The Heath Mullikin Project

Summary: What's it like to raise 3 kids after losing your wife to a long-term disease? How does someone cope with the stress of life and ministry under these circumstances? This is the place to hear about the grace of God working in my life and my family one day at a time. I'm a work in progress and this is The Heath Mullikin Project.

I found some of Karen’s journals in her bedside table leading me to some reflective moments last night. What I found inside may surprise you. Karen’s full obituary has been posted. You can read it below: Karen Amo Mullikin of Westminster, SC passed away January 18, 2019 after a long battle with Huntington’s Disease.  She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Rev. Heath Mullikin, twin daughters, Milena (15) and Charis (15) and son, Drake (11).  She is also survived by mother, Nancy Hurst of Cherryville, NC, sisters Pam Amo of Westminster, SC, Rhonda Tate (Paul) of Cherryville, NC, brother, William Amo IV of Cherryville, NC and step-sister Amy Morley of Ogdensburg, NY.  She was greatly loved by her nieces and nephews, Chloe and Silas Tate, Olivia and Lena Mullikin, and William Amo V.  She was preceded in death by her father, William John Amo III and her step-father John Hurst. Karen grew up in Lisbon, NY where she played Soccer and Basketball at Lisbon Central School until her graduation in 1995.  She attended Southern Wesleyan University on athletic scholarships and helped found the women’s soccer team in 1996.  She graduated in December 1998 with a degree in Psychology.  She and Heath were married on August 21, 1999 at Central First Wesleyan Church where Heath served as youth pastor.  Their ministry took them to Chichester Wesleyan in Aston, PA, Denton Wesleyan in Denton, NC and finally to Oakway United Wesleyan where Heath began serving as Pastor in 2010.   While serving as a minister’s wife, Karen became a stay at home mom when her twin daughters were born in 2003 until her passing.  Being a stay at home mom was the dream and joy of her life.  She took time daily teaching her children the Bible and was a wonderful example of a Christ-like servant to them.  She was a loving wife, supporting her husband in his various ministries that took him around the country for various trips and engagements and also faithfully in the local church.  She loved to worship.  She loved to sing.  She loved to read the Bible and always had a Bible by her side until her passing.  When she passed peacefully, she was full of God’s love and surrounded by her loved ones.  She fought to the end and ran her race until the finish. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 26, from 2-4 pm at the Newton-Hobson Chapel at Southern Wesleyan University with the burial on Sunday at 2 pm at Oconee Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations at www.teammullikin.com as they decide how best to honor Karen’s life and legacy.  Davenport Funeral Home is handling all of the arrangements.  The family is at the home.

Each day gets a little bit easier and a little bit harder. Today the sun is up and the bed is made and Monday is ready to be tamed. Many are asking how they can help and the family has set up www.teammullikin.com for donations. Our funeral and medical expenses are taken care of, and we are still praying about ways to bless others and honor Karen. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. kofiwidget2.init('Support The Mullikins on Ko-fi', '#46b798', 'Q5Q2O1ID');kofiwidget2.draw();
