Is there any way to the world they left behind, or will they be stranded in the distant past? Will Jeffery be able to defeat the cave men using his superior intellect, or technology? Can Mark keep up his job of acting, and come into the money he stands to gain from the marriage? Guilt, nerves, a botched cover up, or will something else bring certain justice? Despite being guarded, no one knows how the murders have taken place. Lamonte plans on playing security guard, but doesn’t want Margot to join him. Will they be in danger when the cat comes back? Later, the Shadow claims to know how it was done, and implies he has a personal stake in the matter. Hang on for spooky events to unfold as the Shadow springs into action to rescue Margot, and trap the killer who is behind the crimes.

Features Peter Lorre. Peter plays Herman, a professer of biology who is digging in the basement to prepare his devils garden, a type of orchid garden. His wife is upset over the whole idea. She is a bit of a nag who pushes him along in her plans, and to get ready for their trip to America. The henpecked and slightly absent minded man has had enough. He flirts with a sales gal over some books he ordered on orchids. The man begins to undermine his wife’s plans to make their trip, and be back for Christmas. As he pursues his love interest on the side, he puts into motion events that cause his wife’s death. A few friends stop in for a last minute farewell. He has his own plan to kill his wife, and drop her in the hole in the basement. He makes the sea voyage, claiming his wife is too ill to leave the cabin. Once in New York, he meets his new love interest, they marry and travel as man and wife. Now with no plans to ever return, he enjoys his life and freedom to live on the spur of the moment. His freedom comes to an end as his dead wife’s tightly woven plans comes to haunt him. He gets a telegram, as though from the grave that proves that he will indeed be back home for Christmas.

A secretary at a financial investment firm isn’t content with earning money the honest way. With the help of a shady friend, they plan on making their own enhancements to the tune of a $45k profit for themselves. They’ve cooked up the books, and stashed away a pile of bonds, but a discrepancy of a penny is all it takes for her boss to want to go over the figures again. When she tries to get the bonds back from Yancey to cover her tracks, he suddenly thinks that she’s trying to cut him out of the deal. Millie has also managed to get on the wrong side of her boss, and bad luck begins to plague her every step. Will she be able to beat the clock and have the missing bonds back in time? Is Yancey leaving town on her, and taking the bonds with him? He promises to give them back, but only after she has been audited. In the heat of an argument Millie kills Yancey, but now she has to figure out where he hid the bonds, before someone rushes in to see what the shots were about and get caught with the smoking gun. A twist ending waits when detective Kelley listens to her tell the whole story. If you pay attention to the air date of this episode, you’ll guess what it is that could have bought Millie some time. All she had to do was wait for the bonds, and all would have been well.

Refusing to leave his house, the doctor can’t help his aging patient, played by Ernest Chapel, the way he would like. The wound received from the old, black powder gun stands to cause infections. Does someone need help? What would happen if the ghost came out? More ghostly encounters reveal footsteps in the snow outside. then the nearly unintelligible voices become more real. What message do they have for Ernest? Is he just dreaming? The ghost comes every night. With the lure of the ghostly visitor,, can Ernest stay, or should he go? What would that mean for him, no matter how he decides?

Tony’s high spirits come crashing down when he gets home, and learns there could be a ghostly man pursuing him. Soon every cop in town is on the hunt for Tony after he guns one of them down in his paranoia. Is there any place to hide? The lure of diving for more treasure sends Tony back out to sea, but new troubles are in his future. Will he make a dangerous dive, in rough seas? Is any amount of cash worth the risk to his life?

He has been overworked, and stressed, when a man introduces himself offering help. He’s the owner of the talking bird, but who is he? What’s the deal with that bird? He keeps saying the tag line to the radio show, Lights Out, “It’s later than you think.” OK, and Edgar Allen Poe. The odd visitor only adds mystery to the confused doctors life. People he refers to are soon dead. Is the stranger the murder? If you’ve listened close, you’ll have figured out that he is death. But, how could the doctor had beheaded him? Will it help keep doom from his own fate? That’s the bitg question that will be answered in the suspenseful, and horrifying conclusion.

