Today we continue our military month as we talk with Chief Petty Officer Wayne Papalski of the US Navy. The Chief is a senior member of the the very small Navy Search and Rescue Helicopter Corpsman (SMT) community which makes him one of our most unique members. We get a chance to discusses his relationship with ECHO-Military, his work with the Joint Trauma System Committee on Enroute Combat Casualty Care, and his recent humanitarian mission in response to Hurricane Dorian.

ECHO’s Military Director, Jamie Eastman interviews Flight Paramedic and Standardization Instructor, US Army SGT. Joel Coelho. Sgt. Coelho talks about what his role is on both the civilian and the military side. They will discuss the details on deployment and other items pertaining to his role as a Standardization Instructor.

Today we have the privilege to talk with SSG Jamie Eastman, ECHO’s Military Director. Jamie is recently returned from a year long deployment to the middle east and we get a chance to talk about that experience, lessons learned during the run up to his deployment and his plans for a military symposium at our spring 2020 event (details coming very soon).

We are revisiting our ECHO conference from Philadelphia hosted by JeffStat! Dr. Ben Lawner, medical director for Allegheny Lifeflight and EMS and emergency physician, presents his talk on advanced airway techniques and some clinical advice on improving success with different types of advanced airways. 

This week we again head back to wild and wonderful West Virginia and Camp ECHO to hear Joey Loehner of Humboldt General Hospital present on normalization of deviance and safety in our industry. We believe that everyone comes out of flight academy 110% focused on safety but what do we do after 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, or 10 years? Joey addresses dealing with the issues of overcoming complacency and developing a safety mindset within your team.

In this episode, we are joined by the new ECHO Future Flight Crew Director, Shane Turner and the new ECHO Future Flight Crew Medical Director, Dan Rauh. Today we head back to Camp ECHO for the second half of the Critical Care Panel. The Camp ECHO panel was one of our largest and most diverse to date and we were thrilled to have such amazing panel members join us. In this second installment, the panel discusses how to deal with a hemodynamically unstable trauma patient, fluid resuscitation, airway management and utilizing TXA. After the panel concludes, we continue the discussion over some drinks and bring you with us!

Today we once again head back to Camp ECHO for the first half of the Critical Care Panel. The Camp ECHO panel was one of our largest and most diverse to date and we were thrilled to have such amazing panel members join us. In this first installment the panel discusses how to deal with a difficult “sending doc”, is there ever a patient that is too sick for transport, airway management in the hemodynamically unstable patient, goal of resuscitation, and the nuance managing the acutely ill patient.

Today we hear an interview that was done during Camp ECHO with two physicians who have been helping with ECHO since its inception. Dr. Lewis Rubinson of the University of Maryland Medical Center and Dr. Ben Lawner of the Allegheny Health Network. Both these gentlemen have been big supporters of ECHO and we get a chance to talk candidly to them over a few beers about why the have chosen to support ECHO, what they see as the future of HEMS, and Prehospital medicine.

This week we head back to Camp ECHO to hear flight medic Josh Piotrowski of Erlanger LifeForce. Josh provides a clear and precise outline to confidently answer the old adage of “right patient, right drug”. Every patient is different and no patient deserves a “same pressor, every time” approach to hypotensive treatment. Josh wants all of us to be better providers and be critical care ready.

Today we again head back to Camp ECHO in WV to hear Jacob Miller from the Cleveland Clinic discuss the latest evidence on all things resuscitation.

Today we are doing a “Go Around” and revisiting one of our earliest podcasts. This interview with Fred Jeffries a clinical educator and flight paramedic with Boston Medflight is one of our favorite interviews we have ever done. Fred discusses key components for orientation and continuing education as it relates to flight crew personnel. Fred brings an extensive background to the table when it comes to clinical education and has a true passion for it.

Today we have the pleasure of talking to Dr. Phil Nawrocki and Dr. Matt Poremba of Alleghany LifeFlight in western Pennsylvania. We disuses push does vasopressors which they recently published on, Whole blood, TXA, and how they employ then at their program.

We again head back to Camp to hear Flight Nurse Robin House’s talk on toxicology in the HEMS environment. Robin offers a down and dirty look at some the most common toxicology emergencies we could potentially face and how best to manage them in the pre-hospital environment.

On this episode of the rotor-wash podcast Brian and Sam sit down with Dr. Lewis Rubinson to discuss advanced ventilator management in the asthma patient. Dr. Rubinson who has been a supporter of ECHO since its inception, is a Professor of Medicine in the Program in Trauma at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Vice President and Deputy Chief Clinical Officer at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC).
