For his merits to society and science, he was, on behalf of the Queen of the Netherlands, decorated as Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion in 2002. Some of Hubert’s most impressive memories was when he looked, as a 6-year-old boy, in September 1944, at the passing soldiers of the American 30th Infantry Division “Old Hickory,” who liberated his place of birth, Maastricht, from the German occupation. Some months later, he survived a bomb attack which killed many neighbors living opposite his parents’ house. He describes such autobiographical events in his book Between dreaming and recognition seeking (2012), in which he applies Dialogical Self Theory to his own life.  #485 – Neuroscience and The Dalai Lama with Hanno Kirk PhD - Shrink Rap Radio Psychology Interviews: Exploring brain, body, mind, spirit, intuition, leadership, research, psychotherapy and more! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:11:44

Hanno W. Kirk, PhD, LICSW, has been a teacher, trainer and author for the past 35 years. He has a wide ranging and eclectic background from studying nuclear strategy and international law at UCLA, to human development in the ARICA Institute, to clinical social work, to end of life care, and more recently to neuroscience. In 2006 after touring the United States with a seminar entitled “Is it ADHD or Pediatric Bipolar: Differential Diagnosis and Effective Treatment,” he developed an intense interest in the functioning of the brain. He became trained as a practitioner of Neurofeedback and has been using it in his private psychotherapy practice ever since. Some unexplained failures with Neurofeedback with two young autistic women led him to explore biomedical issues that can interfere with brain functioning. This led him in 2014 to assemble a team of experts to produce the book he edited Restoring the Brain: Neurofeedback as an Integrative Approach to Health, which was just published by Taylor and Francis Press. In September of this year he and his wife (who specializes in psychological trauma work), were invited to go to Dharamsala, India to attend a four day teaching event by the Dalai Lama. They were granted a private audience with the Dalai Lama, who is very interested in neuroscience. It was a defining highlight of their lives. Transcript Shannon Love began life in rural Alabama as a seemingly stable and content youngster. After marrying her childhood sweetheart she continued on this path of fulfillment, expanding her household to five members and thoroughly enjoying a nomadic and international lifestyle. Three countries and five states later she suffered a psychotic break, forcing her into yet another world – that of mental illness. Repatriated to the U.S., Shannon now resides in Houston where she hangs her many hats. As a mom and wife, she adores her husband, two sons, and daughter. As a regular gal, she looks forward to lunch dates with her girlfriends, and as a creative thinker, when she’s not writing, she enjoys dabbling in watercolors, acrylics, and clay. Confessing her inadequacies, she professes that her words paint a far better picture than does her brush. With that said, she also admits to singing in the shower, although she’s known to be tone-deaf.
