Trevor Lawrence and Clemson stayed ahead of Tua Tagovailoa and Alabama, Jake Fromm and Georgia, and Joe Burrow and LSU. Bo Nix and Auburn remain unbeaten. Oklahoma Sooners coach Lincoln Riley is a dynamic recruiter. But he is not recruiting on the level of Oregon coach Mario Cristobal, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney or Alabama coach Nick Saban.
Even as Oklahoma was in the midst of a run of seeing eight Sooners selected in the 2019 edition of the NFL Draft, OU coach Lincoln Riley found time to recruit. The man who hasn’t even hit his three-year anniversary as head coach at OU was out on the draft carwash like he was an up-and-coming offensive coordinator at a directional school when he was told on live national TV he had one minute to sell former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson on playing at OU. "Well, we're not going to need 60 seconds," Riley said. "Nate, have you watched the last two drafts?” As if he needed to emphasize the point, Riley acted out dropping the mic in a move heard ‘round the interwebs that heralded a run unseen before at OU. Following quarterback Kyler Murray being selected No. 1 overall, making OU just the second program in history to see back-to-back No. 1 overall picks selected in the draft and the first to have quarterbacks selected No. 1 overall in consecutive years, former wide receiver Marquise Brown was selected in the first round. The Sooners have seen eight first round picks selected in the draft since 2010.
