The 2018 GEICO NHL All Star Skills Competition took place on Saturday night at Amalie Arena in Tampa. It was a fun evening for all involved, and it put the NHL’s skill and personality on display. The new Save Streak competition was a hit with the fans as Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury barely edged Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne to win the contest. Rinne was excited to have the goalies as the center of attention for once in the Skills Competition. Fleury’s music choice during his turn made headlines as he picked Frozen’s “Let it Go.” Other players like Los Angeles Kings forward Anze Kopitar enjoyed his time in the competition, making some difficult shots in the Accuracy Shooting contest. Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson made his way into the arena wearing a pirate hat as a nod to Tampa’s Gasparilla festival taking place alongside All Star weekend. Predators defenseman P.K. The show kicked off reviewing the weird and fast game the Predators had against the Lightning. Justin also talked about the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships this weekend. Next, Amanda Stein of the New Jersey Devils joined us to give us a full update on the team, the injury situation and why she's afraid of mascots. Goaltender Anders Lindback of the Milwaukee Admirals joined us to talk about being named an All Star, playing the role of mentor in the locker room and what's next for him. Glynne then shared a fun story of finding Paul Kariya, then Intern Ally asked and we answered Twitter questions about spreading hockey awareness and a potential trade target.

This episode was recorded on January 20th, 2017. The Snowpocalypse of 2018 has come and gone! The guys were able to get out of their driveways finally and get recording. It's a jam packed episode as the Preds bye week meant they played less games. So along with covering the games they take a look at the Central standings, the newly released "hypothetical names" for the Seattle franchise and what having Seattle in the NHL means for league alignment, the Vegas Golden Knights and their friends at the Army, and do a quick run down of the top players recently put on IR. Finally they put a spin on the Top 5 for the week and give the top person they would put in each position minus the goalie. So see, they see have FIVE in there! Get it?! On this morning edition of Southern Hostility, we discuss our favorite breakfast foods, three Preds defensemen have new contracts and we share what we would do with our NHL bye week. Cameron received a weird email that we read on air, plus we discuss D league hockey experiences, and talk about Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Because everyone else has voiced their opinions on it, we took a look at the game versus the Golden Knights and give our opinions on the William Carrier hit to Ryan Johansen. We also talked Juuse Saros. Next, Matthew DeFranks of the Sun Sentinel helped give us a breakdown of the Florida Panthers. We included discussing Aleksander Barkov, the awkward feeling against the Golden Knights with former coach and player and their community outreach with the Tampa Bay Lightning. We were then joined by Josh Kestner of the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers hockey team. Kestner is currently the goals leader in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and was just nominated for the Hobey Baker Award for the second year in a row. We talk UAH's trip to Alaska, closing out the regular season with four straight home series and what the future holds. The Nashville Predators fell to the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. It was the return of Ryan Ellis, who garnered 18:27 of ice time. Captain Roman Josi spoke on the game and the team's missed opportunities and how the Predators and Knights have similar games of speed. Head coach Peter Laviolette spoke on the game as a whole and Ryan Ellis' first game back.
