I Corinthians 12: 10 - "To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits..." One of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit is discerning of spirits. Why would be given the gift to discern spirits if we had no need to encounter them? It is wonderful that God in his infinite wisdom has seen fit to bless us with this gift. God pours out the Holy Spirit to us. He never intended for us to be left all alone in the world in darkness. The Holy Spirit is our light in the darkness. What is Spirit? Spirit is all that is beyond the physical. We are spirit; those who have crossed over are spirit; angels, guides and light beings are spirit; the energy of chi is spirit; divine beings are spirit; the essence of flowers and plants is spirit; soul is spirit; and the life force of all that exists is spirit. Spirit communicates through coincidences and synchronicities, visual stimuli, diverting your attention, auditory sounds and words, music both auditory and the music of nature, sensations, chills and touches, smells and tastes, animals in your awareness, plants that come into your thoughts, gemstones and colors that present themselves to you and anything or anyone who shows up in your life. Spirit may communicate for your protection, for healing, for personal development, for achieving specific goals, for fulfilling your divine purpose, for mending wounds and relationships, for teaching life lessons, for imparting wisdom and knowledge, for bringing balance and harmony, and for many other honorable purposes. We are willing to try almost anything available in order to be free of these unpleasant experiences. A life free of adversity is a blessing of great value. And adversity in our lives is of magnificent value. Adversity forces change and ultimately leads to personal growth, enlightened understanding and both physical and spiritual development. ... When we can allow rather than resist, we open ourselves to an impetus to enlightenment that nothing else can provide. Moving forward with grace and ease is accepting adversity with gratitude and peace. This is a class on mastering fear in your life. Healthy fear is our early warning system that guides us to make wiser decisions. A little healthy fear keeps us from making foolish mistakes. For example, it is healthy fear that prevents us from sticking our hand in an open flame and being burned. Unhealthy fear pushes us beyond what is beneficial for us into actions or the lack of action that impedes our personal progress. Unhealthy fear stifles or even paralyzes us with panic, irrational fear and anxiety. In the extreme example, unhealthy fear of fire might prevent us from being able to light a match, even in times of need.
