#328 –The Red Book and Cycles of Change with Jungian Analyst Robert Bosnak | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:37

Transcript Robert Bosnak is a Dutch Jungian psychoanalyst, and diplomate of the C.G.Jung Institute, who trained in Zurich, Switzerland from 1971 to 1977. In the late 1970′s he pioneered a radically new method of dreamwork, based loosely on the work of C.G.Jung, especially on Jung’s technique of active imagination and his studies of Alchemy. From the point of view of the dreaming state of mind, dreams are real events in real environments. Based on this notion, Robert Bosnak developed methods to re-enter dreams by inducing a hypnagogic state–a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping–through a process of careful questioning. His techniques are now applied worldwide, by therapists, artists, actors, and others interested in the creative imagination. His first book, A Little Course in Dreams was translated into 12 languages. Since then he has written Christopher’s Dreams: Dreaming and Living with AIDS and Tracks in the Wilderness of Dreaming in which he describes his techniques in detail. His in-depth work has been effective both individually and in groups and easily adapts to the Web because of its simple rules and group emphasis. A 30-hour course on the Red Book is being offered to you by Cyberdreamwork and the Jung Platform and supported by Depth Alliance with an online discussion forum. Click here to go to the JungPlatform site and use our special code for a 25% discount: DRDAVE And, Depth Psychology Alliance is also sponsoring a free online Book Club for the Robert Bosnak material. Click here for info about the Book Club. When cyberdreamwork.com opened its site on the Web in 1997, Robert Bosnak introduced a new, global, real-time, method of doing group dreamwork over the Internet. He is past president of the International Association for the Study of Dreams IASD, and was visiting professor of clinical psychology at Kyoto University in Japan. After having been in private practice in Cambridge, Massachusetts for 26 years, he is currently based in California at the Santa Barbara Healing Sanctuary.  #322 – Mastering Resilience with Dennis Charney MD | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:11:21

Dennis S. Charney, MD is Dean of Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs of The Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Charney is a world expert in the neurobiology and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. He has made fundamental contributions to the understanding of neural circuits and neurochemistry related to human anxiety, fear, mood as well AS THE discovery of new treatment for mood and anxiety disorders. He later expanded this area into pioneering research related to the psychobiological mechanisms of human resilience to stress. Early in his career, Dr. Charney led a team that determined that the biology of human anxiety disorders were characterized by excessive noradrenergic activity and dysfunction in specific neural circuits including the prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus. His work in depression led to new hypotheses regarding the mechanisms of antidepressant drugs and discovery of new and novel therapies for treatment resistant depression including Lithium and Ketamine, which works within hours. After decades of work on the biology of anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Dr. Charney and colleagues have turned their attention toward investigating the psychobiological mechanisms of human resilience to stress. They have found specific hormones and peptides which contribute to resilience and identified a prescription for enhancing human resilience. A prolific author, Dr. Charney has written more than 700 publications, including groundbreaking scientific papers, chapters, and books. Dr. Charney’s most recent book is Resilience: The Science of Mastering Life’s Greatest Challenges. A board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, Dr. Rappaport is associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School where she teaches undergraduates, medical students, and residents about child development and supervises child psychiatry fellows in local schools. Her research, teaching, and clinical expertise focus on the collaboration between education and psychiatry. After graduating from Princeton, Dr. Rappaport worked as a science teacher at an innovative elementary school in Harlem, New York. In this economically disadvantaged neighborhood with many children hindered by poverty and other issues at home, Rappaport advocated for support for struggling families. “The Children’s Storefront” — a documentary of her work in Harlem — was nominated for an Oscar for best documentary in 1988. Dr. Rappaport’s life-altering experiences in Harlem inspired her to enter medical school and would help launch a robust career. Graduating from Tufts School of Medicine in 1993, Rappaport completed an internship in pediatrics and a residency in adult psychiatry, both at Massachusetts General Hospital, before completing a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Cambridge Hospital. It was during this fellowship that Rappaport forged a longstanding relationship with the Teen Health Center at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS), where she is still employed today. From 1993-98 Rappaport designed and implemented an advising program at CRLS that focused on the mentoring role of teachers and how student motivation and academic engagement is increased with mentoring. This successful program was institutionalized at CRLS and became a model for similar programs across the country. Rappaport has worked with the Cambridge public schools as an attending child and adolescent psychiatrist for more than 18 years. She has designed numerous courses for teachers on psychopharmacology, adolescent development, and instructional strategies for disruptive students. She has worked at the national level with the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. With several publications in peer-reviewed journals and multiple invited presentations, she is often called upon for her expertise at both the local and national level. She received the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s Sidney Berman Award for the School-Based Study and Treatment of Learning Disorders and Mental IIlness in 2012. Dr. Rappaport also authored the memoir In Her Wake: A Child Psychiatrist Explores the Mystery of Her Mother’s Suicide (Basic Books, September 2009), winner of the Boston Authors Club’s 2010 Julia Ward Howe Prize.
