Actress Thesy Surface (pronouncednlike “Daisy” with a “T”) endures hours in the make-up chair to create the unibrowed, lip-licking, deaf-mute Margaret McPoyle for the hit series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” airing on Comedy Central this summer. The new fan favorite Margaret McPoyle will resurface again in the all new season six airing later this fall on FX. Thesy is excited to return as the ‘fugly’ McPoyle, adding “working on Sunny is like taking a hike in Cracktown…but a fun Cracktown.” The British-born actress has been building a solid reputation in Hollywood over the last couple years. Her previous credits include appearances in the Travel Channels “Facets of the World,” Discovery & TLC’s “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant,” and a series of notable indie films.  Doug Glanville, Philadelphia Phillies player, ESPN Analst, author | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:30:00

Doug Glanville rose in the ranks to become one of the most dangerous players in baseball’s steroid era both offensively and defensively. He was an electric centerfielder and a good center fielder is at once a player, a strategist, an observer, and a thinker. Glanville uses these observations and reflections from a nine-year major league career to paint a complete picture of the hidden world of baseball players in The Game From Where I Stand: A Ballplayer’s Inside View. From a man who stood at the heart of the diamond, Glanville lends remarkable insight into surviving each day on a major league roster and reveals the human side of the game and the human side of the men who play it. There is no pretense here. There are no controversies. Glanville doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder or bones to pick with old foes or teammates. This is life in major league baseball. Glanville played outfield for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, and Texas Rangers from 1996 through 2004. From 2008 to 2010, he wrote the online column “Heading Home” for The New York Times and provided baseball analysis for XM Radio's MLB Power Alley. In the spring of 2010 he joined ESPN as a baseball analyst, contributing to Baseball Tonight, ESPN.com, and ESPN The Magazine.  Bo Diddley, legendary guitarist, Mr. Media Lost Tapes (1985) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:00

I found this 54-minute interview with Bo Diddley from April 20, 1985 by accident after digging up the print version of the interview. "I'm the dude that Elvis Presley copied. He copied me and combined Jackie Wilson," Diddley told me. That was a memorable day for two reasons: spending an hour with Bo in Ybor City, Florida, the afternoon of his show, of course, but also my memories of the photographer I worked with that day, Tom Howland, who was a long-time friend and who passed away suddenly a few years ago. Anyway, this interview is one of my all-time favorites. I hope you’ll enjoy this Mr. Media “Lost Tape.” Find more original interviews @ Mr. Media Radio • Twitter

sami.the.great, singer, Nothing Left to See | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:29:00

There is a moment in every artist’s life when her desire to create crystallizes; the evolving elements of inspiration and experience coalesce into a unified artistic purpose. It happens to anyone ever driven to create for a living, but rarely – or perhaps never – does that moment involve John Mayer. Yes, Sami Akbari, known musically as sami.the.great, became conscious of her desire to pursue music thanks to an encounter with John Mayer. It wasn’t his music or his overwhelming capacity for humility, but was more about a transitory experience that opened Sami’s eyes to what she could ultimately do with her powerhouse singing and songwriting. While in college in Roanoke, Virginia, Sami was on a committee of students that arranged for bands to play at the school, and the second act they brought was John Mayer. “This is an embarrassing story,” Sami says. “It was right before he became famous. It was about two or three weeks before his first video came out, and he was already on tour and had some recognition. I actually sat on his tour bus and sang with him. After they left I felt a huge void, and I decided to start writing music because I felt so connected to that whole experience.” Sami released a new EP, Nothing Left to See, which features five songs she has written over the past six years of her career and a cover of Sting’s “Roxanne.” sami.the.great website Find more original interviews @ Mr. Media Radio • Twitter
