 So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:38:47

Memory is a cruel mistress. Y’see memory, when in perfect working order, can preserve those precious moments in life. When it doesn’t work, you watch So I Married an Axe Murderer again, not realizing how bad it is. It- Is---- So--- Bad- Cruel- Comedy of Crap *blows out candle* The film stars Mike Myers (Austin Powers, Wayne’s World) as Charlie and Stuart MacKenzie. He falls in love with Harriet Michaels, played by Nancy Travis. His best friend, a cop dressed like a pimp, Tony Giardino, is played by Anthony LaPaglia (Annabelle Creation). As the plot develops, it seems there is more to Harriet’s sister, Rose, than anyone led on, as played by Amanda Plummer (Pulp Fiction). There are some great cameos by Phil Hartman, Steven Wright, Michael Richards (pre-racist freakout), and Charles Grodin.  This week’s “Hidden Track” is OC45 with Lady Death. Be sure to follow them and check out their website, OC45sucks.com, for updates on the new album they are recording. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Legion (2010) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:33:21

This week’s film is Legion. No, not the X-Men TV show, Google! Please just let me finish my research so I can go to sleep! Anyway, the film stars Paul Bettany (Avengers: Infinity War, Manhunt: Unabomber, A Knight’s Tale) and was directed by Scott Stewart (Priest, Dominion, Dark Skies). The pair would team up twice within a year of each other for Legion and Priest, which make a pretty decent double feature. Bettany plays Michael, an angel who willingly transubstantiates to become a man and defy God to help save humanity.  Basically, Adrianne Palicki (Orville, John Wick, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), is pregnant with the next savior of humanity, but God wants to do the ol’ ctrl+alt+del on humanity and does not want the baby born. Instead, he sends a horde of angels to possess people and do his bidding.  Notable villains include Doug Jones (Hellboy, The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth) and Jeanette Miller (Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Voyager, Austin Powers). Miller plays Gladys, the seemingly sweet old lady, who lets the cast know that there is some divine tomfoolery about. Jones plays the bit part of a possessed ice cream man, which is sadly squandered, because it is visually impressive. Kevin Durand (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Vikings, 3:10 to Yuma) plays Gabriel, the sassy angel with bulletproof wings.  Lucas Black and Tyrese Gibson of the Fast & Furious franchise are in the film. One is kind of a racial stereotype and the other is named after a car, so there’s that.  This week’s Hidden Track is Twilight Creeps, with their song Night of the Demons. You can check them out at twilightcreeps.com, which has access to their facebook, twitter, Instagram, and youtube.  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  The Omen (1976) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:44:20

Do these boys know how to party or what? A movie about a spooky kid from the 70s? Quick kids! Put down your cellular phones with your instagrams and tune in to the talkies for this week’s review of The Omen!  The film was directed by Richard Donner (Superman, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon) and stars Gregory Peck (To Kill a Mocking Bird, Cape Fear, The Boys from Brazil). Peck plays Robert Thorn, who, while desperate to spare his wife’s feelings, tricks her into believing that Damien is their own son, who actually died shortly after being born. Harvey Spencer Stephens who played Damien, had a very minor acting career after the film, appearing in a TV movie, then having a cameo in the 2006 remake of The Omen as a reporter.  With the help of Keith Jennings, played by David Warner (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze, Star Trek VI, Star Trek V, Star Trek TNG, Tron) Thorn tries to discovery what happened to his son, who Damien really is, and how to undo the plot he has been unwittingly complicit in for the past five years. Oh, and we cannot forget Jerry Goldsmith’s Academy Award winning score!  This week's Hidden Track is Green Eyes by The Mammoths (https://themammothsmusic.com/; @the_mammoths).  The Void (2016) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:55:16

Just like you would at a cozy little bed and breakfast, the boys spend some time relishing in The Void this week. The film was written and directed by Astron-6 founders, Steven Kostanski (Bio-Cop, Leprechaun Returns, Clown) and Jeremy Gillespie (The Shape of Water, It, It: Chapter Two, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark).  Aaron Poole (X-Files, Forsaken) stars as Daniel Carter, a dejected cop, who comes into contact with his estranged wife, Allison, played by Kathleen Munroe (Supernatural, NCIS, The Dresden Files).  As the night unfolds, the characters find there is somethign far more nefarious in the burned down hospital than ashes. This week's "Hidden Track" is What You Can't See by Dark Serenity (https://open.spotify.com/artist/5XmDp9liund2Hd0TUC27bP; @darkserenityband).  The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie (1989) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:29:49

