This week we talk to a long time listener of the show, Leeroy Reading, from Big Rock Timberworks. He’s out on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and in the process of moving into his first commercial space. We talk through how he came up, and how he’s making the transition.
It’s been a few weeks since our last episode, Robin’s been unwell and the clocks changed for Bryan and Joey. But we’re back again and catching up on what we’ve been doing. And Joey made a table out of purple heart!
In a Shop Stool Podcast first, we talked to a kiwi woodworker this week! Jem Culpitt started his woodworking career as a hobbyist and after a couple of bunkbeds it all took off. In this episode he runs through his seemingly ideal rise from weekend warrior to full time woodworker.
It’s been months but Robin finally published a new video. We also have a new way of supporting the show, inspired by a very generous listener.
Tonight we’re joined by Ross Williamson, from the north west of Brisbane. He’s a woodworker that, after some indecision in direction, came around to being an accomplished furniture maker supplying clients across the south east. He’s won awards for his pieces and even ran the gauntlet in a critiquing session hosted by some of Australia’s top woodworkers.

Hosted by Robin Lewis (RobinLewisMakes), Joey Chalk (King Post Timber Works), and Bryan Cush (Sawdust Bureau). Tom Morton, from Bootleg Studios, joins us on the show to walk us through how he makes his unique cold bent steel furniture. It has an incredibly unique style and he’s got an amazing website concept to show it off!

We get into a whole bunch of different topics and Joey drops some exciting news at the end.
Simeon Dux is a renowned woodworker in the Melbourne circles. This episode he joins us for a chat and goes through some of the design elements of his work. Be sure to check out his website for some amazing bookcases!
Making a mistake on a client commission can be devastating, and sometimes it wasn’t even your fault. But if it came out of YOUR workshop, with YOUR logo on the invoice, then it’s always YOUR mistake. We have a chat about how to deal with this, and we also talk about Joey’s exciting future plans.
We take a look at the leading hardware supplier in Australia and why they’ve been so successful. Bryan shares some of his thoughts on their practices while Robin airs his thoughts on Bunnings bashsers.
Our first guest of the season hails from Melbourne and she’s an amazing woodworker and all round great person to meet. Alexsandra Pontonio is a renowned furniture maker who has worked on projects that appeared on The Block TV series and helped setup a workshop in Arnhem Land.
It’s only the second episode so we decided to use it for more catch up (it was a long break alright). So we talk car ports, protecting IPs, and how to paint like the pros.
We’re back with a new season, after a long break and a false start. Here’s what’s been happening over the past few months. It’s great to be back!
It's almost over, there's only a few weeks left in 2020. In this show we go through some of our favourite episodes and talk about what's coming up in 2021.
