 Community Matters | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:52

This episode we talk about the doco Harmontown and the comedy-drama This is Where I Leave You. For homework we have the Harmontown podcast, Monster House and Rick and Morty. So come and hit the moonshine with Pete and Justin on the Shoot The Glass podcast!

 Family Matters | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:23

Sorry for the long delay, dear listeners... once again, life got in the way of recording the podcast. But we're back now. With a vengeance! This week we talk about the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, indie hit Obvious Child, and Fincher's latest Gone Girl, which is happily doing great business at the box office while also engaging with properly grown-up ideas. For a change. For homework we have some Fincher classics in Zodiac and Fight Club, and the recent animated series Bojack Horseman. So come and enjoy the Affleckonnaissance -- we're going to try and coin that even though we know it's not going to work -- with Pete and Justin on the Shoot The Glass podcast!

Beaten to the Punch | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:23

This week we talk about feelgood film Begin Again and the latest Elmore Leonard adaptation Life of Crime, which is incidentally a prequel to Tarantino's Jackie Brown. Speaking of Jackie Brown, I finally saw the light and realised that it's an absolute cracker of a film. I've always thought of it as a bit of a misfire and Pete has always loved it, but now I see that I was wrong and he was so right: every moment of Jackie Brown is a joy. So that's our first film for homework, along with Soderbergh's excellent Out of Sight and Blake Edwards' Breakfast at Tiffany's. But mostly the homework is Jackie Brown! Which is awesome! I really can't overstate how awesome it is. So come snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie -- hey, how about Jackie Brown? -- with Pete and Justin on the Shoot the Glass podcast!

Increasingly Poor Decisions | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:48

This week we talk about the latest young adult novel adaptation The Giver and found-footage disaster picture Into the Storm. Along the way Pete gets worked up enough to pull out the stops and fix the ailing found-footage genre... so that's worth the price of admission right there! For homework we have Jan de Bont's Twister, the granddaddy of indie found-footage blockbusters The Blair Witch Project, and classic of the genre Man Bites Dog. So buckle up, brace for impact and whatever you do stay in the tank -- we really can't stress that last point enough, stay in the tank! -- with Pete and Justin on the Shoot The Glass podcast!

 Lost Boys | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:39

This week we talk about the exceedingly titled The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, the inevitable sequel The Expendables 3, and the vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows. Which, by the way, we really can't praise highly enough. For homework we have Woody Allen's Zelig, classic Dracula pic Nosferatu, and a colourful take on the making of Nosferatu in Shadow of the Vampire. Oh, and A Trip to the Moon, which is not only awesome but will only take about fifteen minutes of your time. So keep away from sunny days and pointy wooden things with Pete and Justin on the Shoot the Glass podcast!

 A Twist Too Far | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:30

Sorry this episode is a little late, dear listeners! This week we delve into two films that just refuse to let a story be simple, indie time travel picture Predestination and Brett Ratner's crack at an old tale in Hercules. We really give them a hard time... sorry to everyone involved. We know making movies is hard. For homework we have Clash of the Titans, an older attempt at a Hercules movie, and the New Zealand comedy What We Do in the Shadows. So put in some elbow grease  -- these twelve labours won't do themselves! -- with Pete and Justin on the Shoot the Glass podcast.

Lovers and Fighters | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:42

It's a short one this week which means that, like an all-syrup Squishee, the concentrated goodness will blow your mind. Or something! This episode we talk about Aussie apocalypse film These Final Hours, Ebert doco Life Itself, and rom-com spoof They Came Together. We also discuss the trailer for the new Mad Max film and recommend Mad Max 2 for homework along with old Melbourne indie Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em and New Zealand low-budget schlocker Battletruck. Which I accidentally call Battletruck 2000, but I don't think Battletruck minds. Battletruck is surprisingly forgiving. Battletruck. So run to the chapel, interrupt that ceremony and speak now or forever hold your peace with Pete and Justin on the Shoot the Glass podcast!

 O Captain! My Captain! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:02

This week we pay our respects to the late, great Robin Williams and recommend Good Will Hunting, Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society and The Fisher King as films to watch in his honour, along with the TV series that made him a star, Mork and Mindy. Lauren Bacall also passed this week, and for her we have the classics To Have and Have Not and Key Largo. In happier news, Pete has found that Netflix is a great service and we discuss some of the latest rumours and stuff surrounding JJ Abrams' Star Wars movie. Pete also throws in another piece of homework, the indie doco The People vs. George Lucas. And, of course, we talk about some films! Well just one, actually, but it's a doozy -- Marvel's latest blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy. So cue up your favourite mixtape, put on your headphones and come dance through the universe with Pete and Justin on the Shoot The Glass podcast!

