He graduated from Harvard University and received All-Ivy League honors and also became captain of his team in his senior year. After being drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1970s, but falling short of making the roster, he was offered a position as a sports broadcaster for the Washington Bullets. He later moved on to the anchor position at WDVM-TV in Washington, DC and soon began working at CBS. While at CBS Sports, he worked as a play by play announcer for NFL telecasts and major events such as the NBA finals and the Winter Olympic Games. In 1994, he accepted the position of host of the NFL on Fox pregame show. He is the current host of The NFL Today on CBS and Inside the NFL on Showtime. He says of his faith, 'when I worked in the corporate world I was considered a success by the world, because of the good money I made, and the Corvette I owned, but I felt a "distinct emptiness" in my life. I knew the reason was because I wasn't walking with God, and I turned my life back over to the Savior. I prayed that God would help me walk uprightly before Him, and now my life is 'wonderful." He challenges young people by saying, ' all other success in life, apart from believing and trusting Jesus Christ and his death on the cross for the forgiveness of sins and living for him, is "short-term success." Let's Roll! He is recognized as a hero for his actions aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on that fateful day of September 11, 2001. After United Airlines Flight 93 was hijacked, he and other passengers communicated with people on the ground via in-plane and cell phones, and learned that the World Trade Center had been attacked using hijacked airplanes. Trying to place a credit card call through a phone located on the back of a plane seat, he was routed to GTE supervisor Lisa Jefferson. He reported that one passenger was killed and, later, that a flight attendant had told him the pilot and co-pilot had been forced from the cockpit and may have been wounded. He was also on the phone when the plane made its turn in a southeasterly direction. He later informed Lisa Jefferson that some of the plane's passengers were planning to "jump on" the hijackers and fly the plane into the ground before the hijackers' plan could be followed through. Before ending the phone call, he recited The Lord's Prayer with Jefferson, and his reported last audible words were, "Are you guys ready? Let's roll." He and his wife taught Sunday School at their church for six years, and he is known today as a man of faith, selflessness, and courage. He was posthumously awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award in 2002. His name is Todd Beamer.

Where were you on September 11, 2001? Well, I was in my church office working. I had just finished conducting a chapel meeting with the students and teachers of our elementary school. My secretary came in late that morning, and told me to cut on the television. At the time, I did not own a television, so I borrowed one from a friend and turned it on to one of the national news channels, and like millions of others, I was stunned. Words fail to describe the unbelievable tragedy--the devastation--of that fateful day. At 8:45 a.m., a plane hijacked by terrorists crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Minutes later, another plane hurtled into the south tower. Massive explosions ripped through multiple floors of both office buildings. As terrified employees on the lower floors scrambled to evacuate, miles away a third plane slammed into the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C. Before it could reach its intended target, a fourth plane nose-dived into a field in Pennsylvania, killing everyone aboard. Back in New York, onlookers watched in horror as one after another, the 110-story twin towers collapsed on the heads of rescue workers, firemen, and police officers. In just a matter of moments--before anyone really understood what was going on--thousands of lives had been lost. America was stunned. Nothing like this had ever happened in the history of the country, or even of the world. Politicians and pundits struggled to put the disaster in perspective, comparing it to such catastrophic events as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Oklahoma City Bombing. Others insisted that this was "the Pearl Harbor of the 21st century," a "new Day of Infamy." President Bush called the terrorist attacks "acts of war." An entire generation would now be asking each other, "Where were you on September 11?" I really don’t see a reason why you wouldn’t want to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I mean, not only was He the greatest human being to ever walk the earth, He’s everything that I want to strive for. He’s everything that anyone should ever want to strive for. You look at the things that He did. Everyone who’s on this earth was blessed because of Him. To come into this world and to deny Him the opportunity to have a relationship with you, is almost a slap in the face to Him.” His name is Sam Bradford.
