a year until he's finally here now to do Our Dumb Podcast... only this is So, You're In Seattle... awkward. We dive into the world of insane baseball statistics and talk a lot about how hard it is to get on stage and make something of yourself in local comedy - something Casey is tackling at Tacoma Comedy Club!

From the ashes of bands like Girl on Fire we see the genesis of GOLDNWOLF a trio of musicians all from a shared background making new music in the darkness of the longest Seattle winter ever. Employing a different approach, these gentlemen are releasing the songs as their ready starting with just a solo single, "Lone Wolf". Understand how their previous successes and setbacks fueled them up for this new project shines light on what it's going to take for a band in Seattle to make another run of things.

Under the big-top tent at Marymoor Park, Cirque du Soleil creates a magical world that feels like you've been taken to space aboard an alien craft equal parts the future and Mexican past. It's 'Luzia' and it features a girl flying through the air that grew up running around Greenlake!

When you cross paths with someone who has lived a career that keeps that magical creative spark alive, it's important to take a moment to savor the experience. Brian makes his career as a photographer, but his passion is for designing costumes, props, and more for conventions (including one he helped start, Renton Comic Con). He hosts monthly building sessions out of his massive workshop in Renton, Zaklabs,  where fellow con lovers can assemble to work on their sweet costumes. This is an interesting dude who is just the sweetest!

We slumbered way down in the dark depths of Key Arena where a sea of hard working people, wires, and expensive equipment all have to come together to make four dudes (and a couple friends) look great on stage. There Gregr got to sit down with a dude who's toured the world playing music for decades: Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

An artist who works in pencil, he's Keegan Hall. While art should be left to stand as expression, when collaborations with guys like Kam Chancellor or Macklemore and Ryan Lewis show up, it’s time to take notice in what a person is capable of achieving and who they can move. He’s as humble in his delivery as he is able with graphite on paper.
