Episode 187: Fleshing Out More Details About the Traders Reality Show Contest | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:42

If you heard our previous episode, then you'll know that our friend Pablo proposed a Traders Reality Show Contest, and your host Rob Booker agreed to go forward with such an event. Well, Episode 187 is primarily about the feedback that we got from listeners who have expressed their interest in participating, as well as Rob describing more details and rules for the contest. We talk about e-mails from Domas, Spencer, Serge, Neil, Lynn, Scott, Wayne and more from Pablo, the man who proposed the idea. And Rob wraps up the show with a very fascinating (non contest-related) e-mail from Master Nikhil Nair... Don't miss it! P.S.  Episode 186: Rob’s Turtle Traders Reality Show Contest | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:40

Here is another interesting episode of The Traders Podcast — once again — thanks to our listeners... Your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles begin the show by addressing a Spanish listener’s concerns that we did not show the proper love and respect for Spain in Episode 185. So, Rob expresses his feelings about Spain, and for the first time in Traders Podcast history, Jason has his wife, Natalie Pyles, say a few words. Next we got an e-mail from Steve, who’s asking for some clarification about when the London market opens, exactly... To get some additional insight on this question, Rob calls his friend Boris Schlossberg’s personal cell phone (while on the air) to get the answer. We also received an e-mail from Bill, who wrote in with some results from his “Coin Toss EA.” And next we get a suggestion from Pablo, who asks if Rob would devise “The Turtle Trader Experiment” by assembling a team of turtle traders to be trained by Rob’s expert trader friends and then watch the students trade for a living with their own money. (You already know what Rob's answer will be...) And finally, Dave writes in to the show to ask Rob to explain ETFs. Dave also asks whether Jennifer ever finished automating her trading system. Well, Episode 185 is the moment of truth, where your host, Rob Booker, and the producer, Jason Pyles, give you our State of the Podcast Address with a listener statistics update. (Don’t worry — it’s a little more fun than it sounds...) We list off the Top 10 Countries That Download The Traders Podcast. And Rob also laments certain low-rankers or total omissions. You may be as shocked as Rob is! And Rob takes a moment to speak to certain places: He talks about Singapore, Australia, Mexico, Italy and others. We also look at the Top 10 “User Agents” (or in other words — through what means you listen to the podcast most). We also take a look at the Top 10 States in the United States that listen, as well as the Top 10 U.S. Cities. Oh, and during this episode, Rob floats the idea of cutting a vinyl record with the four best Traders Podcast episodes. Leave us a comment and let us know (via episode numbers) which four you’d choose! Thanks for listening. Note: By the way, the world map shown above depicts all the places that download The Traders Podcast by coloring them with some shade of blue.  Episode 184: Making Heads or Tails Out of Trading | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:13

Episode 184 of The Traders Podcast will probably go down in the archives as one of our most provocative shows since Greg K. told us he could divine the future back in Episode 128. This episode explores what may be one of the simplest, yet craziest trading "systems" around... Your host Rob Booker catches up with his old friend Chris Mystic, a veteran of the currency market who decided to start trading randomly and entered a contest against other traders! The premise: Chris works for Traders Laboratory, and in an attempt to keep the subscribers entertained, he decided to conduct an experiment for one month: At the New York open, he'd flip a coin and if it was heads, he'd go long on the Euro dollar, and if it was tails, he would go short on the Euro dollar. He'd flip the coin 30 minutes before actually taking the trade. And he set some rules, such as it would be a 1:1 risk-to-reward, and 20 pips take profit, 20 pips stop-loss, and if the trade hasn't closed by 5 p.m., then he'd close it manually. And as mentioned above, Chris entered this random trading account into a trading contest with some intriguing results! So, as you might expect from your intrepid host, Rob tries to make sense of this madness and discusses how to turn it into an actual trading system. Naturally. Why wouldn't we? Thanks for listening.  Episode 183: Trading Is Gambling, the Ultimate Therapist and the Best Game in the World | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:52

In Episode 183, your host Rob Booker talks with Tim Hollingsworth, a motorcyclist from Australia who’s been a trader since 2001. Tim says you don’t have to know what’s going to happen in the market, in order to make money. Rob and Tim spend some time drawing parallels between motorcycling and trading and also the real estate business and trading. In this show you’ll hear Tim talk about the reasons why he tries to avoid speaking to people about trading. And you’ll also hear Tim offer a provocative opinion about how he thinks trading is gambling. You won’t want to miss this one! Thanks for listening.  Episode 182: What Happens in Automated Trading — Stays in Automated Trading | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:13

