Positive Alternatives 5 Minute Thoughts - Illinois has put a law in place, to take effect July 1, 2019, that is intended to deter texting and driving. More than fines will be given to the driver, it could lead to a suspension of driving privileges. Maybe now we won't have to sit at the red light, waiting until the person in front of you sends their very important message. Or much worse, crashes into the back of your car while traveling at high speeds.

Jonathan was our first born child. He died on June 17, 2005 after he attended and Underage Drinking party in Carol Stream Illinois. The divers searched the water behind the townhouse where the party was held for four long days. In this episode I share with you the same story I share each month with the first time offenders. The point is to tug at their heart strings to get them to not make the mistake a second time. It's not fun to do but....it is a necessary effort.

We also know that college is the big test to see if your teen learned all of the lessons you have taught them for so many years. Have the tough conversation about alcohol and drugs, and then repeat it. Temptation looms. 

Temptation is always there. It is a difficult foe to master. It is even harder when we are tempted while in large groups of others who already are succumbing to the temptation you wish to avoid. And the teens in DUI court who are sentenced are simply making the same mistakes that prior generations have made. Nothing new, just a song that remains the same. The necessity?