 Predestination | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:49

This week we talk in depth about a sequel to a reboot of a franchise that was already rebooted with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and a grim examination of the Catholic Church's crimes with Calvary. Pete also has some cracking recommendations for homework with The Guard, In Bruges and Life Itself! So come and weather the forces of history with Pete and Justin on the Shoot The Glass Podcast!

Through the Looking Glass | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:44

This week I went and saw Tim's Vermeer, about a guy called Tim who's convinced that Johannes Vermeer used a secret high-tech method to make his paintings, and Pete and I both saw 22 Jump Street, about Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill doing the same shit all over again except with more money. We also discuss Louis CK's suggestion that Donald Rumsfeld is secretly an alien lizard and, as part of our This Day in History segment, Robert Shaw's incredible USS Indianapolis monologue in Jaws. For homework we have smh.tv, which is has loads of streaming video stuff including John Pilger's Utopia, which we talked about last week. So watch your back and trust no-one except Pete and Justin on the Shoot The Glass Podcast!

 Someone Else’s Lunch | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:32

I saw John Pilger's Utopia this week and, because it deals with the ongoing effect on indigenous Australians of an invasion from which I profit, I struggle to talk sensibly about it. Pete saw The Lunchbox and happily talks very sensibly about it because it's a mild and life-affirming indie comedy that doesn't call into question the legitimacy of the very ground upon which he stands. Because I recently saw Alien at The Astor in Melbourne, we discuss great horror films and Pete blows my mind by citing a definition of the genre that I've never heard before. For homework we have the docos Stop at Nothing about Lance Armstrong, Once Upon a Time in Punchbowl about the Cronulla riots in Sydney and Rich Hall's Inventing the Indian about the constructed image of Native Americans throughout history. And to cheer you up, Pete recommends some Otis Lee Crenshaw. So grab an oar and pull it with gusto as we approach the shores of terra nullius -- utopia indeed -- on the Shoot The Glass Podcast.

 Not A Political Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:20

Pete saw Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon's The Trip to Italy and I saw Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore's Blended. Can you guess which one was better? Yep, you can. You totally can. You just did. As soon as you read that opening sentence you did. And you were right! High five! For homework we have 24 Hour Party People, Red Letter Media's take on Jack and Jill and of course that monument to old-school racism The Gods Must Be Crazy. So come board the boat with Pete and Justin as we embark on a voyage to enlighten the savage!

 Revising History | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:29

This episode has a mildly provocative and misleading title because we talk about three films that mess with history in one way or another: franchise reboot Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Seth MacFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West, and the Groundhog Day-meets-Starship Troopers movie Edge of Tomorrow. We also discuss the concept of genre. Speaking of genre, what about the name "Same Day, Different Shit" for whatever genre Groundhog Day is? Just putting it out there. And for homework we have the curious Wet Hot American Summer. So don't draw first but best draw fast as Pete and Justin hide like the cowards they are in the Shoot The Glass saloon!

 Old School | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:04

It's late! So here we go! This week we talk Jon Favreau's food-van movie Chef and Bryan Singer's return to the franchise he proved could work, X-Men: Days of Future Past. For homework we have Favreau's big break, the worthy classic Swingers. And... yeah, that's it. There's not much more to say. Except maybe that it's a good episode! You'll like it! So come and fire up the sandwich-press and remake history with Pete and Justin on the Shoot The Glass podcast!

Saving Private Collections | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:15

This week Pete saw Transcendence, I saw The Monuments Men and we disagree on the merits of Wes Anderson's latest, The Grand Budapest Hotel. We also discuss the final and probably permanent cancellation of NBC's Community and the new TV show Fargo, based on the Coen Brothers film of the same name. For homework we have the hilariously dated but surprisingly entertaining Virtuosity, Clooney's directorial debut Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, and a frighteningly comprehensive and detailed website dedicated to TV tropes called... well,  TV Tropes. And if you haven't heard the classic British comedy radio-show The Goon Show, you're missing out! So come sit by the fire as we stitch feathers to our leathers and tell tales of the Before-Time on the Shoot The Glass podcast!
