Exercise Equals Weight Loss | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Let's Talk About Exercise Equals Weight Loss with Felice Gerwitz - Podcast #181 The question? Does exercise equal weight loss? Well, there is good news and there is bad news. Let’s start with the good. How good exercise if for you? Exercise has tremendous health both physical and mental health Benefits. Visit our special sponsor – Elephant Learning Show Notes: Exercise Equals Weight Loss * Exercise helps our mood * Brain cell growth * Controls diabetes * Lowers the risk for heart disease and cancer * Prevents against osteoporosis * Better endurance * Increase Strength * Exercised does have a correlation to weight, critical to keeping off A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association followed the exercise This research supports the findings of the National Weight Control Registry, which reports that 90 percent of people who have successfully lost weight and kept it off exercise on average for an hour a day. Here is what the experts I’ve read have to say about exercising. * Look at what you are eating – make a list and cut down on the carbs – removing it would be best – but if you can’t cut way down. It will help you burn fat if you are not constantly replenishing that fat. Now I say this to you, as we are to meet my inlaws at a burger shake place for dinner – the only good news in that is I will order an unsweet ice tea and split the burger with my SIL Janice who is visiting. So – while this sounds like I’m failing in my efforts to lose weight I am reporting I’m doing one cardinal rule of dieting and that is to eat less of everything. I figure half a burger is less. * Exercise regularly but if you can do intensity for a short time and then decrease and then increase. There is something about getting your heart to speed up while giving it time to rest is a good thing. It has fat burning benefits – yay! We all want that right. * Understand that the reason we are exercising – I’m saying we in the hopes you are doing this with me – is that we are maintaining any gains we make – it may not transform us to two sizes smaller but it will help keep off any weight we’ve shed.  Loving The UnLovable | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:02

Loving the Unlovable with Felice Gerwitz Podcast #180 From time to time we've all struggled with loving the unlovable. At times if we admit it, I'm sure we've been unlovable to someone else. In this podcast we discover ways to love when there is no reason to love and the best ways to serve others and still be true to self. The most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feeling of being unloved – Mother Teresa… Visit our special sponsor – Elephant Learning                     Show Notes: Loving The Unlovable In life we all have challenges but possibly one of the most difficult is those who are unlovable –This could be: * Family members * Extended family * Those who are in your circle of friends * Outside influences More Quotes By Mother Teresa: * "Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do…but how much love we put in that action" Mother Teresa * "Whatever you do for your family, for your children, for your husband, for your wife, you do for God. All we do, our prayers, our work, our suffering, is for Jesus." Mother Teresa * "People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may acuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It is never between you and them anyway." Mother Teresa of Calcutta A person who you deme to be unlovable can control your attitude and mood – or you can pray for the grace to deal with the situation. LOVE – love tends to be what other people do for you – instead of Christian love which is emphasized by turning the other cheek or Matthew 25:40 – Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.. Nutshell Solutions For Loving The Unlovable – * Treat others as Jesus would * Remember: We are all unlovable at times –  Remember to balance tough love with compassion. * The more you love GOD the more grace He will pour out into the situation. Romans 8:38-39 * Serve others when there is no way they can repay you… Matthew 25:40 * Expect nothing in return – Matthew 5:46 – If you love only those who love you – what reward is there for that… * Sometimes the ones hardest to love are those who need our love the most.  Elephant Learning Math Matters | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:59

Math Matters with Elephant Learning Early Learning Learning begins at an early age. We are bombarded with early learning programs for our children and as homeschool parents, we are rightly very wary of the predicted results. In college I majored in Education and "Early Childhood Education" was an extra certification to my degree. I loved it! As a student, I had the opportunity to work with preschoolers and play games to gauge their understanding as well as propel their love of learning. We would show them two beakers of water, one a tall beaker and the other a squatty one. Then we had two pitchers of water with equal amounts that they watched us pour in the beakers. We'd then point and ask them which beaker held more water. The results were telling of their developmental age. The taller beaker was always considered the one with "more" water. Fast forward to homeschooling my own children and my cupboards were overflowing with early learning games, many that my grandchildren now use. I love the idea of teaching young children to learn through play. So, when I met the CEO of Elephant Learning, I looked at the program and their claims with a very critical eye. The credentials of the creator of the software was impeccable, the studies based on a grant to the University of Denver impressive yet, I was still uncertain. Until I discussed the ideas behind the CEO's purpose, and that was to bring math education to young children in order to jump start their learning not only in math, but across the board in all subjects. Okay. Now I was interested. Please listen to my interview with Dr. Nargath as he explains his view on early math learning, his software program, Elephant Learning based in part on his business partner's research based algorithms and his donations of one program for each one sold to a needy family. See what you think about this math program for your young children. Disclosure policy