Your host Rob Booker wasn't able to record Episode 182, so Jason the producer gets to chat with “The Coach” — Scott Welsh, co-creator of the Bossilator course and a peak-performance instructor who resides in Columbus, Ohio. Scott and Jason begin by talking about Sin City — Las Vegas, Nevada — and why they’re so fond of it. This leads to a conversation about trading conferences in Vegas. And then Scott and Jason get around to the matter at hand: automated trading. Jason asks Scott how he can make a living from a strategy that only produces 12 to 13 traders per year. Scott also talks about the challenge of resisting the temptation to interfere with your automated system, which leads to a discussion about discipline and trading psychology. Jason asks Scott who can benefit from automated trading, and they talk about finding an automated trading system (and a programmer) that’s right for you. Listen and subscribe!  Episode 181: Position Trading | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:32

In Episode 181 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker chats with one of Jason’s favorite podcasting friends, Mr. Willis Wheeler. Willis is a big-time podcaster who’s a co-host on many different shows. He hails from the D.C. area and loves professional wrestling, movies, comic books, superheroes and he probably has one of the most unique voices in podcasting! (Yes, that's his real voice.) Naturally, Rob turns Willis’s interests into an episode about trading. Rob talks to Willis about collecting and the concept of getting something before anybody knows it’s special and holding onto it long enough for it to become valuable. This, of course, has metaphorical parallels with position trading. Enjoy the show, and if you love Willis’s voice as much as everybody else does, check him out on his other podcasts below!  Episode 180: Brokers, Bankruptcy and Matt LaCoco | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:18

Episode 180 is another listener mail bag show, where your host Rob Booker begins by asking the producer, Jason Pyles, about his five other podcasts (links and descriptions can be found below). Then we dive into the mail bag: Pablo writes to ask about brokers and bankruptcy. Nate thinks Matt LaCoco, Shonn Campbell and a number of other Rob Booker cohorts should have their own podcasts! James wrote in to request more Matt LaCoco, which leads into a discussion of sports drink flavors, which leads into a discussion about Fly Boarding. Peter writes to ask how to listen to The Traders Podcast on his iPhone. James sent in a comment about Jesse Livermore. Daljit had a question for Rob about his own personal trading. And Alan asks about "Booker reversal tabs." All of this — and so much more trading-related commentary — in Episode 180 of The Traders Podcast.  Episode 179: A Conversation From The Cigar Shop With Matt LaCoco and Shonn Campbell | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:19

In Episode 179, we bring you a little treat that’s a change of pace... Your host Rob Booker loves to hear what our fellow trading friends are thinking about — especially when those friends are Matt LaCoco and Shonn Campbell. Naturally, Rob sent them a digital audio recorder to capture their conversations about trading. ... Naturally. So, what you’re about to hear is a 20-minute excerpt of what was originally a 70-minute conversation between Shonn and Matt as they hang out at The Cigar Shop. This episode is a lot of fun, but it takes a little bit of concentration to listen to because there’s a great deal of ambient noise in the background, including a fountain and other people’s voices. But we sometimes like to capture the raw conversations that traders have “out in the field.” Matt and Shonn discuss a number of topics, including the pitfalls of investing too much time and effort into trading; adding to — and over-complicating — your charts; why the “Great Bear of Wall Street” himself, Jesse Livermore, wasn’t a big deal after all; an unhealthy fascination with the machismo method for making money; several “don’ts” that are indicative ways to tell if you’ve already lost; why it’s difficult to trade strictly from indicators and the idea that perhaps planning out a trade on indicators isn’t really planning a trade at all; and if you can believe this — Matt and Shonn also cover some ground that we’ve probably never talked about on The Traders Podcast before: the secret to training your kids to be good traders. Don’t miss it — this fun episode is worth your time. Thanks, Shonn and Matt!  Episode 178: How to Grow a Small Trading Account Into Something Much Bigger | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:32

Episode 178 is one of those episodes where your host, Rob Booker, delves into a topic that you’ve probably been waiting to hear about: How to Grow a Small Trading Account Into Something Much Bigger. A must-listen episode — for sure. To help Rob with this discussion, we have special guest Bradley Fried, the CEO of Rob Booker Japan. So, here’s the premise: Rob has been getting more and more questions lately from newer traders or those who recently took a break from their trading. And one question keeps coming up: I’m starting with a smaller account, but I heard you need at least $50,000 to $100,000 in order to trade for a living... so, how am I supposed to do this, if I’m starting with a small account? Brad and Rob offer some great discussion to address this question. Brad talks about making your trading more of a process — and how process is a mental posture against the problem of using the market and trying to get profit from it. Rob and Brad also talk about the role of fear in trading (and where it comes from). All of this and so much more is available for you in Episode 178. And by the way, you can support the podcast by checking out an upcoming trading course on “How to Grow a Small Account Into Something Big,” offered by Bradley Fried and Rob Booker.  Episode 177: August Trading – A Real Super Summer Slow Low-Volume Kind of Month | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:59

