Random Pull 002: Metallica — Ride The Lightning | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 19:03

Ride the Lightning was a pivotal album for many teens in the mid 80s. It captures a more refined sound than Metallica's previous album, Kill Em All, while still unleashing the speed and power that thrash metal was known for at the time. On this episode, MV writer Alan Miller, Lee Matthew of the band Sleeper Agent and Matt Pfefforkorn of Mellow Matt's Music and More discuss the impact it had on them and the overall music culture of the time.

The second half has me calling an old friend, Grimes, who's just about the biggest Kanye West fan on the planet. We talk about the new Kanye tracks, why Paul McCartney is actually a mummy in disguise and an upcoming Kanye West re-listen project we'll be taking on here at MV.  Random Pull 001: Thin Lizzy — Rocker | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 10:55

I'll try not to repeat myself too much, considering I explain this new addition to The Modern Vinyl Podcast in the intro, but long story short: We're taking the previously print Random Pull feature (which we also bust out in the full podcast episodes sometimes) and we'll be producing some mini episodes in that vein. Our Random Pull crew — MV writer Alan Miller, Lee Matthew of the band Sleeper Agent and Matt Pfefforkorn of Mellow Matt's Music and More — will be your regulars, with that latter record store serving as the recording location. Expect a whole bunch more of these. I love the idea of some shorter segments to help break up the wait between our primary MV episodes. And we welcome the Random Pull crew to the podcast team.

MV Podcast, Washed Up Emo going live | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 7:21

Big news! This March, The Modern Vinyl Podcast is going live and is teaming up with the Washed Up Emo Podcast for a double bill at Brooklyn's Union Hall. We'll both be doing our shows with some cool live twists, the further details of which we'll be unveiling as we get closer to the show. I can tell you that we're saving a great return feature for our half and Washed Up (a great podcast you need to listen to by the way) is cooking up some really cool ideas. Check out all the details below: TICKETS Sunday, March 8th Doors: 3 p.m./Show: 3:30 p.m. Union Hall/Brooklyn, NY $5 21 and over (sorry, it's a bar) We're looking for not only our podcast listeners, but regular MV readers to show up. We'd love to use this as a first official meet-up. I'm sure we'll have some form of merch and some other fun planned. Also of note...the three hosts of the MV podcast are looking to do maybe 1 or even 2 more live shows while we're in the area. If you listen to the podcast, live in the area and want to host a live recording on March 7th/9th, let us know (modernvinylnews@gmail.com). We'll prepare a whole new show for you, some friends, your parents or even your night's date (maybe all ages for one of these?). We need a table and outlet. That's pretty much it.  The MV Podcast 035: Millennium’s Got Layers (MV Mailbox Edition) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:43

Subscribe on iTunes The Modern Vinyl Podcast has returned with Episode 35, a mini episode dealing with reader questions. We hit on the correct way to ship vinyl, what ridiculous Record Store Day releases we think will happen and how we all met in the first place. At the end, we drop some major (fake) bombshells regarding some upcoming albums. Note: We start going a little robotic right before I cut to that elevator music. I seemed to have figured out the problem, so it shouldn't be an issue going forward. Want to sponsor an episode? Subscribe on iTunes The Modern Vinyl Podcast is back and this time our centerpiece is a deep dive into the new album from D'Angelo & The Vanguard. Our Side B topic introduces a new feature, called Exgirlfriend FM, and we hope to continue it in the future. We've also got three great tracks to share with you (will be getting back into the 3 track tradition). Note: We start going a little robotic during the 16-18 minute mark. That clears up and does not appear at anytime afterwards. We apologize for the audio issue. Sponsor Enjoy The Ride Records, who's centerpiece release at this time is the first ever vinyl pressing of Cute Is What We Aim For's The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch, sponsors this episode of the MV Podcast.
