The OSSB end of the year podcast is packed with tons of exciting events and activities. We talk with Mrs. Z’s class and catch up with hot diggety dog. Our principal Mr. Ransey stops in and recaps this school year. Emily shares her end of the year project. WE hear from students and staff about swimming and forensics conference. We visit our annual art festival put on by the elementary department. Girls on the Run was a huge success and Jana shares her story. Mr. Rheinhard, former principal, joins us during teacher appreciation week. Spanish students go shopping using shopping lists written in Spanish and eat a yummy Mexican lunch. We’ll hear about our first ever adult blind sports clinic held at OSSB. There were plenty of end of the year activities, the braille picnic, the ILS picnic, Bowling, a baseball game, track and field day and much more. Most importantly on this podcast, we talk with every senior who is graduating. Also alumni Chris Harington graduated from Ohio Dominican and he had the honor of being the senior speaker and we will share it here. Mr. Wagner shares the many successes of after school programming this year. WE conclude this month’s podcast with the end of the year rap. This rap has some special guests, so stay tuned. Our Aware group presents on “being you” and strategies for acceptance in our school community. We are excited to demonstrate some new equipment that will help the podcast sound a whole lot better. Mr. Kelley’s classes present some research on the beeping Easter egg. We hear some exciting news from our deputy state superintendent Dr. John Richard about the leadership for the school for the blind and Dr. Lou Maynus discusses her role as interim superintendent and future plans. Corey grandstaff from the Washington School for the Blind, an alumnist of OSSB, talks to Mr. Kelley’s fifth period career class. Julia brings us the activities calendar for April and May. We begin our senior showcase by having seniors reflect on their time at OSSB and discuss their future plans. And it is prom season, so Emily sits down with Mrs. Parish to discuss plans for this years prom on May 9. We conclude this months podcast with coverage of the Walkathon where OSSB is helping to raise money for Partners in Conservation at the Columbus Zoo to provide aid for people and animals in Rwanda. This month on the podcast we travel to the CloverNook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Cincinnati, Ohio to hear about the Braille Challenge. We listen to excerpts from the Little NC pep rally held on March 7. Our little NC squad traveled to the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired to compete in wrestling, cheerleading, swimming and goalball. We hear from Jeff Ransey who works in the Conservation department at the Columbus Zoo. And why does OSSB have a chocolate fair every year? Stay tuned and find out. You will hear information about the alumni reunion taking place on the OSSB campus the first weekend in June. We catch up with some alumni and see what they are up to these days and we talk about bell Camp happening here on campus in July put on by the Ohio Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind. Andre and Mrs. Smith visit the OSU College of Optometry and conduct an informative reach and teach activity. We look at some new technology coming on the market for the blind and visually impaired with a visit from Jim Sullivan from Humanware. He discusses the features of the new BrailleNote Touch Plus. 3d printing is becoming ever so much more popular and OSSB is using 3d-printing in the model club with help from experts from see3d. See3D is designed to connect people who enjoy 3D printing with their visually impaired neighbors. Low vision and blind individuals can request models to give new meaning to words that some students have never been able to understand. We conclude this month’s podcast with another listen-in on a reach and teach activity with our students and the O&M department. In the February 2019 edition of the OSSB podcast, we honor our own, Mr. Phil Northrop. He has dedicated 35 years to teaching students with visual impairments as an orientation and mobility instructor. Mr. Northrop retires February 28. We talk to some of OSSB student council representatives at our Valentine’s day dance. Mr. Lee brings us up to speed with Little NC wrestling and goalball. Mr. Sam Seabay, the main screen talent of the Blind Life on Youtube visits us. He is very interested in the models of historical monuments and places we have at OSSB. Andre will talk about Martin Luther King Jr. Students are working hard to get ready for the Braille Challenge at Clovernook on March 1. We celebrate Louis Braille’s birthday and World Braille Day. Cheerleaders and wrestlers travel to The Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jackson, Illinois for the NCASB championship. Noah Beckman joins us on the Alumni focus. Miss Honse is working with a class on planning and budgeting, so we will hear about their trip to Bob Evans. The after school programs has a lot to offer our students in fun and creative ways. The month of December is a fabulous fun filled time at the Ohio State School for the Blind. On this episode of the podcast we will share many of these activities. Our ILS department prepared many tasty treats to exchange with one another. Our art classes visited an art museum to check out the work of Queen Brooks. Some of our students sang Christmas carols at Wesley Glen retirement home, and the Columbus Northern Lions club returns to host its 60th holiday party for elementary students. Andre composed and produced a holiday story about how the Evil Mr. Kelley tries to steal Christmas. Principal Ransey talks about the representation of OSSB at the state house. Can Andre devour the Thurmanater? We will see. Our alumni focus this month is the group Innervision. We meet another hard working OSSB staff member who works at the front desk and all over campus. Our October OSSB podcast is packed with all kinds of exciting news and events that have taken place in and around the Ohio State School for the Blind. Our elementary students traveled to the Kentucky school for the blind for the Bill Roby track and field day. Nick and Perseus will share their memories of that day. October 7 OSSB students and staff participated in the 9th annual orthopedic spirit Sprint 5k to raise money to support student activities at ossb. White cane day was filled with all kinds of excitement. We will meet Doug Payne. He works for Microsoft and is visually impaired himself. Our alumni focus this month is Alex Crawford. Alex graduated in 2017 and straight out of the gate of OSSB he will give us his prospective as a full-time student who also has a part-time job. Our goalball team is gearing up on the court for the ncasb championship in November. We cap off the month with some halloweenish activities. It is always fun to get a little candy and it is fun to retell a ghost story or 2.

We meet some students from Mrs. Butler’s class and Mrs. Picard’s sixth period class. Coach Heath gives us a track update as the guys and girls track team prepares for track conference. The Columbus Zoo visits OSSB with some animals. Matt Cromer a graduate of 2009 is our alumni focus. He talks about what he has been up to and his connection with the Easter Seals in Cincinnati, Ohio. Some of our seniors visit the original campus of the School for the Blind to learn about architecture and design. Andre and Aujanee interview Beth Slade from Leader dogs for the Blind. Welcome to the End of the School Year Podcast at the Ohio State School for the Blind. Students really wanted to amp it up a little and do some exciting end of the year things for you, the listener. We talk with a few of our graduating seniors, We interview some new students who started OSSB during the 2017-18 school year. Mr. Kelley’s fifth period class will present their individual podcast articles complete with music and sound effects. We’ll hear about the catering programs at the school for the blind and the school for the deaf combine to put on a great lunch for Ohio educators. Andre and Latrell interviewed Mr. Kelley. And Principal Mr. Ransey, as you will hear, turned the tables on the podcast team when they wanted to interview him. The students who take ILS and Braille had a picnic and the podcast team was there to cover that event. Mr. Kelley presents alumni focus “360” and talks with Ryan Chandler, a recent grad of OSSB. We go behind the scenes at John Glen airport with the O&M staff and juniors and seniors.
