Today is the 5 year anniversary of my brother John’s passing, and I wanted to share his story in long form. This is a bonus episode, so bear with me as I take my time, and talk about some funny stories growing up, share his never quit attitude, and why his life was a gift. John was my older brother by 3 years, and passed away at 36 from stage 4 colon cancer. I wanted a place to share his story and legacy so anyone could get to know him. I’m also sharing this for anyone who has walked through hard things like: Tragic Car AccidentsTraumatic Brain InjuryStrokeLosing a Child, Sibling, or ParentBeing a Caretaker I talk about being teased as a kid, the crazy dares he used to make me do, how he persevered and obtained a masters degree with a brain injury, and even finding the love of his life, his wife Bonnie. In today's episode, Matt Brauning sits down with Dave Nassaney, a caregiver, caregiver advocate, best-selling author, speaker, and entrepreneur. Dave states that his most important role in life has been serving as a caregiver to his lovely wife Charlene. Twenty-two years ago, Charlene suffered a massive stroke that left her severely speech impaired and paralyzed on the right side. This incident led to Dave's personal journey of becoming a caregiver and it has led to his advocacy for other caregivers.  For some background, here are a couple little-known stats about caregivers:  30% of caregivers actually die before their loved ones.  40-61% of caregivers have felt down, depressed, and hopeless just over the last two weeks. Caregivers often spend so much time caring for others that their own needs are neglected. In today's episode, Matt sits down with Chad Ridgely, a comedian, writer, filmmaker, and entrepreneur. Chad will share about his start in the entertainment industry including his studies at the famous Groundlings Comedy School in Los Angeles. Chad always had the vision of becoming an actor and working in Hollywood, but he has a very interesting story where he took a major detour from that path in college. After being cast in a film to play a police officer, Chad did a few ride alongs with the local police and became infatuated with their work. In a sudden shift, he changed his major to Criminal Justice and then spent the next 10 years working as a cop. He had a lot of success in the police field, but always kept his passion in the area of entertainment. After a decade in law enforcement, he returned to Los Angeles to resume his passion. Since returning to Los Angeles, he has written two feature films, landed a pilot show with Fox, and become a stand up comic. Chad's two movies are both in the comedy-horror genre and are titled "6:66pm" and "Massacre on Isle 12."
