Lukas: Nou bijvoorbeeld concentratievermogen en reactiesnelheid en conditie. Pip: Dat heet gewoon ouder worden! Lukas: Ja, dat denk ik ook, maar dat dat nu al voelbaar is, dat vind ik eng. Ik heb altijd gedacht dat zulke dingen pas beginnen als je 60 bent of ouder. Pip: Het ligt misschien ook wel aan je omgeving. Als iedereen rondom je jong is, blijf je langer jong denk ik. Pip: I think that's called growing older. Lukas: Yes I think so too, but it has already started. I always thought these things would only start when you're sixty or older. Pip: It might also have to do with your environment. When everybody around you is young, you'll probably stay younger as well. Net zoals in, "Als ik een timmerman was en jij een dame, zou je dan toch met me trouwen?" Lukas: Daar zit een diepe gedachte achter. Pip: Ik denk dat ik de rest van mijn leven zou reizen als ik zoveel geld had. Lukas: Ja, maar stel je eens voor; altijd op reis zijn, word je daar niet heel eenzaam van? Pip: Ik weet het niet, meestal voel ik me heerlijk als ik op reis ben, zelfs al is het soms een beetje eenzaam. Je komt wel altijd veel mensen tegen als je reist. Lukas: Dat klopt, maar uitsluitend als je alleen reist. Als stel ontmoet je veel minder mensen. Mensen laten stellen meestal met rust. Pip: Ja, moeilijke beslissing hè! Lukas: Ja, met de hele tijd 'als' en 'wanneer'. ----Formal English---- Pip: What would you do if you had a billion dollars? Lukas: Gee, how many zeroes is that? Dreaming about unreal things is always a joy. Pip: Yes true. All in the conditional. As in "If I were a carpenter and you were a lady, would you marry me anyway?" Lukas: There's some deep thinking behind that. Pip: I think I would travel for the rest of my life if I had that much money. Lukas: Yes, but imagine traveling all the time, wouldn't that make you very lonely? Pip: I'm not sure, but usually when I travel I feel great, even if it is a little lonely sometimes. The thing is: you usually meet a lot of people when travelling. Lukas: That's right, but only if you travel alone. A couple meets less people, other people tend to leave them alone. Er is een röntgenfoto genomen, maar ik ben hier naartoe doorverwezen. Het is dus niet gebroken. Hans: Ok, ga hier maar even liggen. Waar doet het precies pijn? Tina: Hier in mijn rechterkuit, vooral bij het oplopen van de trap. Hans: Ja ik zie het al. Ik stel voor iedere dag een twintig minuten massage. Tina: OK, prima, dank je wel. ----Formal English---- Hans: Good afternoon, come in. Tina: Hello, sir. Hans: No, just call me Hans. By the looks of it there's something with your leg. Tina: Yes, that's right. I stumbled during a hockey match and hurt it. They took an X-ray, but they sent me here, so nothing is broken. Hans: Ok, just lie down here please. Pip: Ik vind dat Spaans een interessantere taal en ook een mooiere taal is dan Engels. Bovendien is Spaans ook een belangrijke taal. Lukas: Ja het is zeker een belangrijke taal, maar dat is Engels ook. Ben je verliefd geworden op een Spaanstalige jongen? Pip: Haha, nee dat is het niet. Het gaat echt om de taal. Ik vind de grammatica mooier en de klanken ook. Lukas: Over grammatica gesproken, houd je daarvan of vind je het een rotwerk, al die dingen leren? Pip: Ja, er zijn wel dagen dat ik het niet leuk vind, maar het is nu eenmaal nodig. Lukas: Ja, het is nodig, net als rekenen. Je moet weten dat twee plus twee vier is. Pip: Ja, in ieder geval minimaal vijf. ----Formal English---- Lukas: I don't understand why you want to switch from studying English to studying Spanish. Pip: I just think that Spanish is a more interesting and more beautiful language. Besides, I think it is also a very important language. Lukas: Yes, it is definitely an important language, but so is English. Did you fall in love with a Spanish-speaking guy? Pip: Haha, no that's not it. It's really about languages. I find the grammar is nicer and the sounds are nicer. Lukas: Talking about grammar, do you like it, or is it a chore, learning all these things? Pip: Yes, there are days I dislike it, but then again, it is necessary. Lukas: Yes it's necessary, just like basic arithmetic. You need to know that two plus two equals four.
