This week we watched the 50 year old The Lion in Winter, about the scheming large adult sons of the Plantagenet dynasty while they fight over who gets to inherit the throne. There are witty one-liners thrown around at a shocking speed.
This week we watched Ang Lee's 1995 version of Sense and Sensibility, starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman (RIP). The movie is honestly pretty good (even though it's a Jane Austen adaptation).
This week, as a continuation of Jane-uary, we watched one of TWO (that we know of) 1996 renditions of Emma. This one was a favorite of Lindsay's at one point, but on closer inspection... why? Listen to see where we come down on this one (spoiler: meh).
This is another episode we're publishing as part of our "fire sale" to clear out all the episodes we recorded in 2017. In this one, we talk about one of our favorites: Sofia Coppola's beautiful Marie Antoinette.
This movie is perfect, period. Or at least Cate Blanchett's performance in it is. And her lewks and costumes. Get into it with us while we watch one of our all-time faves.
We had a good time re-watching Behind the Candelabra sometime last fall... Even though we recorded this episode ages ago, it somehow got pushed out, which is a shame, because it's a good one.
This week we tried to make some piece with Jane Austen by watching the 2005 Keira Knightley version of Pride and Prejudice. Mixed results ensue.
We're ending Bec the Halls month on a real classic. The only things I'd add is MORE Rebecca Hall and MORE David Bowie.
This week we watched the incredibly underwhelming (but available on Netflix!) A Promise. Despite the excellent cast, including our girl Rebecca Hall, Alan Rickman, and Richard Madden, this one was... not our favorite.
Starter for 10 is honestly such a good, relaxing, no-worries time. Treat yourself to an hour and a half of low-stakes 80s goofs in these trying times. It'll do you good.
This week, let's take a look at the Bechdel test-failing Frost/Nixon. At the end of this episode, we say the next week will be Behind the Candelabra, but we're rearranging the order a bit. Bear with us.
Hold onto your bonnets, y'all. This one is extra scary. Happy Halloween!
This week we watched a scary BBC production starring our girl Rebecca Hall, a young Bran Stark, and a few other notable folks. We highly recommend viewing this one before listening to the episode.
Guillermo Del Toro's spooky Crimson Peak taught us many lessons, but none are quite as important as this: when a creepy skeleton ghost warns you, LISTEN to her.
To kick off our string of spooky episodes for Halloween, this week we watched the zillionth Depp-Burton-Bonham-Carter collabo effort, Sweeney Todd.
