 Episode 31 - Team Building | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:35:20

This week Kelly got to play some board games at work - and on company time! Her manager wanted to do some team building exercises, and rather than pay some consultant thousands of pound to go build rafts in a field they got to play some board games in the comfort of the office. We discuss the different types of games that could be effective for team building - and maybe some types you would want to avoid! We also have our usual discussion of what we have been playing in the week including 12 Days- a Christmas themed game as well as Sagrada and NMBR 9, two little puzzle games Becky is obsessed with. In case you hadn't noticed Christmas is coming! Now is the time to start thinking about what gifts to buy friends and family and what is more magical than the gift of board games. We discuss who to buy games for (and who not to) and even recommend a game or two! We also discuss what we have been playing this week including Descent, Tokaido and Android: Netrunner. We also discuss some of the games we played in the week including Province, Saboteur 2 and New Angeles. Apologise for this weeks audio issues, I really should learn how to us our microphone.

 Episode 28 - Board Game Sommelier | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:35:43

Firstly - apologies for the audio on this weeks episode, my computer is currently on its last legs and crashed midway through editing doing some damage to the track. We might sound a bit distant in places but you should still be able to hear us! This week we were invited round a friends for dinner and instead of being asked to 'bring a bottle' we were asked to bring a board game! I'm sure most people who are into the hobby and have a collection of board games are asked on occasion to recommend a board game, or perhaps select a board game for a certain occasion. We discuss some of the thoughts that go into selecting or recommending a board game for others and how we have honed this skill over time. We also have our usual discussion of games we have played in the week including the Goonies Adventure card game, Pandemic and Werewords. If you want to hear more from us or find out more about the podcast checkout our website boardgamesinbed.com for links to social media and for more great podcasts check out insidevoicenetwork.com

 Episode 27 - Negotiation Games | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:40:00

Following plays of New Angeles and Chinatown, this week we are discussing negotiation games. We discuss how both games use negotiation as a mechanic as well as looking a some real world negotiation tips and see if we can apply these to board games - is it possible to get a win-win when there can only be one winner? We also discuss some other games we played in the week including One Night Ultimate Alien, Go nuts for Donuts and New York Slice. Stay tuned till the end of the episode as well for details of how to enter the Inside Voices Network competition to win a copy of Stop Thief by Restoration Games. Check out our website boardgamesinbed.com for more details on the competition and links to our social media if you want to get in touch!

 Episode 26 - Socialising with Games | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:33:37

This week we are questioning how board gaming affects how we socialise, discuss the pros and cons of socialising around board gaming and question if we always need to game in social situations? As usual we also discuss some of the games we have played this week including the Great Dinosaur Rush, Kingdom Builder, Oh my Goods and a mini star realms tournament we had this week.  Episode 25- Can Board Games be Scary? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:37:23

It's nearly Halloween, that most magic of time when I start scanning the collection for something 'Spooky' to play with my friends. The trouble is; despite themes of zombies, ghouls and ghosts, board games aren't exactly scary. This week we discuss why we don't board games scare us - and what they could do to be more frightening! We also have our weekly discussion about what we have played including (fittingly) a 10 round game of Dead of Winter the long night and (less fittingly) Rhino Hero: Super Battle If you want to catch up with us during the rest of the week check us out on twitter (@boardgamesinbed) or search for us on Instagram and Facebook.  Episode 24 - Sportsmanship | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:37:10

This weeks discussion gets a little heated as we discuss sportsmanship in board games. Kelly and I have on occasion accused each other of being sore losers and poor winners in gaming. This week we discuss what makes someone a bad loser or a bad winner and what they could do to modify their behaviour. We also have our usual discussion about games we have played in the week including Isle of Skye, Blank and One Night Ultimate Werewolf. If you want to catch up with us in the mean time check us out on twitter (@boardgamesinbed) or search for us on Instagram and Facebook.  Episode 23 - Battlestar Galactica | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:51:56

This week we have our very first (hopefully) human guest- our good friend Chris! Kelly and I met Chris through playing Battlestar Galactica, which now (along with Chris) is one our favourites! This weeks episode is solely discussing Battlestar Galactica including why we love it, why other games in the genre haven't replaced it for us and discussing our recently completed campaign game created by Chris!  Episode 22 - Cult of the new... to me | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:33:07

This week we are talking about Cult of the New ... to me. Inspired by a recent blog post by Dave Roy, https://dudetakeyourturnblog.wordpress.com/2017/09/08/cult-of-the-new-to-me/, we discuss how it a game doesn't necessarily have to be the latest hotness to get our interest, rather it just has to be new to us. As always we also discuss what we played in the week including Survive Escape from Atlantis, Incan Gold, Blank and Harry Potter Clue(do). Check out our website Boardgamesinbed.com for links to all our social media to hear more from us in the week. We also belong to the inside voices network so check out insidevoicesnetwork.com for more great board gaming podcasts!

 Episode 21 - Co-operative Games | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:34:33

Its been a poor week for gaming with us only squeezing in two games all week. But whilst I haven't had time to game- I have had plenty of time to listen to podcasts. So instead of our usual 'what we played this week' discussion (and in honour of International Podcast day) I list and briefly discuss some of my favourite gaming podcasts. Pillow talk returns this week and this time we are discussing Co-op games. We discuss why we like them, that pesky Alpha gaming issue and how luck plays a role in our games. Pandemic comes up a lot.  Episode 20 - The poorly episode | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:32:25

We are back! We have been away for two weeks on our honeymoon road tripping round California which has left us very little time to play games but enough time for me to pick up a cold, so we are skipping the pillow talk this week. We do talk about Arboretum, Bohnanza, Liars Dice and Paperback as well as the practicalities of playing board games on a plane, the IOS games we played on the plane instead and my mother favourite games! Apologies for an coughs or sniffles I missed in the editing process, hopefully we will be back to full health next week! In the mean time if you want to keep up with our physical health or anything else about us in the week follow us on the social media platform of your choosing: twitter @boardgamesinbed, Instagram (boardgamesinbed) or facebook (search for board games in bed).  Episode 19 - Why aren't board games more mainstream? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:40:07

This week tackle the topic of what board games could do to break into the mainstream, is it just a publicity issue or are there other barriers involved. We also discuss how things like Dized (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dized-board-games-made-easy-app-application) could help tackle some of these issues. We also discuss our recent play of Arctic Scavengers and how we shamefully have been playing Star Realms wrong for the last 3 months! Finally we announce that we have joined the inside voices network, a network of excellent podcasts we are now proud to be a part of! Check them out at their website https://www.insidevoicesnetwork.com/. We are now going away for 2 weeks so the next full episode won't be until 24th September, in the mean time catch up with us on the social media platform of your choosing: twitter @boardgamesinbed, Instagram (boardgamesinbed) or facebook (search for board games in bed).  Episode 17 - Kickstarter | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:39:15

This weeks podcast is nothing to do with GenCon and everything to do with kickstarter! A topic many gamers are familiar with, with the exception of Kelly apparently! We discuss the ins and outs of how it works as well as a couple of projects we have backed, which include two arrivals this week - Tiny Epic Quest and Go Nuts for Donuts. We also discuss Great Western Trail, Burgle Bros with a glammed up Peterman, Blood Rage and Sagrada which we played at last weekends games day!
