Blogging Diabetes Podcasts with Tony Rose show

Blogging Diabetes Podcasts with Tony Rose

Summary: I (Tony Rose) launched the Blogging Diabetes Podcast back in June 2011 after blogging about diabetes for 3+ years. The goal of the podcast is to share my personal experiences about what it's really like to live with type 1 diabetes every day. I'm not a doctor or a medical professional at all, just an average guy who has been living with type 1 diabetes since 1998. @blogdiabetes on twitter

BDP 076 | Update and Juicing with Diabetes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:41

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I catch up on what's been going on the past few month since the last podcast.  It's been tough to go through each week without posting new podcast episodes especially when I enjoy listening to many others. There are some various topics I cover in this week's episode including my most recent update about juicing with diabetes. I may not be able to get back to a regular schedule for a bit, but plan to do so as soon as possible. “Learning about juicing with diabetes on the Blogging Diabetes Podcast” Click to Tweet This   It was so nice to be back behind the mic again and hope to get a few more in before I move to AZ.  I hope you enjoy the episode and have a great weekend!  BDP 075 | Interview with Bill Woods from MyGlu | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 56:31

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I catch up with Bill Woods, the Community Manager for Glu.  I've known Bill for a while now back when I first started this site online. I remember watching many of Bill's videos and posts on 1HappyDiabetic. Bill's positive energy and great videos are pretty well known online and for a good reason.  I've always wondered if Bill was as high energy and upbeat outside of his videos or vlogs.  We cover that and much, much more in this episode. “Listening to Bill (@GluBill) from MyGlu on the Blogging Diabetes Podcast #75” Click to Tweet This   I loved talking with Bill and catching up. In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I catch up with Mike Hoskins, a fellow long-time type 1 and legit journalist over at Diabetes Mine.  Mike's background in journalism and life experiences with diabetes make him a perfect addition to Amy's team of writers. Mike and I talk through a lot of different topics related to diabetes and the online community. I guess it's quite ironic that I had a low while out and about right after our conversation and was thinking of what we talked about. UPDATE: I received a copy of Gary Scheiner's book on Tuesday and definitely plan to get right into it. “Listening to Mike Hoskins on the Blogging Diabetes Podcast” Click to Tweet This I love having the guests on and it makes my monologues seem that much less interesting. In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I catch up on a few things that I've wanted to talk about since there is no guest interview this week. I got a question from a listener about heart rate monitors that I discuss about the one I picked. Also in this episode is a good amount of time spent on documentaries especially King Corn that I review. “Listening to Tony's Blogging Diabetes podcast” Click to Tweet This There are a few items from the news and other podcasts that I plug in this episode if you are interested in the topics. In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I talk with Mari Ruddy, the founder and Director of Team WILD and founder of the Red Rider program. I know I say this a lot, but I could have talked with Mari for hours. Over the last year you've probably heard me talk about how much I love riding my bike and how great it is for my blood sugars. Talking with Mari has me pumped up and motivated for my upcoming Tour de Cure ride in May where I'll be doing the 60 mile course. “Listening to @mariruddy talk about Red Riders and Team WILD” Click to Tweet This It is so much fun talking with the guests I'm having on the show and I look forward to each week.  There are things I want to catch up on, but they're going to have to wait when I've got rockstars like Mari queued up.  BDP 071 | Interview of Eric and Lathe from Carb Loaded (Upcoming Documentary) with Video and More | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:15

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I do my first video podcast after 71 episodes with Eric and Lathe, co-creators of the upcoming documentary Carb Loaded. It was so much fun sitting down with these two guys to talk carbs, documentaries, diabetes and much more.  Check out their site and see these two in action in the video updates. I also enjoyed doing the video part of the podcast and want to hear from you if you prefer to see the guests or just want the audio. “Listen/Watch podcast about @carb_loaded and can't wait for the documentary” Click to Tweet This This podcast has given me the opportunity to talk with amazing people like Lathe and Eric and bring their stories and info to you. I love this podcast and I love bringing it to you each week! Also, in this episode I give a highly rated review of Scott Benner's book that's coming out on April 2nd. It made me laugh out loud (literally) on numerous occasions.  The chapter on marriage was off the charts and worth the price of the book two-fold. In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I spend around 45 minutes talking to a knowledge leader in the diabetes/endocrinology world about old diabetes, new technology, biochemistry and the future of a cure.  At one point early on in the show Dr. Bernstein blew my mind with what he was predicting/seeing for the future in diabetes management. “You tell me what you want to do and I'll tell you how to do it" Dr. Bernstein Click to Tweet This Check out the notes section below to get links to many of the studies and concepts that Dr. Bernstein and I talked about in this episode. In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I sit down with Ginger Vieira to talk about emotional eating with diabetes.  This is her second book and a great read about something I never really thought about before.  I know I do things related to food because of diabetes, but when you break it down it's really eye opening.  The book has awesome excerpts from folks in the diabetes community that I have a lot of respect for like Ginger. Also, stuck in at the end is a little clarification about a comment I made in episode 68 as well as a few updates about my training. “Learning about Emotional Eating with @gingervieira on the @blogdiabetes podcast” Click to Tweet This What I love about this podcast is being able to talk with guests who I may not have ever known prior to having this show.  BDP 068 | New Years, Q&A and Why We Get Fat | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:32

