A true New Yorker, Vin relocated last year to Los Angeles to focus on music. Since then he’s pulled from his musical roots and created his distinctive sound, a combination of throwback 90s R&B vibes, house music, and sexy soul whose songwriting spotlights experiences of heartbreak and growth. His mix for November is a blend of tracks he loves as well as cuts from his debut EP ‘Head Above Water’. November is here, come and gone is the insane US election season, and after a week off we’ve got a new episode for you all. The first podcast for this month comes from talented Spanish-born duo Apartment One, made up of Xander Oliver and DJ V. With releases on Guatemalan label Danzon Records, as well as a resume of top-notch venues under their performance belts, these Spaniards are looking to make 2017 the year folks take notice. Their Subdrive podcast begins with beautiful jazz and latin influences, weaving in and out of deep and jackin house heavy with percussion. For the end of October we’ve got one of our good friends, the uber talented NYC producer, DJ, and multiple-label owner Alexander Technique. Between touring around the world, curating and discovering talent for labels, and his own original tracks, Technique is a multi-faceted talent. His discography includes collaborations and releases with legends and hustlers alike such as Todd Terry, Roland Clark, Klienfeld, Shawnee Taylor, Gina Turner, Harry Romero, Arthur Baker, Michael Moog, Inaya Day, and many others. The end of 2016 and the rest of 2017 sees him releasing new music on Todd Terry’s new techno label Terminator Records as well as launching his own hard techno-focused imprint SEDUCER Recordings. With that context, it makes sense that Technique’s mix for Subdrive, delivered fresh from his trip to ADE in Amsterdam, is one hour of deep and hard techno showcasing the aforementioned original productions, upcoming collaborations, and Subdrive alumni. October’s first podcast comes from @killkartel, a tech entrepreneur and former athlete who decided to focus on making music in 2011 after surviving an accident that almost took his life. Fast forward to 2016 and Kill Kartel runs a new label called Electronic Animals and has launched a regular mix series featuring musical works from a variety of artists staying away from the mild mainstream sounds. Almost reflecting the season’s changes, Kill Kartel’s October podcast blends deeper and techier sides of house that slowly peak, wind, and twist over the course of his one hour mix. Since starting Subdrive in 2005 as a college radio show in Brooklyn, to launching the label and collective in 2009, (Ricardo) Galbis has tirelessly championed fresh electronic music and artists through our events, releases, and collaborations. The label has served as the home for the early careers of artists such as @mikemago @curlup @figure with support from acts such as Diplo, MSTRKRFT, Horse Meat Disco, among others. His mix opens with the sounds of the caribbean rainforest, leading into a slowly building arrangement of tracks with a focus on melancholic sounds, beautiful vocals, deep basslines, and sharp synths. Quickly emerging as a tasteful and varied selector in NYC, her first year of DJing has seen her opening for Nicky Siano, and found her a home at Fixed, sharing bills with Paul Raffaele, Red Axes, Marcus Marr, Pional, Tensnake, and Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy. Her passion for genre-bending music can be heard in her podcast for Subdrive, blending and mixing her ever-growing record collection ranging from ambient, fusion & crossover jazz, latin grooves, afrobeat, left-field, house and soulful disco delights. Working in several facets of the music industry, Alan decided to focus on his own artist career a few short years ago and has been throwing regular parties in NYC hosting artists like WOLF Music, Max Graef, Iron Galaxy, Fred Everything, Man Power and more. With the A Running Melody party and mix series, Alan and his brother Andrew wanted to give forward thinking artists a platform to showcase the music that influences them and drives them to push their creative boundaries. So it’s fitting that our latest mix comes from another New York resident DJ and producer, Luka Tacon. Luka cut his teeth in the NY indie rock and dance scene, while slowly drifting deeper into the underground electronic world. As one of the founding members of NYC collective The Deep, Luka and his crew have been throwing down house cuts until the early morning across the city for some time now, including their own "Brooklyn summer staple" Might Get Weird parties. For his Subdrive mix Luka has compiled a selection of fresh tracks that reflect his eclectic taste in deeper house, techno, and disco. The set paints a picture of the vibe you can expect at one of his parties here in New York, whether it’s on a rooftop, a club, or the back of a fried chicken spot in Brooklyn.
