On the college football edition of the GSMC Football Podcast host Tom Dougherty discusses David Shaw's comments on the CFP Committee, talks recruiting, and power rankings. Stanford head coach David Shaw stated in an interview this week that he would like to see more attention paid to the course of a teams schedule. The comments were aimed at the CFP selection committee as he urged them to look at schools differently if they do not have bye week or play a Friday night road game. Executive Director of the CFP, Bill Hancock, reasured that all facets of a teams schedule are taken under consideration. Tom also looks at the recruiting update, as Georgia reeled in a few top ranked players this week. On the college football edition of the GSMC Football Podcast host Tom Dougherty discusses outlooks for teams and players, talks Nick Saban's extention, and makes predictions. Nick Saban signed a contract extention that is good through the 2025 season. Saban who is 66 once again becomes the highest paid coach in college football. He also has a decision to make a quaterback for this season. It is what some are calling the most interesting decision Saban has ever had to make in his career, and will ride on whether Tua Tagovailoa or Jalen Hurts "wins the team". It is an interesting strategy, but its one that could really work when it comes to the quarterback position. Who do the other offensive players have the most confidence in when it comes to pre-snap and post-snap. On the college football edition of the GSMC Football Podcast host Tom Dougherty recaps the BIG 10 Media Days that were held on Monday and Tuesday in Chicago. Coaches and select players from the BIG 10 schools were on hand to answer a bevy of questions from media outlets. Scott Frost was the bell of the ball seemingly as the newest and hottest head coach in the conference. He exuded confidence in his team and voiced his excitement and drive to make Nebraska a power in the BIG 10 once again. Jim Harbaugh also voiced the same drive and determination as he enters his fourth year at Michigan. While the first three were a bit underwhelming Harbaugh finally has a top tier QB. Both Ohio State and Alabama have QB competitions going on. Urban Meyer noted that Dewayne Haskins has the upper hand but anything can happen in camp. The SEC needed four days for their media availablility while the BIG 12 and BIG 10 take two days, and the PAC 12 just needs one. The BIG 10 and PAC 12 events will be held this week and Tom talks about what to expect from the PAC 12 this year. There are three very talented QBs in that conference with other looking to put their name on the map. New coaches will also be heard from. The SEC event in Birmingham was headlined by Nick Saban and the Alabama QB controversy. Saban continued his "We'll see" stance on the matter and asked for questions on different subjects. The ACC event in Charlotte saw UNC head coach Larry Fedora speak out on CTE, then to have his AD walk back the comments. Clemsom head coach Dabo Swinney was asked about his QB competition, he had a measured answer that ened with a wait and see attitude. The BIG 12 event was held in Frisco, TX and was headlined by Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley and Texas head coach Tom Herman. Herman had an interesting moment when asked about his roster. The situation at Florida State and the evolution of sports betting in the US are briefly discussed.