Retracing the steps of their honeymoon, John and his bride revisit a quaint old curio shop in Chinatown. A after 20 years it looks virtually unchanged. What should they pick up as a souvenir? A rose crystal bell seems to be the thing, and the warning of a ccurse it has on it only drives the sale. To prevent evil, the old shop owner had removed the clapper of the bell, so only a flat tone ever comes from it. Will the bride fix it up to make the bell ring properly? How bad can that little old evil curse be? As John returns to his practice as a brain surgeon, death seems to mysteriously be near when the bell rings. Does the bell really have the power to determine who is cured, or comes back from a near death situation? How will the evil in the bell be appeased, to stop its reign of the deadly curse?

Arnold is a man who is contemplating leaving his wife. He helps around the house, and responds to his talkative wife’s every request. Evelyn is more heartbroken over her broken dishes than paying attention to the needs of her husband. Evelyn is a nice person, but it’s a classic situation of a couple who has one person having their love tank filled, while the other is desperately empty. It’s enough to find Arnold planning a murder. Has the perfect crime been committed? Will Arnold be able to play it off as the distraught husband, and have a perfect alibi? The waiting game that Arnold has put himself through is a recipe for suspense. The clock ticks, the pressure grows, the emotional strain is pushed to the brink. Nerves frazzle, paranoia sets in. All Arnold has to do is keep his cool until the body is found. Has someone discovered Arnold’s murderous plan? Justice comes. Will Arnold tip his hand? Will a more explosive twist ending bring about a more satisfying end to our killer? Features Elliot Lewis as Arnold.

A young couple spend the day together, The last thing they want to hear is news from the war as they visit the observation platform of a sky scraper. From their vantage point, distant from the city below it’s easy to imagine a world without all the grit and grime of life. The newlyweds make observations as they see the sights. Something strange seems to be brewing in the clouds as they talk about their future, and what it may hold. Time comes to descend back to street level, and reality. Suddenly they seem to be the only people in the world. Technology seems to be out of service. Unease sets in, and maybe a little worry. What does this mean? What is going on? With all the horrors of war, might this be one answer of how God might intervene?

Our gruesomely punny host presents a newspaper story. A story of a man, the doll of a dead girl, and the devil. How did such a scene come to be? The man, a reporter for the newspaper goes into flashback sequence to fill in the details. Ten days earlier, the reporter visited the morgue about a story of a young woman who was murdered, and was brought in still clutching a doll. The cops don’t think it’s a murder, but the editor lets the reporter investigate. Questions explode in the reporters head. If only the doll could talk. Suddenly, it does. Obsessed with the case, and on a long walk to clear his head, he meets the man who made the doll. Secrets are revealed, but are they secrets that should be left alone? What connection does this dollmaker and painter have with the girl, and with the devil? The reporter thinks the devil in question is more natural than supernatural, and has a trap to spring. . He uses himself for the bait, but has he bitten off more than he can chew? Well, that’s where the story began. The twist ending will reveal the answers, but I won’t.

Sam is a gangster who lays it on the line for a gal who is dating his brother. He wants her to leave him alone and break it off. Will Irene take his offer and train ticket, and leave town for work elsewhere? What does Joe have to say on the matter? Joe doesn’t want to cross his brother, and it takes a confrontation at gunpoint with Irene to begin to move him to run away with her. In writing a note to Sam to say that he’s leaving, his cowardice kicks in. An argument ensues, a gunshot is fired in the heat of the moment. An accident maybe? With the note conveniently also sounding like a suicide note, Irene sets the scene to point that way for the cops. Nerves get to Irene, especially when she has a house guest. How much did the woman learn? Was she really so sound asleep when Irene came and went on her murderous meeting with Joe? A phone call from Sam makes it clear that her handiwork was indeed enough to fool the cops, but not him. Sam’s death threats have Irene on the run, and she’s paranoid at the thought that someone is following her to do her in. Desperation sets in when her house guest has managed to find her, and is on the same train. Gunplay is unavoidable to keep secrets quiet. But will it really? The Whistler holds other plans for a more complete justice. Note: There’s a cameo from Jack Benny at the beginning as the Fiddler. It’s due to an episode where the Whistler appeared on his show a few days earlier.
