Tony Gerdeman is joined by producer Shannon Somers as they discuss the world of Ohio State football. While it might seem like it has taken forever to get here, the game has snuck up on Tony. He does his best to take it in stride. Tony and Shannon talk about the Buckeye news of the day and how it pertains to the game against Indiana. They discuss the areas where the Hoosiers should be concerned, and whether there are any such areas for the Buckeyes. It is travel day for The Sons of Schmidt this week. Brandon and Mike check in on Ohio State’s fall camp, and then take a look beyond the Columbus city limits at the rest of the 2017 college football landscape this week. This is episode 5 of the second season of The Sons of Schmidt Podcast. To start the show, the guys take a look at the updates on the right guard starter and at who will be taking the first snaps at wide receiver. And they clarify that, as much as we are loving J.K. Dobbins this fall, who will be the starting running back for Ohio State. The SoS guys then spend the second segment looking at their predictions for the other Power 5 conference division and championship winners. They go west to east, and even manage to talk SEC football. Tony Gerdeman discusses Notre Dame's new rules for media members attending practice this year, which became a hot topic last week. Tony explains what Ohio State's policy is, and when it is and isn't more strict than Notre Dame's. Tony discusses the offensive line and linebackers. They were made available to the media this week, so he had some great information for the fans. Then there is a discussion about the J.K. Dobbins hype, which leads into talk of the Jabrill Peppers hype from last season. He then gives us the Buckeyes on his hype train so far this training camp -- hint there are four cars. Tony then answers questions from twitter and the forums.

And The Sons of Schmidt has episode 4 of their 2nd season here to help address and answer questions about this year’s team. You simply can not talk about the 2017 Buckeyes without talking about the splash and impact this year’s true freshmen are having in camp. It seems like J.K. Dobbins has been the topic of discussion everywhere, and we start this week off looking at his performance so far, along with some of the other big name freshmen, like Chase Young. Brandon and Mike get right to it…is it time to buy into the J.K. Dobbins hype? In the second segment of the show, the SoS guys review some of the headlines and sound bites we have gotten thanks to our wonderful editor, Tony Gerdeman, and from the Big Ten Network’s Bus Tour stop in Columbus. We’ve all heard it, was Greg Schiano telling the truth about this being the best defensive line he’s ever coached? What about the players that are being noticed by their teammates? There was one report that as many as 12 underclassmen could be leaving, and Brandon gives you the lowdown on if that is a real possibility. Then Mike and Brandon wrap up the show answering a couple questions from the listeners of the show, where they talk about the trap that could be opening with Indiana, any lingering effects from the dreadful performance in last season’s Fiesta Bowl, and where does Urban Meyer end his career on the list of All-Time Greatest Coaches.
