EP47 - Duck Shooting and reloading with Mike Felton | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:33:00

Recorded from a MaiMai somwhere in the king country Tune in to find out mikes thoughts on Duck Shooting and Reloading.   Being born in Rural King Country,MIke grew up in the 70's around the Kuratau region. At a very young age he was introduced to the pursuits of Fishing and Hunting, both of which he is still mad keen on. Now in his early 40's (he says) he owns his own business and started Reloading as favours for mates, but as the word soon grew about the results, especially with 12g Steel ammo, He has seen a steady increase in reloading work and would love nothing more than to make it a full time profession. His wife says he is a perfectionist with all things related to Hunting, and to Mike thats how it should be. No half arsed antics can be tolerated when it comes to the round coming out the muzzle. His favourite Rifle is a Tikka .243 s/s supressed, even though he still takes  his Grand Fathers Marlin .308Win Lever action out for walks every now and then. His 12g is the Berretta A400 Xplore action. When using his own Steel loads the recoil is like shooting Trap ammo.     http://www.feltonreloading.co.nz Ph:027 268 2260

The Firearms Safety Code: 1. Treat every firearm as loaded Check every firearm yourself. Pass or accept only an open or unloaded firearm.          2. Always point firearms in a safe direction Loaded or unloaded, always point the muzzle in a safe direction. 3. Load a firearm only when ready to fire Load the magazine only when you reach your shooting area. Load the chamber only when ready to shoot. Completely unload before leaving the shooting area. 4. Identify your target beyond all doubt Movement, colour, sound and shape can all deceive you. Assume colour, shape, sound, and shape to be human until proven otherwise. 5. Check your firing zone THINK:  What may happen if you miss your target?  What might you hit between you and the target or beyond? Do not fire when you know others are in your firing zone. 6. Store firearms and ammunition safely When not in use, lock away the bolt, firearm and ammunition separately. Never leave firearms in a vehicle that is unattended. 7.  EP35 - Interview with Greig Caigou about the book The Heart of Hunting | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:29:00

This week Stephen has to make good with Wendys fast food (long story) and an interview with Greig Caigou about the book The Heart of Hunting About wildness and hunting in New Zealand By Greig Caigou and Matt Winter The Heart of Hunting sets out to capture the essence of the hunting experience in New Zealand, by reflecting not only on hunting itself, but on the experience of wilderness that is so key to this cherished activity. The writer, Greig Caigou, combines storytelling and meditations on many aspects of hunting, all of which is based on the premise that wildlife is truly understood, and often deeply appreciated, through the eye of a hunter. Integral to the book are the wonderful wildlife photographs of Matt Winter, whose motivation is always to celebrate wild animals in their natural environments.   www.craigpotton.co.nz/store/the-heart-of-hunting

EP34 - Interview with Bill from Disabled Hunting NZ Charitable Trust | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:25:00

This weeks interview is with Bill Davis from DHNZCT he tells us how they assist disabled men and women, who had in the past or now have the desire to hunt both small and large game or to fish lake, sea or river by providing the tools and locations to find the hunter inside. It is hoped that by trying a challenging outdoor experience like hunting/fishing that those with spinal injuries might either find a sport they can experience from a new level or go on to find other outlets equally challenging. The trusts hope is it will give an insight into finding a reason to live their new life with as much energy and joy as before their spinal injury. While it is true that hunting for the disabled will be a different experience than for the able bodied it will none the less be a unique experience. Your hunting guide will take you to remote locations where only disabled hunters can access; this gives the hunter as good a chance as an able bodied hunter of securing some game   See http://www.disabledhunting.org for more info
