Marek: Mieszkańcy bardzo bali się tego smoka, dlatego co tydzień przynosili mu bydło i kładli je przed jego jamą. Marek: A gdy się zdarzyło, że o tym zapomnieli, smok przychodził do miasta i pożerał przypadkowe ofiary. Marek: Wielu próbowało go pokonać, ale nikomu się to nie udało. Aż pewnego dnia, pewien szewc o imieniu Dratewka postawił zmierzyć się ze smokiem. Marek: Rozciął on owce, a do środka włożył siarkę. Potem położył te owce na trawie przed smoczą jamą i czekał. Marek: Głodny smok wyszedł i zjadł wszystkie owce, jedną za drugą. Marek: I nagle zachciało mu się bardzo pić. Wskoczył więc do jeziora i zaczął pić wodę. Wielu turystów przyjeżdża do Polski nie tylko po to, by podziwiać zabytki średniowiecznej Europy, ale przede wszystkim po to, by nacieszyć się przyrodą. W Polsce wciąż istnieje wiele miejsc, w których ludzie i dzika przyroda współżyją ze sobą w spokoju. Jednym z najbardziej szlachetnych, żywych pomników takiego współżycia jest Puszcza Białowieska. W dawnych czasach niemal całą powierzchnię Polski pokrywały gęste, niebezpieczne lasy. Do dzisiejszych czasów dotrwały jednak tylko niewielkie, w porównaniu do swoich pierwotnych rozmiarów, fragmenty starożytnych puszcz, chronione jako rezerwaty przyrody. Puszcza Białowieska jest pozostałością ostatnich na Niżu Europy lasów naturalnych o charakterze pierwotnym i rozciąga się na obszarze ponad 1500 km kwadratowych, z czego 620 km kwadratowych znajduje się w granicach Polski. Jednym z najbardziej znanych mieszkańców puszczy jest żubr, kuzyn amerykańskiego bizona. Żubr mieszka także w innych miejscach w Polsce, na Litwie, Białorusi, czy Ukrainie. Jest jednak bardzo rzadkim gatunkiem, który rzadko wychodzi z gęstwiny lasu. Dlatego Puszcza Białowieska, w której żyje ponad 600 sztuk, to doskonałe miejsce na spotkanie z tym szlachetnym zwierzęciem. Żubry są prawdziwymi władcami puszczy, również w swoim własnym mniemaniu i ludzi traktują zwykle z ostentacyjną obojętnością, ale nie oznacza to bynajmniej, że pozwolą się do siebie zbliżyć. Najlepszym sposobem na to, by przyjrzeć się Ich Wysokościom trochę lepiej, będzie wycieczka do Rezerwatu Pokazowego Żubrów w Puszczy Białowieskiej. Tym, na których duże zwierzęta nie robią wrażenia, puszcza oferuje coś jeszcze większego – drzewa. W tak starym lesie jak Puszcza Białowieska niemal co krok natykamy się na drzewa starsze od naszych pradziadków. Najstarsze i największe z drzew mają swoje imiona i własne ścieżki turystyczne. Jednak turystom i miejscowym wcale to nie przeszkadza, a ogromne, ciche drzewa zdają się nie mieć nic przeciwko takim opowiastkom. Zresztą, kto wie, może gdzieś w głębi puszczy wciąż rośnie nieodkryty prawdziwy dąb Jagiełły? ----Formal English---- Meet European Bison from Białowieża Forest Many tourists come to Poland not only to admire the relics of medieval Europe, but before anything else, to enjoy the nature. In Poland, there are still a lot of places where people and wild nature coexist in peace. One of the most noble, living monuments of such coexistence is Białowieża Forest. In ancient times, almost the whole area of Poland was covered with thick, dangerous forests. However, compared to the original size, only small fragments of the ancient woodlands have survived until today, and they are protected as nature preserves. Białowieża Forest is a remnant of the last primeval forests of the European Plain, and it spreads across an area of more than 1500 square meters, out of which 620 square meters are within Polish borders. One of the best known residents of the woodland is the European bison, a cousin of the American buffalo. The European bison also lives in other places in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine.