Math Equals Success – Elephant Learning | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Let's Talk About How Math Equals Success  - Felice Gerwitz interviews Dr. Aditya Nagrath Podcast # 173 As a long time homeschool mom, it takes a very special program to impress me - and this one impressed me enough to interview the CEO of Elephant Learning, Dr. Nagrath, who holds a PhD in Math and Computer Science. Ater realizing that early math learning is not only effective it can make the difference in the outcomes of a child's improvement in education across the board! Visit our sponsor Elephant Learning's special offer for our listeners! ElephantLearning.com/mediaangels for a free 14-day trial with no credit card necessary. Also, sign up to receive the 50% off offer. Did you know that math is the foundation for all learning?   I’m so excited to bring you a very special show – special because it isn’t often that the mainstream is supportive of the homeschool community and my guest and I crossed paths through a mutual friend some time ago, and when he shared his vision I was intrigued not only by his passion – but his excitement about the homeschool community. Some of you may not remember that my degree is in Education – with a certification in Early Childhood Learning and Specific Learning Disabilities – as it was termed then, however – I’m extremely interested as a homeschool parent in allowing our children free time to think, to explore and to learn – I’m also a big advocate of early childhood learning. My guest and his team care enough about learning and homeschooling that they’ve agreed to sponsor  – the Ultimate Homeschool Radio Network, and share a very special offer specifically for our listeners. Our sponsor is ElephantLearning – and my special guest is Dr. Aditya Nagrath who is the CEO and PhD in Math and Computer science – welcome, Dr. Nagrath -  1. What made you decide to create an early learning program? * Alvaro Meeting * Flashback to childhood, mother * Expecting a child * How do I pass this gift to my child and the world? A legacy is important to me as a homeschool parent – we want out children to gain from their experiences and education is essential to enter the job market competitively. I’m impressed that you used your time and talents for this purpose – but even further… 2. You and Alvaro spoke in great detail about early learning and education – how does this information impact those who homeschool—as well as the parents in general? * Preschool math scores predict entire life * Preschool -> 5th grade, it was not just math but English, social studies, reading scores … math scores predicted reading scores better than math scores. * Another study showed that 8th-grade math scores predict High School Drop out rates * 2 out of 3 high school students are not proficient at math * Many of the students that go to college and try to go into STEM end up changing majors. * Can you imagine, we tell our children right now that they can grow up to be anything they want… but 4 out 5 students enter kindergarten ALREADY BEHIND! * and statistically speaking, the students that are behind tend to stay behind unless there is an intervention. So you are telling me that children even if they are homeschooled children can enter kindergarten prepared, yet can fall behind? How does that happen? * Did you know that 50% of 1st and 2nd graders have math anxiety? Felice -My prediction would be that many school children today have math anxiety because of common core and homeschoolers may or may not fall into ...

No Time For Mom | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 26:58

Let's Talk About You! No Time For Mom with Felice Gerwitz We are busy. We homeschool, we run errands, manage a household, take care of kids and of course, that is only what we do by day! Our list can grow when we add volunteering, field trips, caring for elderly parents and more. In this podcast Felice shares some simple truths with a plan of getting your time back and making the "no time for mom," a myth! Thanks to our Our special sponsor Second Harvest Curriculum - visit them here: Save Money! Buy or sell books to another well trusted homeschool family! * Second Harvest Curriculum website * Second Harvest Blog * Second Harvest Curriculum Facebook * Second Harvest Curriculum Twitter * Second Harvest Curriculum Pinterest Show Notes: No Time For Mom  --  I realized some very important truths… * If we don’t fill up our tank it will run dry, stall and come to a screeching halt. * The old saying, “If mama ain’t happy then no body is happy – is true.” * While in the perfect world it is nice and wonderful and awesome to have a support team to keep us going such as a spouse, extended family members and good friends—there is only one person who will never let us down. * We often make our lives much more complicated than they need to be – * Having it all together is a myth * Guilt runs in the veins of every person I know when it comes to taking time our for ourselves. Homeschool moms typically are not selfish beings – if they were, they more than likely would not homeschool… and that my friends is the underlying issue here … Steps To Making And Finding Time - Dispelling the No Time For Mom Myths! * Mom time means no kids, no spouse, only you and a few minutes of silence. * Time to Listen to God - I'm beginning a new podcast – A Few Minutes With God – It has helped me focus on what is truly important. IF you don’t stop and listen how can you hear God? What is he telling you? Start with one minute a day – just one …and slowly add a minute each day until you reach 5-10-15 or whatever your schedule allows. IF you do this one thing (and I will go into more detail in the first series of podcasts on the Ultimate Christian Podcast Network - ) you will be on your way to a happier and more fulfilled person. This is what I was talking about when I said we needed to be filled up – only God can fill up our tank to overflowing with love and joy so that we can share that love with our family. * Stop the internal guilt. Guilt is not from God and if you feel that you should not have any time to yourself, to be pampered (and that looks different for each of us) – then just take hold of that thought and discard it. I felt guilty for years, I felt that if I took any time for myself that it was taking time away from my family, so I began with little steps. And that is what I’m going to share with you: * First I prayed everytime I began to feel guilt – “I am a child of God, God has made me in His image and Likeness and to be a wonderful spouse, mother and caregiver to my children and my husband – God will provide the grace and the strength for me to succeed.” This prayer may look different for you – but take time right now and promise me that you will...
