Johnny Cash At The Carousel | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:00

Conversation & Stories About This “Lost” Live Album This episode is the story of a lost live album by the great Johnny & June Carter Cash, recorded shortly after the legendary Folsom Prison live album. The contrast in energy of these two nights is stark, and part of the discussion. The mood the night of the show was appropriately laid back for San Francisco. The Carousel Ballroom, which would shortly become the Fillmore (West), hosted the April 24, 1968 concert, and tape was rolling, as was the case when Owlsley Stanley was at the sound board. He recorded most shows that he mixed, which gives purpose to his foundation’s modern mission of preservation. This Cash album could do a lot of good in that area. Markus and Ray talk with William “Hawk” Semins and Pete Bell of The Owlsley Stanley Foundation, about this show, and their ongoing efforts to preserve this audio legacy! Then they’re joined by John Carter Cash, legendary producer and artist, and son of John and June! He gives the family legacy’s view of this show, among other things! An amazing way to explore this unexpected audio treat and to mark our 150th episode!!! Listen to this cool episode, and then get caught up here!!!  Redux: The Night John Lennon Died | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:00

Happy Xmas (War Is Over) This week, we present an encore episode from last year because sometimes it doesn’t get any better than that. 40 years (“now 41…”) after he was taken from us, John Lennon’s murder still hurts those of us who “remember where we were.” A few years ago, Ray did a short story telling of his experience surrounding December 8, 1980. It’s been one of our blog’s most popular pages. This week, we discuss, and we remember… This special presentation includes a song that has always served to lift spirits disheartened by this dark anniversary. Happy Imbalanced Xmas… Listen to this cool episode, and then get caught up here!!! Thanks to our sponsors, Crooked Eye Brewery for their support of the podcast!  Public Enemy: Number One! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:00

Making Americans Nervous For 40 Years! Coming together out of the fertile environment of Adelphi University and its college radio station, Public Enemy burst forth with a wall of power, a collective that changed Hip-Hop and helped forge an unholy alliance with Metal! Their song, “Fight The Power” played an actual role in Spike Jones’ “Do The Right Thing,” which put the group on the radar of a much wider audience. In this week’s adventure, we explore the band’s roots as a loosely associated group of artists who converge via WBAU, coalescing as The Bomb Squad, with unreal “solid work” being set off. It’s a rambling, veering off-kilter look at PE, who have been part of both Imbalanced Brothers’ musical life! Hats off to the samplers, the DJs scratchin’ it out, the MCs sayin’ it! Give it up for The Funky Drummer!!! Take time to learn stuff about stuff you already know stuff about! Listen to this cool episode, and then get caught up here!!!  Bessie & The Wolf | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:00

Profiles Of The Blues Profiles In The Blues is a new umbrella concept on the podcast! In the initial episode, the Imbalanced Brothers delve deeper into the subjects of Bessie Smith, The Empress Of The Blues, (who’s been mentioned before), and Chester Burnett’s alter ego, Howlin’ Wolf! She was The Empress Of The Blues, he was the Howlin’ Wolf, both amazing forces of musical nature in their own unique way! These two under-appreciated American artists are part of the legacy that this podcast was founded to spotlight. While there will be many more episodes in this arena, we invite you enjoy this ep, and then dig back for our stories, and three episodes, about Robert Johnson, if you find the time! Take time to learn stuff about stuff you already know stuff about! Listen to this cool episode, and then get caught up here!!!
