The OHSU Board of Directors approved a nearly three billion dollar budget for fiscal year 2018. The budget anticipates five percent revenue growth over last year, half what has been budgeted in past years. 15 million dollars is set aside to fund parking infrastructure. CORRECTION: The Senate health care bill was introduced, not passed, as was incorrectly stated in this episode. The United States Senate introduced their own version of a “repeal and replace” health care bill last week. Many of the concerns OHSU had with the house version remain with this bill. And a forum held at OHSU brought together business leaders to discuss gun violence as a public health issue. At an Awards Ceremony held last week, several groups and individuals were recognized for outstanding contributions to creating a climate of diversity, equity and inclusion at OHSU. I spoke with Amy Penkin from the Transgender Health Program and a fellow who was recognized for standing up when she encountered transphobia. And later, an event celebrating Ramadan was also a call for peace, solidarity and healing.
