 Opiates - The Pinball Effect | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:16

Substituting one drug for another only leads to more problems and doesn't solve the problem for which drugs or alcohol became the solution. Life happens. Deal with it.

The Opioid Epidemic - It's Not Just for the Homeless | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:08

Addiction by Any Other Name | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:09

It is a disservice to call someone an addict.  That, in fact, labels the person and also puts a stigma on the person.  What do you think of when someone is referred to as an addict?  Do you see the dirty, decrepit person down on the street corner shooting up? Well, the reality is that addicts today are from well to do families.  They are the high school students, college students and co-workers that you think are perfectly happy and drug or alcohol free.

Crystal Meth - Not So Much the Underachiever | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:52

There is so much attention on opioids now with the deaths occurring on a regular basis, that crystal meth is being ignored.  The problem is that the use of crystal meth is becoming more and more widespread with the easy access coming from Mexico. What to look for?  How to do drug tests on your loved one if you suspect that he or she is using.

Drug Addiction is not Discriminatory | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:36

Drug addicts are stereotyped as poor (and how you could be poor and do drugs is a mystery); illiterate and amoral.  While morals may be an issue in that addicts make decisions that are questionable as regards morals, it doesn't matter what someone's income level is, their education level, their intelligence or their religion - they can become addicted to drugs.

Saying No to Drugs - Are you Educating your Kids? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:10

If there's one conversion you have to have with your children it is about drugs.  It is about the prevalence of drugs in our society and that it's not enough to avoid the man on the street corner selling cocaine and heroin.  You have to NOT take the highly addictive pain killers and anti-depressants and mood enhancers prescribed by your friendly family doctor. People are walking out of the dentist's office with prescriptions for Oxycontin which is a highly addictive opioid.

Enabling or Helping, NOT the same thing. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:57

If you're an addict and you need help, sometimes what you get from your friends and family is more enabling than actual help.  And if you're the friends and family of an addict, you want to help but may not always know how to do that.  As always, this podcast gives help and hope to addicts and those who care for them. There is help available and if someone you know is an addict, you should never ever stop helping.

 Derek's Story - A Mother's Persistence | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:19

This is the story of Derek - a handsome and friendly young man.  He started on drugs at age 12 when he was introduced to marijuana.  He was an athlete - a wrestler - and a good student.  He progressed throughout his high school year to heroin via Percocet and Oxycontin.  He went to college on wrestling scholarship but lost it due to repeated injuries.  Began using cocaine and more heroin after several rehab attempts.

 Synthetics are NOT a Solution | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:28

The current mentality and methodology for treating drug addiction is to substitute a "less dangerous" drug for the one addicted to.  It's a "drug for drug" mentality and it's stupid.  We don't mince words in this podcast.  If you think you can handle addiction to heroin by switching to methadone or suboxone, you are dreaming or delusional - take your pick. Drugs are not the problem.

When Help Fails | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:11

The standard 28 day rehab program often fails.  When you consider that someone did not become addicted in 28 days - it took years upon years of scaling up to full on addiction - it doesn't make sense that a person can become clean in 28 days.  However, 28 days is what insurance will pay for and so standard rehab programs are 28 days.  When parents and loved ones come to Narconon for help, they often ask if rehab works.

Can Drug Rehab Cure Pain? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:45

A large percentage of people addicted to drugs started on pain killers for some sort of pain.  The thing is that the drugs can exacerbate the pain and add to it and cause it to get worse.  Listen to the stories of how the Narconon program helped people overcome not only drug addiction - but the pain which started the whole "drugs as a solution" cycle.  One woman was suffering from fibromyalgia pain and now is pain free.
