Matchday 1 of the Champions League is complete with very few surprises. Yesterday's action saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic grab a brace and end Milan's six game winless streak at home in the Champions League; Arsenal looked impressive, especially Cesc Fabregas, as they brushed aside Portuguese side Braga 6-0; Premier League Leaders and defending champions Chelsea went away to MSK Zilina and through a Man-of-the-Match performance from Nicolas Anelka, playing centrally in place of the suspended Didier Drogba, they were able to win comfortably 4-1; Jose Mourinho took charge of his first Champions League match in charge of Real Madrid and came away with a 2-0 win over Dutch side Ajax at the Bernabeau. Other results: Bayern Munich 2-0 Roma; CFR Cluj 2-1 FC Basel; Olympique de Marseilles 0-1 Spartak Moscow; Shaktar Donetsk 1-0 Partizan Belgrade. Steven and Kenny will give their complete thoughts on the first match day of the new Champions League season. After recording the biggest win in the first round of matches, we bring the Arseblogger to discuss his teams' performance last night and also discuss the domestic season his Gunners are having, and hope for. Michael Cox of zonalmarking.net, will join the boys to discuss the tactics used by the various managers during the opening round of fixtures in the Champions League. We welcome a new correspondent to the program, Leander Schaerlaeckens from ESPN Soccernet, to discuss his latest story. We welcome back Matthew Barker (Serie A correspondent) to discuss the Italian teams in the Champions League.

Yesterday's action saw newcomers to the competition Tottenham battle out a 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen; in the same group, defending champions Inter Milan drew with the same scoreline away to FC Twente. Barcelona showed their credentials for recapturing the Champions League trophy with a 5-1 demolition of Panathinaikos, with a possession percentage of a remarkable 74%. The so-called 'Battle of Britain' bored everyone with a 0-0 draw where Rangers went to Old Trafford with their mind set on defeat but came away from Manchester with a point. Other results: Benfica 2-0 Hapoel Tel Aviv; Lyon 1-0 Shalke; Bursaspor 0-4 Valencia; FC Copenhagen 1-0 Rubin Kazan. Today brings the second half of Matchday 1 where the likes of AC Milan, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Arsenal get their Champions League campaigns running. Steven and Kenny will give a rundown on yesterday's action and preview today's match-ups as well. Phil Ball from ESPN Soccernet will join us to discuss Valencia's and Barcelona's mathces yesterday and preview Real Madrid's match today. We will get the thoughts of Mark Ogden from the Telegraph on the match at Old Trafford last night between Manchester United and Rangers. We begin a new week here at World Football Daily. Seemingly hapless Wigan strolled into White Hart Lane at the weekend and claimed the shock result of the Premier League weekend, defeating Spurs 1-0. Carlos Tevez has submitted his claim for miss of the season after missing a gaping net in Manchester City's 1-0 loss to Sunderland thanks to a Daren Bent penalty in stoppage time. Steven and Kenny will be sure to discuss the Premier League weekend as well as the kickoffs for La Liga, Barcelona comfortable 3-0 winners over Racing Santander and Real Madrid drew 0-0 in Jose Mourinho's first match as manager of Los Merengues, and Serie A, Juventus continued their struggles with a 1-0 defeat away to Bari, Milan ran out comfortable 4-0 winners over Bari, and Sampdoria, fresh from their defeat in the Champions League playoff v. Werder Bremen, bounced back and won 2-0. Raphael Honigstein from the Guardian will join the boys for a complete review of the Bundesliga weekend: Michael Bradley's Monchengladbach 6-3 winners over Leverkusen in a barn burner. We welcome CBC Sports writer Nigel Reed to the program for the first time to get his take on the football world.
