Today, we’re going to be talking about building beneficial relationships with search publishers. We’re going to be talking about search from both the advertiser and the publisher’s side of the business. We’ll also be taking a look at some of the items that some of the affiliate networks, like Commission Junction, handle from a publisher compliance and support area of the business. While we get into those fun subjects, we’re actually going to have Todd Miller from Commission Junction join us.
Thinking about what we’re talking about today, it’s the beginning of November. Obviously, holiday season is upon us. So, what we’d like to actually cover today are different ways for publishers to get the most out of their business throughout the holiday season. Even though that we’re focusing on the publisher side, advertisers, this is definitely a show for you too. Thinking about what kind of tools and items you need to give your publishers.
We’ve talked a lot about affiliate marketing in general but one of the areas that we haven’t discussed on Affiliate Marketing Today is the foundation, the platform that everything runs on.
Today, we are going to be talking about payment cycles and payment periods in general and really why are they important to publishers? Why are they important to advertisers? What are some of the changes that are coming in the market place today?
Last week, we were talking about some interesting things but today loyalty being foremost in the front of our minds, I hear at this large network we work for and I’m sure also over at UPromise, we thought it might be also foremost in the minds of a lot of publishers in the world today as well as advertisers looking to take advantage of the opportunity of the timing we’re in today, August 1st. Why don’t we just dive into some of the details about what loyalty actually means.
Today’s show is going to be a little bit different format than those we’ve had in recent days. I was down in Orlando at Affiliate Summit 2006. Thought we’d might be interested to do a recap of some of the interviews that I was doing at the show. So, that all of you on the show and any of our listening audience, have a chance to participate in the Affiliate Summit even if you weren’t able to make it.
So, looking at some of the details of promotions, before we get into best practices and examples, I think it’s important for us to really look at what are we really talking about when we’re talking about promotions. Within the affiliate chain, we’re talking about really two main areas. The first is related to end-user promotions. So, these are promotions that are going to affect the consumer or end-user’s behavior. These are normally advertisers who want the consumer to do some sort of a specific action. This could be signing up for a newsletter, completing a purchase, increasing cart size, etc. We normally see these in the forms of coupon codes, sale priced items, inventory blow outs, and many others. The other one that we’re talking about, which I know is near and dear to Brian’s heart, is looking at publisher incentives.