As a tie in to our event, Toxic Avengers #PodGame, we humbly submit our review of The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie. For those of you not following the announcements on instagram, Toxic Avengers #PodGame was Jake's idea to coincide with the release of Avengers: End Game, but with horror's favorite mutated monster hero: Toxie. Be sure to check out Cult Classic Mania (reviewing The Toxic Avenger), Gorelords (reviewing The Toxic Avenger Part II), Terror Trio (reviewing Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV), and Copulators Die First (reviewing episodes of Toxic Crusaders).  In this film, Toxie (Ron Fazio/ John Altamura) has a sumo duel with the Devil (Rick Collins), in a vague video game format, which involves the green winged beast being peed on. While that sounds awesome, it comes after a gauntlet of watching Toxie try to keep real jobs to pay eye surgery for his girlfriend, Claire (Phoebe Legere). This film and Part II were originally intended to be one film; however, given issues with the run time, the film was split. You can tell that there are filler scenes and some black magic trickery to stretch the plot like a lumpy Stretch Armstrong (or Vac-Man if you remember those).  While not the pinnacle of Llyod Kaufman's (Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, Class of Nuke 'Em High, Terror Firmer, Rocky) filmography, the film is definitely work the watch-- if only to get to the fourth installment. Also, the melt scene by Jerry Macaluso (Darkman, Mystery Men, Little Nicky) is surprisingly awesome.   This week's "Hidden Track" was graciously provided by Bat$hit!crazy (@batshitcrazy_band). Be sure to stay tuned after the episode to hear their song Ellen's Grave.  https://campsite.bio/cultclassicmania, https://linktr.ee/gorelords If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:35:01

Return of the Killer Tomatoes is so much fun, we invited a special guest, Rob Krosky, to join in the review this week. As far as the cast and crew’s credentials and careers, the only real noteworthy actors are George Clooney (From Dusk till Dawn, Return to Horror High, Batman & Robin) and John Astin (The Addams Family, Batman (no, seriously, he played The Riddler in 2 episodes). This film would later be adapted into a cartoon show called Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, which ran for just over one year, where Astin would reprise his role.  Be sure to follow us on Instagram, twitter, and youtube @slasherspod.  The Lost Boys (1987) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:48:00

What better movie to review when oldening than the one that promises eternal youth for bloodshed?! This week, we review The Lost Boys, starring Jason Patric as Michael, Mike, Mikey, Mikowski. His brother, Sam, is played by the late Cory Haim, while his mother is played by Academy Award Winner, Dianne Wiest (Edward Scissorhands, Hannah and Her Sisters). Horror veteran, Corey Feldman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Goones, Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter) plays Edgar Frog, half of Santa Carla's local vampire patrol. When Michael, Mike, Mikey, Michelangelo falls for Star, played by Jami Gertz (Sixteen Candles, Less than Zero, Solarbabies), he comes into the haunting gaze of the leader of the Lost Boys: David. David is played by Keifer Sutherland (24, Young Guns, Flatliners), who shockingly has the least lines of any major character in the film. You would never know it based on his performance.  The goons tackle trivia, give the main players nicknames, and rank the film against THE PANTHEON OF SLASHERS!!!  Street Trash (1987) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:33:15

While not a Troma film in name, Street Trash definitely fits the bill in spirit. This film is one of the most revered “melt movies,” spawning several imitators. Originally, director, James Muro Jr., created a 15-minute short film of the same name. He later teamed with his former professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and screenwriter, Roy Frumkes, to turn the gross out short into a feature film. Of note, Roy Frumkes played the pie face zombie in Dawn of the Dead, and his likeness can be seen on many posters for Street Trash, as the businessman soaked in yellow acid.  The basic plot revolves around a local dump and a ragtag group of miscreants and derelicts, all trying to get their hands on some Tenafly Viper. What they don’t know, is that this wine is made of something far worse than sour grapes, resulting in some tremendous effects.  While none of the actors went on to major onscreen success, director James Muro Jr. would later be the Steadicam operator for The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies, and Titanic. Sadly, he never returned to direct another feature film, only occasionally directing TV after Street Trash.  The film mainly stands out for its makeup effects, headed by Jennifer Aspinal. You may recall that Aspinal had worked on Toxic Avenger, Twisted Souls, and Spookies, before abandoning the horror genre to work on SNL and Mad TV.If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  The Running Man (1987) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:38:03

A schlocky action movie on your favorite horror movie podcast? Yup. Why? Because we felt like it. Also, this movie is based on a novella of the same name, written by Stephen King (under his Richard Bachman pseudonym). Also also, there is a murderer who wields a bladed hockey stick and literally epitomizes the name of this show.  Though it was released in 1987, it feels more like 1984, given the military state in power. The story follows Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, Total Recall) as Ben Richards, a man framed for the murder of innocent civilians because he would not comply with heinous orders from his superiors. After breaking free from prison, he kidnaps Maria Conchita Alonso (Predator 2, Scarface, Lords of Salem) as Amber Mendez, in order to get away. Richards is once again apprehended and thrown into a gameshow where the greatest prize one can win, is their own life. Richards and his friends are chased down by violent gladiators Sub Zero, Buzzsaw, Dynamo, Fireball, and kinda Captain Freedom (Jesse Ventura- Predator, The X-Files, Demolition Man).  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Ice Cream Man (1995) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:25:06

