Michael is the author of RELENTLESS COURAGE: Winning the Battle Against Frontline Trauma, along with Dr. Shauna Springer, Ph.D., they tackle the complexity of trauma within the law enforcement community, uncovering the unspoken barriers, and outline a path to healing. Michael Sugrue began his law enforcement career in the United States Air Force as a Security Forces Officer in 1998. Michael is a dedicated advocate for awareness, prevention, education, and training on Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) and First Responder Suicide Prevention. Michael talks in detail about the 2012 officer involved shooting that caused him PTSI and how this incident impacted his life.

Valerie uses her expertise and decades of EMS experience to mentor other women in the EMS industry as a blogger and podcaster, she started her EMS career in 1995 as a volunteer EMT and transitioned to paramedic in 1998. At that time, the ER was in chaos. Kelsay grew up in Alaska working on a fishing boat in the Bering Sea, as well as many other jobs before starting her nursing career. We talk about Alaska, her career, how the decision was made to call EMS, how EMS assisted, the notoriety, and what the hospital did after the phone call. Kelsay lives in Port Orchard and shares her home with my boyfriend Daniel, 7 cats, a very spoiled dog, a bunch of chickens and ducks, a rabbit, and an opossum. Episode 267 is Kelsay Irby. Michael has served in Alaska for over 30 years, and if you recall the show Northern Exposure, he has a similar path to Alaska that you will hear. Michael talks about his career, passion for EMS, and a few Dr. Marvin Wayne stories that are fun to hear (Dr. Wayne is my Medical Director). Episode 264 is about the company safeBVM. Co-Founders Haris Shekhani and Prathamesh Prabhudesai and Chief Revenue Officer Holly Stewart join me to discuss their company and their new airway product Sotair. Sotair is a flow limiting valve that limits the inspiratory flow. Drs. Shekhani and Prabhudesial, after finishing medical school, met at Georgia Tech. Both have a great interest in knowledge in biomedical engineering. A Master's project led them to create the airway device, and safeBVM was founded. Holly brings her 30-plus years as a Respiratory Therapist and medical device expertise to the team. We talk about their starts in the medical field, the creation process of safeBVM, and Sotair.
