Sisyphus Speaks 214: Guess who pioneered chemoprevention through diet? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Naturopaths and "functional medicine" practitioners would have the public believe that they are the true experts on nutrition and health. Even though their nutritional advice contains a large serving of hooey and a big helping of dietary supplements, which they are happy to sell to patients.

Sisyphus Speaks 213: Water Wet. Fire Hot. TV Doctors Unreliable. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

I guess the BMJ is legit when it published Televised medical talk shows—what they recommend and the evidence to support their recommendations: a prospective observational study. In an act of admirable courage they Prospectively recorded all episodes of The Doctors from 11 January to 1 May 2013 (79 episodes) and The Dr. Oz Show from 7 January to 1 May 2013 (78 episodes).

Sisyphus Speaks 210: Learned helplessness. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

I think of learned helplessness every time I see someone abusing an animal by jabbing it with useless needles aka acupuncture. I know it is projection, but every time I see pictures of animals getting acupuncture, I see a depressed animal with learned helplessness.

Sisyphus Speaks 209: Babies and Bathwater. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

He concluded with the usual chestnut about not throwing out the baby with the bath water. Me? When it comes to pseudo-medicine I would throw out the baby, the bath water, the tub, the soap, the shampoo, the washcloth and the towel.

Sisyphus Speaks 208. Sisyphus Speaks pleased to report that its Report displeases Maryland naturopaths. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

One thing we decided to do is to keep tabs on state bills which either give licenses to practitioners of pseudo-medicine or seek to alter their scope of practice, usually for the worse by expanding it. Even if SFSBM didn't have the resources to hire lobbyists to fight these bills, our readers can contact their legislators and give them a good dose of scientific reality. But we wanted to do more.  Sisyphus Speaks 203: The Oceans Have Syphilis?!? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

British homeopath Grace DaSilva-Hill wants to cure the oceans by putting their nostrums into the ocean directly, by way of a river or even flushing it down the toilet. Or even speak the name of the nostrum to a glass a water before flushing. And what does the ocean have? Syphilis I suppose, as like heals like in the homeopathic delusion and she is suggesting using Leuticum, a nosode of syphilis.
