The special guest I have for you, is a creative woman. A young woman who like any of us has a dream to be independent, reliant upon herself, her husband and the land. This wonderful Guest is none other than Samantha Biggers. She is an amazing writer who has had many articles in various homesteading magazines. She is also the head writer for Backdoor Survival. They have a  vineyard on the steep mountainside, grow gourmet mushrooms and raise Shetland sheep on there own little piece of heaven.  Samantha and her husband have and continue to work hard on what they have. To shape it in a way to fit them and their desired lifestyle. I admire her for the ability to take and make her life the way she wants it. I still aspire to have a more self sufficient lifestyle. and Samantha is living proof that even thought it isnt easy, with determination, hard work, and persistence that it is possible. With understanding this strong and and independent woman, you have to better understand her background.  Prepping and Survival Mentality pt 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:58:00

What really drives a prepper and their motivations? I am not a big fan of fear driving anything that I do. However, there is a time for most beginner preppers that starts with fear and reaction. However, before lone you begin to pan out from all that worry of what could happen and you start to see the bigger picture.it In short, you begin to create your own mentality. It becomes your way of prioritizing things on the large list of preps needed. It becomes how you face each day and before long it becomes how you live your life. You see, what they don't tell you about prepping is that its like a symbiote. You might feel like you are in control at first but before long it changes you. If your lucky, prepping and self reliance will take you on the most incredible journey. There are many types of prepping and survival mental out there. You will find all kinds of kinds even in the prepping world. From lone wolves who look to face a SHTF scenario on their own to the stockpiling bug in mentality.

Influenza, Epipens and Falling through Ice | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:56:00

Infectious disease is of major concern in good times or bad, and the family medic must be able to identify some of the deadliest. Having just written a book on the subject, we’ve done our research on some of the worst illnesses that can occur even in countries with advanced medical systems. There are infections out there, however, that are often fatal and can’t be treated with antibiotics. These are usually viral in nature. Joe and Amy Alton discuss what you need to know about what could become the next pandemic. Cold and Flu season is usually something that occurs when it’s, well, cold, not so much from the actual loss of heat but from spending a lot of time inside with other people and breathing in their germs. But infections aren't the only risk from cold weather. In the winter, northern regions with lots of water features become vast fields of ice. Since the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, you may be tempted to cross that frozen lake rather than go around it. That’s fine if the ice is thick, but there’s a risk of falling through the ice. If so, you’ll be in extremely cold water (and extremely big trouble). Find out how to survive this life-threatening mishap. Plus, a question from Jack Spirko's Survival Podcast regarding the Epipen from a parent with a child that has had anaphylactic allergic reactions. Dr. Alton explains what the options are, whether expired epipens still work, and other things you might need to know in an emergency.

A Time To Reflect, A New Year Ahead of Us | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:57:00

With 2019 now upon us, we are now a new year, with new challenges and experiences waiting for us.  In order to plan ahead we do have to look back. Look at what we went through, what we experienced. How we can better plan for those situations. Or even look to see how well we actually handled them. So with a great year ahead of us. Let us reflect on the past to plan for the future. With some up and coming shows we are going to have a wonderful special guest but first to bring in the New year we will be doing a kids "Free-For-All". The children of A Family Affair will be giving their insight, as well as getting off the subject as most children do. But what I want from you, My listeners, is too challenge us. Come up with any questions or ideas you would love to hear these kids answer or talk about.  Remember that Prepping as a family involves everyone, even the littles. In an emergency situation everyone will have a role to play. That's right, lets see what these littles have to say on preppeing, and their prespective. My challenge to my listeners is to email, message, and ask them anything prepper. I know we all want to see how much they actually take in. Remember I have an email, facebook and I am  even in the mists of putting together a show specific Instagram.

If you have a family and you’re getting prepared for emergencies or disasters, this show will talk all about how you can get your kids involved, how to keep them entertained during an emergency or disaster and how to generally be prepared with kids. Come join in the live chat or give us a call and say hello!