For Episode 177, your host Rob Booker speaks with veteran trader Jared Johnson, the CEO, founder and president of Day Traders FX.com about August trading. First Rob and Jared bring you an update on their charity trading account. Next Jared laments that the market has been so “August-ey” this month, which leads Rob to talk about his history of August trading and what had made this year different for him. Rob and Jared discuss how sometimes we think our trading system is broken, but in reality, the market conditions are just not favorable for trading. They talk about the trap that people who trade for a living fall into, namely, thinking they must be in the markets every day and refusing to take a vacation, in order to avoid “missing something.” Jared talks about the popular practice of bragging about how busy we are and how busyness is en vogue. Rob discusses knowing when to walk away because you’re not at your peak-performance level. And Rob and Jared chat about learning what you don’t do well and then adjusting accordingly. All of this and more in Episode 177 of The Traders Podcast. Don't miss it!  Episode 176: Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:22

This episode is one that many listeners have been hoping to hear: Back on Episode 159 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker invited our audience to write to us and let us know your favorite personal mantra — and the person who submits the best mantra (in Rob’s estimation) will win a $100 gift certificate to Amazon.com. So, Jason the producer reads through a number of favorite mantras submitted by the listeners — with the winning submission among them — as well as an impromptu runner-up winner who will be awarded a $25 gift certificate to Amazon.com. And as a bonus, Rob picks up the winning mantra and runs with it by giving some valuable application for traders. Thank you for your submissions. Enjoy the show!  Episode 175: Steven Cohen, SAC Capital and the Possible Return of The Honest Man | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:53

Episode 175 is a classic Traders Podcast episode... First you’ve got your host, Rob Booker, riffing on the newsworthy Steven A. Cohen and his giant hedge fund, which is now under indictment. Rob muses about whether SAC Capital cheated, and he underscores the Federal Government’s ingenious money management technique... All this naughtiness inspires Rob to ask whether there will be a “Return of The Honest Man,” and whether you’d cheat to profit financially (if you were sure of not getting caught). And as it naturally would, this train of thought leads Rob into a discussion of steroid use in Major League Baseball. Next Rob addresses a listener e-mail from Brian about focusing on what’s important first and prioritizing your day of trading. And all of this begins with Rob and Jason coming clean about what the heck happened with the comment backlog on The Traders Podcast Web site. Thank you for listening — enjoy!  Episode 174: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Trader’s Mind | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:10

During Episode 174 of The Traders Podcast, your host Rob Booker and the producer Jason Pyles sift through the mailbag. First up — FX Outlier asked when we were going to hear all of Brad’s 18 Rules of Trading. Rob answers and then briefly talks about a few of Brad’s trading rules. Radoslav writes in to ask about The Traders Podcast theme song. Scott (FatBeeTrader) leaves a comment in response to Episode 173. We receive a question from Chris about approving comments on the podcast Web site. Keith writes to recommend a TV show called “Skins.” (A photo from that program is pictured above.) Rob talks about having a personal rule of not trading while you’re sick. Marius answers Rob’s question about Gold from Episode 171. Then we discuss the incredible film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and its profundity. And Rob also talks about how baseball player Alex Rodriguez and Jeff Bezos have had some significant news coverage of late. As you can see, this episode is a random buffet of topical treats. Enjoy!  Episode 173: Trading Is Not an Ice Cream Cone | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 25:34

In Episode 173, your host Rob Booker begins with a reading of Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken,” a poem that Rob says has a direct application to trading. So, Rob uses this poem as a launching point and explains a few valuable lessons to benefit any trader. During the course of this discussion, Rob talks about phenomena such as the way most traders don’t hang on to their winners — or perhaps more accurately —most traders don’t have a profit target. Rob says he’s infuriated by an epidemic of not focusing; he says it’s time for you decide what you’re going to focus on — including what kind of trader you are, and what kind of person you’re going to be in the market. Rob talks about being afraid of what’s to come on your path up ahead. Rob says “The Road Taken” is the “fun” road, but trading is not supposed to be fun. Trading is not an ice cream cone. And Rob closes with a list of what trading is (and what it is not). Good stuff — listen! Links for this episode: Rob on Twitter: @RobBooker The Traders Podcast on Twitter: @TradersPodcast E-mail us!