Ice Cream Man, a horror movie starring professionally unsettling, Clint Howard, whose face only a rich, talented older brother could love. Clint has been in the industry since he was two years old, ranging from The Andy Griffith Show to The Waterboy with Blubberella and Evilspeak in between. He even started a band called The Kempsters back in the 1980s. In this film, by a porn director attempting reformation, Clint's character kills David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London) with a waffle iron and gives a kid a case of Stockholm Syndrome with sprinkles on top.  If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Bonus- Leprechaun 4: In Space (1996) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:37:17

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Sure it’s a holiday about driving allegorical snakes out of Ireland and not debauchery, leprechauns, and lucky charms, but we figured there was no better way to celebrate than a bonus episode reviewing Leprechaun 4: IN SPACE!  Warwick Davis reprises his role as the titular leprechaun, in his quest to wed an alien princess and take over the galaxy. The film parodies Alien, Aliens, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Fly, and many others. While it is not art in its purest form, it is definitely worth the watch. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Leprechaun (1993) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:44:19

"Your luck just ran out," because Slashers is back with a new episode. This file stars a debuting Jennifer Aniston (Friends, Horrible Bosses, Quantum Leap), opposite Warwick Davis (Star Wars, Life's Too Short, Harry Potter, Willow). The film was written and directed by Mark Jones, a veteran of children's programing and it certainly shows in this film, which is more silly than scary. This film ultimately spawned numerous sequels, which range from "da hood," to da outer space. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Castle Freak (1995) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:41:23

It’s that time again, goons: another episode of whimsy, fart jokes, and gore. This week we review Stuart Gordon’s Castle Freak.  The film starts Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, both having starred in Re-Animator and From Beyond, also by Stuart Gordon. Combs (The Pit and the Pendulum, The Man with Two Brains, Frightmare) plays recovering alcoholic, John Reilly, who inherits an entire castle from an aunt he never knew. His wife, Susan, played by Crampton (Chopping Mall, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, You’re Next) is coming to terms with a tragic mistake John made nine months prior. While taking an inventory of the castle for liquidation, the Reilly family finds there is something much more nefarious than a wine cellar under their feet… This creature feature (which is strange to say, because the creature is a human man) is very loosely based on the H.P. Lovecraft story, The Outsider. Makeup effects were by Everett Burrell (Pan’s Labyrinth, Night of the Living Dead, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie), Mike Measimer (The Blob, Space Truckers, Demon Wind), and John Vulich (Cyborg, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Babylon 5).If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Carrie (1976) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 02:09:14

This film is based on the first novel written by acclaimed horror writer, Stephen King (IT, The Shining, 'Salem's Lot, Pet Sematary).  Brian De Palma (Dressed to Kill, The Untouchables, Phantom of the Paradise) was in the director’s chair for this production, leading a tremendous cast and meeting his future wife.   The film stars Academy Award Winner, Sissy Spacek, as the titular Carrie. Her mother, Margaret White, is played by Academy Award Nominee, Piper Laurie. A young John Travolta (Saturday Night Fever, Face Off, Phenomenon) plays the cruel Billy Nolan, while his scheming girlfriend, Chris Hargensen, is played by Nancy Allen (Robocop 1-3). P.J. Soles (Stripes, The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween) plays one of Chris’ lackeys with possible the worse bangs ever to grace the silver screen.  While undoubtedly less polarizing than The Shining, it does differ from the book, which we address. The essence remains the same across platforms (even the terrible musical): a bullied girl gets revenge using telekinesis.   If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com.  Blood Diner (1987) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:23:59

Originally conceived as a sequel to Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Blood Feast, the cult classic, Blood Diner, became its own frighteningly unique entity. The New York Times reviewed the film, stating plainly that “this is not a movie; it’s celluloid swill.” The plot is a tale as old as time, two idiots and a talking brain in a jar set out to resurrect an ancient Lumerian goddess. The parallels to Blood Feast are great as both films center around men harvesting the body parts of women to serve as the vessel for their goddess (Sheetar/ Ishtar). The film ambles around that plot interweaving a cast of characters including Little Jimmy Hitler, a devious chef/ ventriloquist, and club bouncer whose head gets bounced on by the wheel of a car.  In our continuing celebration of Women in Horror Month, we spotlight Jackie Kong, and her work in the director’s chair. We also highlight the tremendous effects work by Larry Arpin (Maniac Cop, Maniac Cop 2, and Maniac Cop 3), Loraiana Drucker (Friday the 13th Part VII, The Blob), and Michael Hyatt (Leprechaun). Sadly, most of the onscreen talent fell into obscurity, but the bumbling brother, George (Carl Crew) eventually did play Jeffrey Dahmer in The Secret Life of Jeffrey Dahmer.  Overall, the film could be the focal point of a five-episode movie review series as there is so much absurdity to analyze, scrutinize, and agonize over.
