Marama Fox and Stephen talk about how The Treaty of Waitangi applies to hunters, and her thoughs on race relations. Marama is an experienced educational leader, who has taught at kohanga reo, kura kaupapa Maori, wharekura, public secondary schooling, and more recently as an advisor in the Ministry of Education. Throughout her career she has developed a flair in project management; in critical thinking, in relationship management; communication; leadership and strategic analysis – all transferable skills for the parliamentary arena. We are very excited about the quality representation she will offer for Ikaroa Rawhiti. Over the last few years her role in promoting Ka Hikitia, and Tataiako has continued to motivate her to look closely at the concept of transformation- of Maori succeeding as Maori. Marama is a proud mama of nine children and Whanau Ora has always resonated with her whanau, as a model for breeding success. Marama wants to dedicate the best years of her career to truly embedding Whanau Ora into the national psyche – and Ikaroa Rawhiti is the ideal environment to place her energy.

In Part 2 Cam and Stephen Talk about the Central North Island Sika Foundation Whether you hunt for meat, trophy or both, there is no denying that Sika present the hunter with challenges and interactions like no other deer species. Their vocal and inquisitive nature, combined with their ability to learn quickly from mistakes and adapt to hunting pressure makes them one of our most exciting and addictive big game animals to hunt. It is these traits that make the Sika one of New Zealand’s iconic hunting resources. To help facilitate a process of engagement with the Department of Conservation (DOC) and the Game Animal Council (GAC), the Central North Island Sika Foundation was formed. The Foundation has as its vision: ” Healthy Sika thriving in sustainable forests and grasslands, managed by stakeholders as a valued hunting resource” http://sikafoundation.co.nz/

We talk to Paul L Clark fom NZ Ammo and The New Zealand Council of Licensed Firearm’s Owners. We also touch on fire arms history is NZ. Paul trained as an apprentice tool & die maker with the view to becoming a gunsmith. However, because of the poor income in this field, he decided not to go into this industry. Instead, he travelled extensively overseas. On his return to New Zealand he spent four years with the Forest Service as a professional wild animal control hunter, then went into sales, to gain experience in this field before setting up his own business, (New Zealand Ammunition Co Ltd), in 1983. Paul continues to be a keen hunter and was an Executive Member of the New Zealand Deerstalker’s Association. Paul is a Foundation Member of ‘COLFO’ (The New Zealand Council of Licensed Firearm’s Owners’) - a group set up to represent the collective interests of New Zealand firearms owners in maintaining a sensible balance of safeguards for the community while ensuring the responsible use of licensed firearms.
