The MV Podcast 049: Chris Brown Returns (Record Store Day 2015) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:34

Note: My end sounds like junk during the Chris Brown interview. It was simply an oversight in the recording process. It was fixed for the next episode. My apologies.  For the newest episode of The Modern Vinyl Podcast I spoke with Chris Brown of Bull Moose, the northeastern record store chain. In the 70+ minute conversation we attempted to cover many of the issues record collectors bring up about Record Store Day, including major label activity, how many releases is "too many" and who dictates the prices on those items. We also play music from a Jetsam-Flotsam outfit, Living Room, off their recent full length album, Moonchaser. You can pick it up, here.  The MV Podcast: Tour of NYC (Bonus Episode) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:52

Subscribe on iTunes We've got one more NYC-based episode to share with everyone. This time, we were out for some food and decided, what the hell, we're talking about music anyways, let's just record something. We talk about, of course, blink-182 and Brand New, our experience watching Jeff Rosenstock in Manhattan and bands that hit the major label wall. Warning, we're eating during this thing (at a couple different spots, hence the title), and just recording it off a phone. So it won't be perfect sound quality. Coming soon, we have the second entry of our Revisiting Kanye series this weekend. We'll also be talking the new Kendrick Lamar album. After that we'll be recording a third Mixtape episode. Timeline 3:00, Episode begins 3:30, Talk about the early days of our vinyl and first purchases 7:15, First experiences with Fight Off Your Demons 8:56, Who could cover Blink and Brand New albums 15:06, Our Jeff Rosenstock experience 20:20, Our second food stop 24:00, Bands that hit the major label wall 33:00, Changing label landscape Note: Taking Back Sunday’s last album with Warner was actually the self-titled.  The MV Podcast 047: Live At Union Hall | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 57:41

Subscribe on iTunes Photo by Meghin Moore Finally, we can unveil our Live At Union Hall episode and as I say in the intro, we couldn't be more thrilled with how it came out. Thanks to everyone who attended and to those who couldn't make it, we held our second annual Record Store Day Award Show (technically, the first award show was for Black Friday, last November). We hit on the "Biggest Plant Jammer" and "Most Likely To End Up In The Dollar Bin," while eventually getting to more positive areas with "Worthy Of A Flip" and "RSD Fresh." We then finish up the episode with a round of Pick Your Poison. A big thanks to The Native Sound, Singles Club, Mondo, Broken Circles Records and our guests, Zack Zarrillo and Thomas Nassiff. Also, thanks to Washed Up Emo for recorded an awesome second half of the show. You can hear their episode, here. We'll have one more NYC podcast for you, recorded in some interesting settings. Stick around for that. Note: As with most live podcasts, the sound quality is going to take a slight hit. It's still very listenable (and I hope entertaining). Also, we talk about the 6x7" upcoming box-set from Fall Out Boy a bunch. It was not on the official RSD list, but retailers like Bull Moose are saying it still will be available on that date.
