Hope of Nations is one of the CRI resources for the month of August. Questions and Answers: Can you explain Matthew 24:28, where the gathering vultures are mentioned? Could you help me understand the essentials of salvation? What are your thoughts on the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) movement? How did the name J-E-S-U-S come to be the name included in many Bibles, although the original name is Yeshua? Have you seen A Lamp in the Dark: The Untold History of the Bible, and if so, what are your thoughts on this documentary? Where do dinosaurs fit into the Creation narrative?

Hope of Nations, Mike Pence, Anne Graham Lotz, and Q&A | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:55:00

Hank unpacks one of CRI’s resources for August: Hope of Nations: Standing Strong in a Post-Truth, Post-Christian World by John S. Dickerson. If you want to know what’s going on in the world today, read this book. Also, Hank discusses the article, “Mike Pence, Holy Terror: Are you sure you want to get rid of Donald Trump?” by Frank Bruni, New York Times Opinion Columnist, in which Mike Pence is described as “self-infatuated,” “a bigot,” “a liar,” and “cruel.” Finally, Hank mentions that his Hank Unplugged podcast with Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of evangelist Billy Graham, is now online.\ Questions and Answers: Just as there will be different levels of reward in Heaven, will there be various levels of punishment in Hell? What does the Bible tell about the times we are in now? Does the Bible identify this as the “last generation”? What are your thoughts on Richard Rohr and his teaching on Christian mysticism, and your thoughts on Christian mysticism in general? Since you do not believe in the Rapture, how do you interpret 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18?

Encore: Philosophy, Politics, and the End of Liberal Arts Education and Q&A | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:55:00

Hank highlights an article in the CHRISTIAN RESEARCH JOURNAL titled "Philosophy, Politics, and the End of Liberal Arts Education." Marco Rubio used to joke that the job market for ancient Greek philosophers has been very tight for 2,000 years. According to Rubio, since welders make more money than philosophers, we need more welders. But what we really need are welders who have the capacity to untangle political rhetoric. We need people trained in the art and science of philosophy—people equipped with the kind of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding championed by Solomon. While vocations in science and technology are important, what is the value of cloning human beings, for example, if we lack the wisdom to navigate the moral quagmire of such radical biotechnology? The church and our nation would be well served if more Christians engaged the full spectrum of liberal arts and philosophical education. Questions and Answers: What is the biblical teaching on binding and loosening? How can I witness to Muslim regarding the doctrine of the Trinity? Is Allah the same as God the Father? I struggle with faith in God. How can I increase my faith? What is the book of Sirach, and is it in the Bible? Does your God know all things? If He knows all things, why would He create an impoverished child that would have to steal? Since the hope of the Christian is resurrection, what are Muslims hoping for in the afterlife? Are there extra-biblical texts like the Book of Enoch that still have insightful information? Since Jesus is a new creation like the first Adam, shouldn’t he have His own lineage?

Best of BAM: Why People Stop Believing and Q&A | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:55:00

On today's edition of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank discusses the book Why People Stop Believing by Paul Chamberlain, one of our CRI resources for July. This book helps to counter the challenge from critics who were formerly Christians, whose goals are to debunk the faith they once held and promoted. Hank also answers the following questions: I don't believe the people you were discussing as "former Christians" were never really Christians at all. What is the status of people who lived in the Americas during the Biblical times? Is salvation a possibility for them? I've been told that the Bible teaches that once a person leaves the faith, it's impossible to return to it. Is this true? Did Paul have the authority to change the Jewish dietary law?

Best of BAM: Chick-fil-A, Bible Study, and Q&A | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:55:00

Hank discusses an older article by Ryan Jaslow of CBS News, "Abortion tied to sharp decline in women's mental health." Mental health issues include depression and substance abuse. Hank also discusses Kim Painter's USA Today article, "As births decline in young women, they keep rising in 40-somethings. Here's why." Both issues are significantly contributing to the decline in US birth rates. Hank also answers the following questions: Was Abraham part of the old covenant? How did Noah know the difference between clean, and unclean animals? How can I deal with a pastor who is struggling with alcohol? What is the role of the Ten Commandments in the covenant? Can you help me understand the genealogy of Jesus? Was Mary Hebrew? I want to thank you for taking a stand on the Word Faith issue! You've been a blessing to me. I am a pastor of a small church in Texas. I've been falsely accused of a crime and must face the accusations legally. I've decided to step down as a pastor to keep from dragging the church through this as well. What are your thoughts on this?

Best of BAM: Chick-fil-A, Bible Study, and Q&A | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:55:00

Hank discusses the New Yorker article on Chick-fil-A's opening of its 4th restaurant in Manhattan. Columnist Dan Piepenbring criticizes this event in his article, "Chick-fil-A's Creepy Infiltration of New York City" because of its faith stance on important moral issues. Conservative columnist Jerry Boyer affirms that the New Yorker times have the right to publish their criticism, but also points out that the founders of New York were Dutch Calvinists, and that "some 60 percent of New Yorkers still self-identify as Christian." Bowyer concludes, "Maybe it's the New Yorker that's kind of creepy." Further responding to a question about reading books, Hank asserts that the best book to read and memorize is the "Book of books-the Bible." Using the acronym M-E-A-L-S, Hank shares encouraging ways to read, study, and memorize the Bible, and the substantial rewards of specific study habits. Hank reminds his listeners of the Legacy Reading plan available at CRI. Hank also answers the following questions: What is the best way to read a book? Our church has encouraged us to pray for Muslims during the month of Ramadan. Then they have us have us give them brochures from a specific organization. Are you familiar with this organization and its views? I didn't hear you mention to the previous caller that the Sabbath has its origin in the Genesis creation narrative. Where does Scripture tell us this has changed? Shouldn't we continue to observe the Sabbath? What are your thoughts about Mitt Romney's tweet criticizing the choice of Robert Jeffries to pray at the celebration of the new U. S. embassy in Jerusalem? I go to a fundamentalist church that has powerful beliefs regarding the Reformed faith that I don't agree with. How can I productively and respectfully debate this with them? Can you discuss the view that Mary remained a virgin after the birth of Jesus in spite of the scriptural refences to His brothers and sisters? My seven-year-old son recently asked, "Since God commands us to love everyone, are we supposed to love Satan?"
