This week on the podcast we're winding down our discussion of the second (and, as it turned out, final) season of Stargate Universe. Darren and David will recap the past season in its entirety, including some major storylines for several characters, the evolution of the crew, and the revelation of Destiny's mission. We'll also talk about the Lucian Alliance, Destiny getting inside the team's heads, the drones, and the people of Novus. The GateWorld Podcast returns this week (from an earlier-than-expected summer hiatus) to wrap up our discussion of Stargate Universe's final episodes! In a massive, 82-minute installment this week, Darren and David are talking about "Gauntlet," the season finale that left many SGU fans happy but still wanting more. We'll discuss the drone threat and how they've targeted Destiny, Eli's crazy idea to bypass the enemy, and the crew's last goodbyes to their loved ones back home. We'll also talk about whether this episode is at all satisfying as a final episode, and what the writers were thinking about for resolving the cliffhanger at the start of Season Three. And we have tons of voicemail from Stargate fans on the series finale and the end of SGU. The podcast will continue on a somewhat less regular schedule, as we have time. "Blockade" (SGU #219). On this week's podcast Darren and David discuss "Blockade," the nineteenth and penultimate episode of Stargate Universe's second season. We'll talk about Eli's crazy plan to recharge Destiny, the drone threat, and the crew's trip to an abandoned planet and what they found there. We'll also discuss Dr. Park's terrifying ordeal during the ship's trip through a blue supergiant, and whether we thought she would live or die. At the top of the show we'll also discuss some of the big headlines in recent weeks, including Darren's editorial on how wrestling is killing science fiction and the open letter to fans from Syfy Channel's Craig Engler. We'll give the run-down on the Stargate Rewatch (starting August 1), and we have plenty of listener mail from fans all over the world discussing recent episodes and the cancellation. "Epilogue" (SGU #218). The podcast is back this week with Darren and David's conversation about "Epilogue," which will certainly go down in history as one of Stargate Universe's finest hours. After two years the characters have grown to be very relatable and sympathetic. We'll talk about the crew's mission to the planet Novus to retrieve supplies and information, and the alternate lives they find recorded there. We'll also discuss the character's pairing off and having babies, T.J.'s disturbing revelation, and much more. We also have another extra-large voicemail segment on the cancellation of the show. "Common Descent" (SGU #217). Stargate Universe is certainly going out with a bang! On this week's show Darren and David are reunited to talk about "Common Descent," a terrific episode with the return of a powerful foe and an interesting science fiction premise. We'll talk about the return of the drone ships and the new tricks they have up their sleeves, Destiny's descendants and their hope of returning home to Novus, and our first glimpses at an alternate history for our crew. First up we'll talk about Syfy's decision to move Sanctuary to Mondays (note that we recorded this show before those first ratings were revealed). "The Hunt" (SGU Episode #216). This week on the podcast we're up to Stargate Universe's "The Hunt," the sixteenth episode of the final season! Joining David once again is our friend Diana Botsford. We'll talk about Greer's loss of mojo, Varro's turn to step up and shine, and the encounter with sentient beasts. We'll also discuss the newly discovered stasis chambers (and why Destiny has them at all), and Rush's having fun at his comrade's expense. First up, we'll get Diana's thoughts on the end of Stargate and the life that the franchise still has in it. BONUS PODCAST! Stargate's End? Yesterday news broke that Stargate Universe will not be continuing on in movie form, and that the SG-1 and Atlantis movies have been permanently mothballed, as well. "Seizure" (SGU #215). This is one we have been waiting for! "Seizure" saw not just guest appearances from two Stargate Atlantis cast members, plus the amazing Lou Diamond Phillips and Victor Garber, but also some advancements in SGU's overall storyline. Earth and the Lucian Alliance have managed to blow up two naquadria-rich planets in order to dial the 9-chevron address to Destiny ... so what happens when both sides want to use Langara (Jonas Quinn's homeworld) to try it again? This week on the podcast Diana Botsford (Twitter) is back to talk about "Seizure" with David. We'll talk about Rodney McKay's character and his interactions with Destiny's crew, Colonel Telford and his shifting priorities, and the beautiful visuals and colors of the episode. We#ll also discuss the heroes acting in an underhanded way, Rush being trapped in a simulation with Amanda Perry, and whether "Seizure" should really be called an Atlantis "crossover." "Hope" (SGU #214). Episode 14 of the new season of Stargate Universe saw the return of not just one but two important characters we thought were killed off for good earlier this season. And while Eli, Rush, and Matt dealt with the presence of two extra minds inside Chloe's body, T.J. has her own hands full with a surgery for which she is far under-qualified ... with the lives of both Dale Volker and Ronald Greer hanging in the balance. GateWorld's own Chad Colvin steps in to co-host this week's show! Chad and Darren will talk about Volker's storyline and this episode's use of humor, the return to Ginn and Amanda Perry, and Destiny's A.I. and the presence of digitized minds in the ship's computer (including some speculation on Dr. Franklin and Rush's wife, Gloria). "Alliances" (SGU #213). Stargate Universe continues its final stretch of episodes every Monday on Syfy Channel, and this week on the Podcast David and Darren are talking about episode 13, "Alliances." This episode welcomed a couple of big guest stars in Kathleen Quinlan (Senator Michaels) and French Stewart (Dr. Andrew Covel), forwarded the story of the Lucian Alliance threat, and gave us some good character moments. We'll talk about Wray and Greer being forced to improve their relationship, the attack on Washington, D.C., and Wray and Greer's decision to try and disarm the bomb. We'll also talk about the intentions of Dr. Covel and Senator Michaels, and the possibility that Earth might fund Destiny's mission. And we'll hear what other fans thought about this episode. Destiny's 'Cosmic' Mission. Tonight Stargate Universe kicks off with a bang as the first of the final 10 episodes premieres on Syfy Channel in the U.S. (It's on tomorrow night on SPACE in Canada.) To celebrate the new episodes the GateWorld Podcast is returning to its regular weekly format, and this week Darren and David are talking about Destiny's mission, cosmic background radiation, Destiny's own intelligence, and obtaining the power of the universe.