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I catch up on a bunch of various topics and questions that were submitted over the past few weeks. I hope everyone had a great New Year's! Also in this episode is a bit about 2012 and my outlook for 2013. One epiphany I had is around what to do if my pump dies in the near future. I've talked about this in a bunch of episodes and on the blog over the years and I think I've finally come to a conclusion on what is next for me. “Finally Tony (@blogdiabetes) tells us what's next when his insulin pump dies” Click to Tweet This I love getting questions submitted because it tells me what listeners are interested in and how I may be able to provide insight to help people directly.  There were a few great questions that I talk about and how difficult a seemingly easy question can be to answer. Finally, I talk a bit about the book I've just finished, what I'm reading now and what may be next.  I hope you enjoy the episode and have a great weekend!  BDP 067 | Aaron Snyder Interview on Diet, Exercise and Mindset Revolution | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:05

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes podcast I interview Aaron Snyder.  In the show we talk about all of the things that I'm super interested in: health, exercise and diabetes.  I told Aaron after the call that I could literally talk for hours about these things. You will be able to quickly tell how knowledgeable Aaron is about diabetes and how he's changed his life to overcome type 2 diabetes. “Learning about diet, exercise and ways to tackle diabetes with Aaron Synder” Click to Tweet This Right after this interview (last week) I ordered Aaron's book for my Kindle and started it that night.  Simply put, it's legit! I like the way Aaron tells the information and stories in the book so that anyone can understand the content, which can be pretty technical at times.  More to come on the book in an upcoming episode. I also get into a bit of where I find my organic free range, no soy, no GMO eggs that are delicious. Hint: you can't get them at Trader Joe's.  The bulk of this podcast covers my review of the Dexcom G4 continuous glucose monitor after using it for a few weeks. “Listening to Tony's (@blogdiabetes) review of the Dexcom G4” Click to Tweet This There are a bunch of items in the news or in podcasts that I listen to that I discuss in this episode. In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I get to talk with Mike Lawson about a lot of different topics such as: diabetes, his podcast, Mike's role at the Diabetes Hands Foundation, mirror mantras and his involvement in many different areas of diabetes advocacy. I think Mike's co-hosting the Sweet Talk podcast a few years back is where I first was introduced to him. We have yet to meet in person, but have exchanged messages for around four years now.  BDP 064 | Just Diagnosed with Diabetes – Start Here | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:17

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I cover one of the hardest questions I get asked.  Since I've been asked many times I thought it would be a good opportunity to spend some time answering it so I can point people in the future to this podcast to start. Question: ____ was just diagnosed with diabetes.  What resources or information could you give to him/her? There are SO MANY great websites, blogs and resources for those with diabetes.  It was difficult to name a short list and I left off many folks that honestly should be in the list.  One of the big issues I imagine with those diagnosed with diabetes now or in the future is information overload. I tried to keep the list short, but if anyone wants a specific resource that is much narrower in scope, please contact me.  Or, if you want more great people to talk to about diabetes just let me know and I can add to this short list. I apologize to the hundreds of people that I didn't list. This podcast is really intended to be a good starter resource about those newly diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. “Great resource for kids or adults just diagnosed with diabetes” Click to Tweet This Please add to my list or add any additional thoughts for those newly diagnosed in the comments below.  This podcast could really have easily been 3 hours long.  Feel free to pass this along if you get asked where to start with someone newly diagnosed.  BDP 063 | Interview with Kim Stebbings of GlycoMark, Products and Dexcom G4 Reviews | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:08:41

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I cram a ton of information about a few different topics into one show.  Since I'll be off next week for Thanksgiving and also have an interview with Kim Stebbings there is a ton packed into this one. This could have easily been divided into two different shows and might have flowed better. I talk about a few different products and one that I rely on often for my diabetes supplies. I also do a quick review of the InBars and talk about a new cookbook I got that's geared towards gluten-free kids and adult meals. One important point I make is a new documentary that Ernie pointed me to (thank you Ernie) that is absolutely amazing. It's great for the average person and x10 for those of us living with diabetes and struggling with BGs, food and weight.  BDP 062 | 5 Reasons For My A1c Results and Paleo Diet Update | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:17

In this episode of the Blogging Diabetes Podcast I talk about my thoughts on my last two A1c results and what it made me think about. Also mixed in is an update on Symlin and how I don't want to take on too much at once and let things get out of control.  From what I've heard about Symlin, combining it with a Paleo diet may not be the best choice at least to start. I also get into a quick update about my Paleo diet and work with Kelly (dietician) from a few episodes ago. Best of all, I list my top 5 reasons why my last two A1c tests came back the way they did and why they aren't lower or higher. “This week's podcast from Tony (@blogdiabetes) has me thinking about WHY my A1c is what it is” Click to Tweet This This week's episode ends with a few items in the news and a shout out for the Big Blue Test and World Diabetes Day.
